- You Can't Afford My Radical Life
“I don’t want to commit to any sort of definition.”
How convenient.
How convenient.
It does allow for a certain elasticity of definition and keeps wide open the range of people who may be denounced and harassed. As illustrated by the exchange, around 1:25, when the interviewer suggests that it’s a little odd to slander people, vehemently, as “Nazis” and “fascists” if, when pressed, you can’t even define those terms. At which point, the student being interviewed announces that the interviewer and his cameraman are obviously Nazis and fascists.

Well, of course.
Heh. Also at Campus Reform,
I seem to recall most of my teachers at that age being officers in the Combined Cadet Force, or running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. But I’m sure the city of Berkeley knows what it’s doing.
Well, of course.
Aside from the fact that knowing what words mean would be restricting and inconvenient, there’s also the air of protest-as-recreation, as a social activity, in which specifics – like whether someone actually deserves the appellation ‘Nazi’ – don’t seem to matter much. As exemplified by the gormless grinning youth in the white T-shirt, who looks like his E is about to kick in.
The video demonstrates that these lunatics are engaged in nothing more than 1960s cosplay. They are demonstration re-enactors down to the bad hygiene and pot-fueled incoherence.

Sam,
I seem to recall most of my teachers at that age being officers in the Combined Cadet Force, or running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. But I’m sure the city of Berkeley knows what it’s doing.
Of course they do, just ask Hal. (>_<)

They’re hoping to eventually be able to enjoy other recreational activities, such as sending people to gulags and liquidating those who resist indoctrination.
They are channeling their inner Quincy Adams Wagstaff:
…other recreational activities, such as sending people to gulags and liquidating those who resist indoctrination.
If Billy Ayres, Bernadine Dorne, and the rest of their Weather Underground pals were any indication, much the same as in the 1960s. In their manifesto, Prairie Fire, they off-handedly estimated that 25 million of their fellow Americans would need to be “liquidated”.
In being unable to define what they think is “fascism,” they seem to very unintelligently fall back on the now-shopworn cliché of “I know it when I see it.”
(And the late Justice Potter Stewart has to be doing 1,000 RPMs in his grave because of it. See Jacobellis v. Ohio, 378 U.S. 184, 197 (1964) (Potter, J., concurring)).
Muldoon, you left this line out (although I know it didn’t work for your purposes):
For months before my son was born,
I used to scream from night til morn,
“Whatever it is, im against it.”
And I’ve been yelling since I first commenced it,
I’m against it!
Then there’s the chap who claims to be spreading “a message of compassion and justice” by smearing anyone insufficiently leftwing as a “Nazi.”
As exemplified by the gormless grinning youth in the white T-shirt, who looks like his E is about to kick in.

Nearly all Progressives strongly deny any such interest in gulags and mass killings, but their denials are fatally contradicted by their support for Ayers and Dohrne and similar people.
But I’m sure the city of Berkeley knows what it’s doing.
Of course they do, just ask Hal. (>_<)
Thank yew, thank yew, yera wunnerful audience, enjoy the wait staff and remember to tip the buffet . . .
. . . and I have no idea on the Berkeley School staffing, not my area of exposure.
At the very least, of Berkeley as the general aggregate mass, I would state that everything remains entirely as discussed a bit back . . .
“‘Eezer Goode ‘Eezer Goode He’s Ebeneezer Goode!”
There are some memories I’m trying to repress.
Surely I’m not the only one drawing comparisons with Al Capp’s S.W.I.N.E. ( Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything ).
Aside from the fact that knowing what words mean would be restricting and inconvenient, there’s also the air of protest-as-recreation, as a social activity…
This. And the self-righteous satisfaction and feeling of power that comes along with this social activity, this mob action. They are sort of drunk on that, aren’t they.
Blimey. There are foxes shagging on the lawn.
I’m sure the city of Berkeley knows what it’s doing.
Felarca teaches at some kind of private or QUANGO school, so she’s exempt from the usual scrutiny. On the other hand, there exists copious video of Felarca committing violent felony assault on innocent bystanders while the police stand by and watch.
She should be in jail several times over by now.
Incoherent nincompoops…
“…foxes shagging on the lawn.”
Spring’s on the way! In these parts, squirrels will start breeding in a week or two.
Cats, like Daylight Savings Time, seem to be working their way towards all year round. The last time we heard a female in heat was around Thanksgiving (late November) and I just heard the first one of the season; a little early, if she’s bred today the kittens will be born in early-mid March, but not freakishly so. Cats in heat in late November—now THAT used to be freakish.
I’m sure it’s all caused by global warming.

Iranian protests may have been caused by climate change – it is science !
Climate change – It’s a floor wax, and a dessert topping as well.

Scientific American started going downhill in the late eighties, accelerated in the nineties, and became unreadable in the 2000’s…
Climate change…this was a laugh…

On a positive note, the comments were all derogatory when I read this this morning.
I may have posted this here before, but it’s evergreen.
Orwell, “Politics and the English Language” (1946): ‘The word Fascism has now no meaning except in so far as it signifies “something not desirable”. … Words of this kind are often used in a consciously dishonest way. That is, the person who uses them has his own private definition, but allows his hearer to think he means something quite different.’
“engaged in nothing more than 1960s cosplay”
Hoffer’s The True Believer:
“The followers of a mass movement see themselves on the march with drums beating and colors flying.
They are participators in a soul-stirring drama played to a vast audience—generations gone and generations yet to come. They are made to feel that they are not their real selves but actors playing a role, and their doings a “performance,” rather than as the real thing”
So if you’re only “playing a role”, there’s not much need to feel embarrassed or shame about your behavior. Reminds me of the debates between Vidal and Buckley where apparently Vidal thought it was all just a great big joke and entertainment for the audience.

Over the past 20 years, ocean basins have sunk an average of 0.004 inches per year.
Really? Not 0.0035 or 0.00427? What’s the margin of error on those measurements?
I do so enjoy such impossibly accurate and precisely small measurements of objects which are (relatively) impossibly large. Such tripe making it into print is only possible when you have an ignorant audience.
The honest protester:
Look, it’s quite simple:I am anti-fascist so it follows with an elegant simplicity that anything I am anti, or is anti me, must be fascist and fair game for violent resistance. Now stop asking annoying questions before I decide you’re anti me.
Quincy Adams Wagstaff
Yes. Yes, he is.
