Lifted from the comments, and further to this, more Mao-ling loveliness.
As someone quipped on Twitter,
If you’re comfortable screaming in someone’s face, for any reason, it means you haven’t been hit in the mouth enough.
Which sounds about right.
And that’s the thing about the kind of tribal, collectivist psychology we’re seeing – there’s no interest in, and an overt denial of, personal responsibility. In the eyes of those possessed, people – at least white ones – are merely types. The cells of some identitarian organism. Something to poke and abuse. There’s no reciprocity, at all, and no regard for personal boundaries, except as something to violate, repeatedly and gleefully. It’s a game of domination and quite literally dehumanising.
Also, sealing doors with concrete and trying to burn people alive.
For “social justice,” no doubt.
People carrying Molotov’s need to be treated like active shooters. Setting people ablaze needs to be rigorously disincentivized.
Well, I suppose the question is, where’s the boundary, the cut-off point?
If you’re someone who, as part of a mob, indulges in recreational sociopathy – say, menacing random diners and putting them in fear of their safety – because you can – then how far is too far? If you disdain reciprocity and have reduced other people to prey, mere objects to abuse and humiliate at length – because you’re high on malice – then it seems to me there’s no obvious safety valve, as it were. At what point does such behaviour become improper for the person revelling in it, and indulging in it repeatedly?
I mean, if your idea of a good time is harassing random restaurant customers and scaring their children, or smashing the windows of people you know nothing about, or obstructing ambulances and giving paramedics the finger, or throwing paint on lone, elderly women – again, because you can – then where’s the upper limit of your dysfunction? Should the rest of us just assume you won’t go any further? Because, frankly, that seems unwise.
Should the rest of us just assume you won’t go any further? Because, frankly, that seems unwise.
While we can expect more of such behavior in the face of a Trump re-election, I believe it will be worse if Biden wins as they will know, there is no authority that will come and stop them. How far did the little boys go in “Lord of the Flies?”
I am lucky. My husband and I saw this coming and moved nine years ago from California to East Tennessee. There is safety – and armed neighbors – here.
How far did the little boys go in “Lord of the Flies?”
Weellll, in reality, they didn’t.
Weellll, in reality, they didn’t.
Are these traditionally raised and classically educated school boys we are dealing with now, Hal, or do you agree that you are actively missing the point?
Are these traditionally raised and classically educated school boys we are dealing with now . . . . . .
Siiiiiiggggggggghhhhhhhhh, where as you are quite aware, the idiots under discussion are not the only ones out there, therefore, yes, child, . . . you agree that you are actively missing the point.
As Noted—-At least by the rest of us, apparently rather than you . . . .
Hal, no one is saying that anytime boys are left without authority, it’ll descend into anarchy and violence. That the group on the Pacific island you mentioned didn’t is, as Squires correctly pointed out, a credit to their upbringing and education. But what on earth does that have to do with people such as the rioters in Portland and Seattle and Kenosha and so forth, who have instead been – as David calls it – “severely educated”?
Hal, in Hal’s view, is never wrong. May as well argue with a cat.
Siiiiiiggggggggghhhhhhhhh
How sweet, Hal channels his inner 12-year-old girl. “Dear Diary, what’s the html for an ‘i’ dotted with a heart.”
“It’s just crazy how when you obey the law and you’re not a criminal, you’ll be fine.”

