The Small Matter Of The Bar Tab (2)
Yes, it’s time to remind patrons that this rickety barge is kept afloat by the kindness of strangers. If you’d like to help it remain buoyant for a while longer, and remain ad-free, there’s an orange button below with which to monetise any love. Debit and credit cards are accepted. For those wishing to express their love regularly, there’s a monthly subscription option top left. And if one-click haste is called for, my PalPay.Me page can be found here. Additionally, any Amazon shopping done via this link or the search widget top right, or for Amazon US via this link, results in a small fee for your host at no extra cost to you.
For newcomers wishing to know more about what’s been going on here for the last decade or so, and in over 2,500 posts and 80,000 comments, the reheated series is a pretty good place to start, and where you’ll find things like this, and like these. If you can, do take a moment to poke through the discussion threads too. The posts are intended as starting points, not full stops, and the comments are where much of the good stuff is waiting to be found. And do please join in.
Again, thanks for the support, the comments, and the company.
May your picnic tartlets never attract the attention of wasps, ants and other freeloaders.
Also ping.

I see the vanguard of the proletariat has arrived.
Steady, ladies. Form an orderly line.
A sort of ping! rather than a Kerchiiing! But better than nowt.
If that picture is of your lodger, I don’t think the orderly line is going to be forming and you are stuck with ‘him’.
Thanks for the education!
May you never have to make-do with a heavily scented, non-moisturising brand of handwash.

Oh, I dunno. I see quite a few ladies brandishing two-by-fours and bug repellent.

I quite like this one.
A slightly more nuanced version here.

I think the moral of the story is never to interact with professors of women’s and gender studies, the majority of whom seem to be captious, spiteful, delusional bitches.

Smell the entitlement. And the disdain for what parents might prefer.

Oh, is that one of those “incels” we’ve been warned about?
Tip jar hit. Keep up the good work.

Was he arrested for having a peeler or imitating a Peeler ?

Good lord, Farnsworth, if I visit Scotland I should remember to leave my knitting needles and crochet hooks at home!
I wonder how often Scottish police lurk outside Yarn shops waiting for the errant grandmother.
Jen,
This.
“No True Scotsman” arguments aplenty in the replies.
Exactly what I was expecting.
Farnsworth,
That’s an offensive weapon, that is!

The wokelings do keep pushing this woo despite it being discredited. Last year, Everyday Feminism’s Sandra Kim insisted that “people of colour” can feel the emotions of their ancestors via “inter-generational trauma,” which is passed on “genetically” and “lives inside of your body.” Ms Kim, you’ll recall, struggles to sustain anything approaching a logical argument, or even to finish her own sentences. She does, however, repeatedly use the words “and so,” which is somewhat funny, given how rarely any one thing she says follows from another.
Meanwhile, Keeping Marx company, Lysenkoism is alive and well.
And the award for the dumbest, most “woke” reply goes to…
There you have it: “PING” “Get the fuck out of here” and “Germans are not European”.
I suspect @PopeDarth is pissed that his precious Angry Studies degree is actually a hindrance to gainful employment.

I’d wager her “intersectional” Wymyns Studies professor used it and Ms Kim thought it oh-so-clever.
Meanwhile, Keeping Marx company, Lysenkoism is alive and well.
The parsing of Ms Kim’s “Healing from Toxic Whiteness” seminar is worth watching in full. It does capture the absurdity and creepiness of the project – and the kinds of personalities it attracts.
And it’s perhaps worth noting that the hypothetical sufferers of such “intergenerational trauma” whose claims might seem among the strongest, assuming any such effect exists – say, immediate descendants of Holocaust survivors – are not generally the ones demanding special accommodation for some ghostly but disabling phenomenon. Such that their grades, behaviour and emotional incontinence should be excused and deferred to for as long as they find convenient. Instead, the woo is embraced by middle-class women with time and money to waste on Women’s Studies courses and fatuous New Age seminars on “toxic whiteness.”
Tip jar rattled.
https://journalism.columbia.edu/cost-attendance
Cost of a one-year journalism MS: $105,000 including living expenses. Google research suggests average US journalism salaries run from S35-80k and even in New York the mean is only $76,590 and probably boosted by well-paid senior hacks.
Madness.

Of course if you poke through the mental wreckage of Everyday Feminism, where these claims serve a willing, credulous audience, you’ll spot the implication that Brown People’s Feelings™ have magical properties and are deeper and more authentic, and therefore more important, than the emotions experienced by people of pallor. Which is not at all racist, somehow. The object, inevitably, seems to be to bolster the tedious psychodramas of people like this.
And so other, more obvious possibilities are carefully ignored. Among them, that being raised in a culture of chronic, pretentious victimhood and irresponsibility, one reinforced all but daily in academia, and by claims of some supposedly genetic “intergenerational trauma,” may be a much more plausible hazard to mental health and result in mental habits that are, shall we say, suboptimal.

That.
That.
Well, if you’re taught that you got a ‘D’ on that English test because of “white supremacy,” and taught that grammar is “an unjust language structure,” and that the correction of basic spelling errors is “an oppressive practice” and proof of “an inherently racist society,” then it’s hard to see any obvious practical benefit, or any motive for improvement. As a mental habit, reinforced by supposedly statusful people and in the name of education, the likely effects are irresponsibility, resentment and ultimately failure.
Of course resentment and failure are easily exploited by those inclined to do so, and whose livelihoods depend on a never-ending supply.
Pinged.

May your chopping board remain free of pestilence.

Um, does ‘fragrant’ lack negative connotations in Britain that are not apparent on this side of the Pond?
Um, does ‘fragrant’ lack negative connotations in Britain
Fragrant as in the merest scent of talc, a molecule or two. As opposed to the ripened stench of boiled feet.
“Of course resentment and failure are easily exploited by those inclined to do so, and whose livelihoods depend on a never-ending supply.”
I think this sums up the “social justice” crowd manipulators quite nicely.
And, as usual, the people who really need help get lost in the noise. (or is it cacophony).
I think this sums up the “social justice” crowd manipulators quite nicely.
I think this quote here is a handy summary.
“professors of women’s and gender studies, the majority of whom seem to be captious, spiteful, delusional bitches“
All of whom.
I think this sums up the “social justice” crowd manipulators quite nicely.
As noted previously, by the time Dr Inoue’s students have figured out that employers don’t generally regard ungrammatical job applications riddled with inept spelling as a good sign, and that the debts they took on in order to be schooled in pretentious grievance aren’t getting any smaller, it’ll be too late. Dr Inoue and his fellow “social justice” parasites will have been paid and the next batch of dupes will be lining up.
And likewise the students who take the advice of CUNY’s middle-aged delinquent Dr A.W. Strouse, who also claims that black students needn’t master even basic grammar – the grammar that he uses to signal his all-important intellectual status – and who suggests that jobseekers should tell potential employers to – and I quote – “fuck off.” Because the fallout from his advice won’t ever be felt by him. Only by the suckers who take him seriously.