Reminds me of an awkward Happy Hour conversation with a black co-worker several years ago. He asserted that I just “couldn’t understand” his perspective on fear of police, since I wasn’t hassled regularly for “driving while black” and such. I asked if he’d ever been pulled over or hassled while wearing his regular work garb (golf shirt and khakis), or if this tended to happen when he was running around with his old buddies in their streetwear.
Turns out that he’d never been hassled while in business casual attire.
I encouraged him to do some multivariate analysis to determine the correlation of various factors of behavior and appearance to interactions with law enforcement, and to let me know where skin color ranked in relation to other factors. He encouraged me to perform anatomically challenging sexual acts upon my own person.
We remain friends.
…as they will know there is no authority that will come and stop them.
Perhaps no State authority, but as you observe in the conclusion of your comment, there remain some personal authorities that can put a stop to their playful shenanigans. Even here in Progressive Minnesota, 1 in 20 of us have carry permits. I was surprised, in getting to know my neighbors over weeks of front-yard cocktails, that four of them are retired military. (Two Army, one Air Force, one Marine. The trash-talking is relentless, mean-spirited, and hilarious!)
I would almost feel bad for the mob who came to burn down our block. Almost.
Turns out that he’d never been hassled while in business casual attire.
Look, just like the old canard about Political Correctness being “just good manners”, this whole BS is just the latest paint job on the global left’s constant quest for more power. People don’t need to riot over police reform (since actual sensible reform is widely supported), and rioting over Guardian-level offenses like too-few brown mascara options or being pulled over more than your white friends is outlandish even to the average normie. We’ve seen perhaps the most moronic logic in history employed to bridge the gap between these “micro-aggresions” and the all-encompassing “systemic racism” cause du jour. A society with enough brutal honesty to say “stereotypes are based in reality – change reality to change the stereotype” is one that can survive. We will not survive.
My brown-hued brother gets pulled over far more than me and my pale skin (we’re both hispanic), despite (because of?) living in a hispanic-majority city with about 10-1 odds the LEO is also hispanic. It’s played off as a laugh because watching the local news nearly guarantees seeing someone who looks like my brother committing violent or property crime.
A society with enough brutal honesty to say “stereotypes are based in reality – change reality to change the stereotype” is one that can survive. We will not survive.
One more time.
Old Holborn: “If you’re going to assume my ancestors were slave traders, I’m going to assume your ancestors ate missionairies.”
If you’re going to assume my ancestors were slave traders, I’m going to assume your ancestors sold them the slaves.
A society with enough brutal honesty to say “stereotypes are based in reality – change reality to change the stereotype”
I give the black YouTuber a lot of respect for pointing out that Breonna Taylor, while an innocent victim of an indefensible no-knock police raid, nonetheless chose to associate with violent felons and drug dealers. That tends to greatly increase the odds of dangerous consequences.
Hal, no one is saying that anytime boys are left without authority, it’ll descend into anarchy and violence.
Except that such a claim was the attempt, as noted on the page.
And we know that Lord Of The Flies is badly contrived fiction.
And, altogether, as we keep seeing.
Point, counterp—-Oh, nevermind . . .
Let’s recap. Hal apparently believes that a feral individual who, to quote our host, “as part of a mob, indulges in recreational sociopathy” – not who might conceivably do so, but who actually has – is no different than a well-educated and well-behaved teenager, such that pointing out that “if Biden wins as they will know, there is no authority that will come and stop them” is contradicted by the behavior of said teenagers.
Is that about the shape of it?
Ah,no. What are you reading ?

Meanwhile, Baghdad Bob has stiff competition in Kenosha
The Garbage Media is getting a bit surreal. Apart from the fires, the thuggery, the shootings, the destruction of small businesses, and the widespread looting, the bill for which is already in many millions of dollars, it’s all terribly peaceful. Nothing to see here. And likewise, when ‘protestors’ have been out righteously ‘protesting’, for the betterment of us all, they always return home with a flat-screen TV and sixteen pairs of stolen trainers.
Now please stop noticing things. Oh, and obviously, vote Democrat.
Re the non-vocal Land of Hope and Glory I was told yesterday that a number of patriotic types, including representatives of the biker community, intend to be singing lustily outside the Royal Albert Hall at the appropriate time.
Tomorrow’s Ephemera has been compiled and should materialise just after midnight.

The latest from the BBC Mews.
I am sick of the “blacks are entitled to burn loot murder for justice” – “any violence at the riots was the fault of outside instigators” double act.
Every society dies eventually. But I don’t think this will be what kills American society. To paraphrase Adam Smith, there is a great deal of ruin in a society.
You could double the murder rate in America and still be at less than half the rate of Brazil, and Brazilian society has not entirely disintegrated yet. BLM riots have only murdered I think 25 people so far – suppose they double the rate and do it all year? Another 100 murders a year would be very sad, but America has over 10 000 murders a year, the majority committed by blacks. Who are already, well, criminally underpoliced.
Not content to be a little cosmopolitan island in the Flyoverian Sea, Minneapolis has shown a level of innovation and ambition that’s the envy of its coastal peers. We no longer require a police shooting to spark the arson and looting — no, for Minneapolis, all you need is for a murder suspect to turn his weapon on himself and blow his own head off!
(No, I’m not linking the footage. This is a classy joint.)

We eliminate the middle-man and pass the savings on to YOU!
“LOL”
Number 1? Last time I looked, Land of Hope and Glory was occupying seven of the top ten positions in the Amazon UK chart, with Rule, Britannia in two of the other three.
I don’t think the BBC knows this country very well.

We no longer require a police shooting…
It was a police adjacent shooting.
I don’t think the BBC knows this country very well.
And perhaps more to the point, they don’t seem to like it much either.
Which, it has to be said, is not the greatest incentive for the rest of us to subsidise their activity.
A forlorn hope, I know, but I bought “Land of Hope and Glory” on iTunes US and gave it a spin.
Godammit, you know it’s unmanly to blubber at the kitchen table.
Last time I looked, Land of Hope and Glory was occupying seven of the top ten positions in the Amazon UK chart
Nineteen of the top 30 items are now music of which the BBC, our nation’s state broadcaster, does not approve.
“Godammit, you know it’s unmanly to blubber at the kitchen table.”
Before the début performance, Elgar is reputed to have said, “I’ve got a tune in here that’ll knock ’em flat”. He wasn’t wrong.
Further absurdity from the People’s Republic across the river. On Monday, the major newspaper in Minneapolis ran a story about local businessmen fighting to overturn the City’s ban on security shutters for storefronts. The City decided 15 years ago that shutters would make the city “unwelcoming” and could cause people to feel “unsafe” when they came to shop or eat downtown.
Three days later, the major newspaper in Minneapolis ran a story about local businessmen cleaning up the shattered glass from all their storefront windows as they surveyed the damage from the fires and looting resulting from our innovative “Black Suicides Matter” program.
No comment from the City Council or the Mayor’s office on whether months of widespread looting, arson and assault are encouraging more people to come downtown for eating, shopping and entertainment.
“I’ve got a tune in here that’ll knock ’em flat”
It’s when the chorus kicks in, which is why I cry hearing “Mr. Blue Sky.”
That, and “God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet” sounds to me more like a plea for help nowadays rather than an expression of imperialism.
which is why I cry hearing “Mr. Blue Sky.”

We won’t judge. And it is a very good pop song.
https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/bridges-raised-over-chicago-river-following-protests/2311595/
Slightly old news but bridges over the Chicago river have been raised to prevent rioters from the South side from accessing the affluent North side. Questionable effectiveness but oh the optics!
So, not sure the connection twixt Land of Hope and Glory and Mr. Blue Sky so in the process of researching (My Yank ass is still missing something here) but I ran across this. Very cool to see not just UK flags waving but so many others.
https://youtu.be/vpEWpK_Dl7M
Damn near made me wanna kiss The Queen…but that would be wrong…a couple of ways…but still…
“Very cool to see not just UK flags waving but so many others.”
What surprises me is how few actual foreign flags there were as recently as 2009 (discounting the various home nations, regional/county flags, Crown Dependencies, etc., which are fair enough). The BBC’s been encouraging that lately, no doubt to dilute the scary patriotism. The place was absolutely festooned in star-spangled sphincters in 2016.
That was then. This is now.
All things pass. Some are murdered.
The BBC’s been encouraging that lately, no doubt to dilute the scary patriotism.
Hmmm. Not sure how I feel now. The main stanza, the part most people were singing, being about freedom and such, the only flags I was seeing were UK/Scot/Eng/Wales/etc, US, and pretty much all others being western democracies, I took it differently. The EU flag being In there in a 2016 context, or at all for that matter, is just stupid. What I watched I took in the context of multi-national patriotism. You love your country, I love mine, they love theirs, we all respect each other because “Yay Freedom”. The EU is pretty much the opposite of that. This is what I get for letting my cynical guard down and actually feeling good about something. Need to remember that the next time I get that nagging feeling of hopefulness.
“Re the non-vocal Land of Hope and Glory I was told yesterday that a number of patriotic types, including representatives of the biker community, intend to be singing lustily outside the Royal Albert Hall at the appropriate time. ”

I’d hoped for street parties doing this. Doing it in front of the hall must be an expression of the classic English two-finger salute.
Good on yer, mates!
. . . so in the process of researching . . . I ran across this.
