Ian Tuttle on leftism and thuggery:
It is clear that, for Antifa, the purpose [of their language] is to cloak reality. Antifa’s reason for describing something or someone as “fascist” is not that it is actually fascist… but that describing it that way is politically advantageous. Likewise with any number of other slurs. Antifa are in effect claiming to oppose everything that is bad — and, of course, it is Antifa who decide what is bad. Hence the organisers of the Inauguration Day protests could write, as their mission statement, that “#DisruptJ20 rejects all forms of domination and oppression.” That is a good monopoly if you can get it… They are, in the final analysis, simply claiming that people who think like them should be exempt from the law’s constraints, and that people who do not think like them should not receive the law’s protections.
When your political worldview is premised on the coercion of others, and on pathological self-flattery, it’s not too much of a stretch.
Heather Mac Donald on a real “rape culture” that’s oddly unacknowledged by campus feminists:
In March, a 15-year-old girl in Chicago was lured into a basement and gang-raped by five to six males. The girl was threatened with a pit bull if she tried to flee… One of the participants live-streamed the rape on Facebook. So far, two boys, 15- and 14-years-old, have been arrested for the attack… Up to 40 people watched the rape live; none reported it to the police or to Facebook. Since then, threats, taunts, social-media bullying, and physical assaults have been directed at… the victim and her family, not at the rapists. A group of girls beat the victim’s twelve-year-old sister last week, reports DNA Info Chicago. One of the girl’s attackers said: “Why [did] you send my brother to jail,” according to her mother. You want to see an example of “blaming the victim?” This is it.
Tim Newman on attempts to glamorise polyamory:
Ah, this old chestnut: ‘traditional marriages often fail so polyamorous ones are worth considering.’ What nobody ever does is closely examine the rate at which polyamorous relationships fail, the mental state of the people involved in them, and the effect on any children unfortunate enough to be caught up in them.
Related, in two contrasting parts, the views of Laurie Penny and Brad Wilcox, only one of whom uses data.
And Dominic Mancini on a grave threat to the wellbeing of minority students at the University of Michigan:
Anna Wibbelman, former president of Building a Better Michigan, an organisation that voices student concerns about university development, stated at a student government meeting in late March that “minority students felt marginalised by quiet, imposing, masculine [wood] panelling” found throughout the 100-year-old building, the meeting’s minutes state.
As usual, feel free to share your own links and snippets, on any subject, in the comments.
And therefore no white people are allowed in the student café and lounge.
And yet that dynamic seems awfully common among devotees of unstable multi-partner relationships
While what prompted Kolpakov to shoot Anable is still unknown, I just noticed another video from The Skpetic Feminist called ‘Polyamory As Opposite of Jealousy’ in which Kolpakov can be heard to say:
“Polygamy is … almost always focussed around the disproportionate pleasure of the male … that’s not at all what polyamory is. Poly people will have to be very patient and just explain to people – time and again, time and again, time and again, that it’s about being able to love more than one person at a time.”
That video is dated to May 3rd, just 10 days before the shooting.
The description box below the dateline includes – for some reason in parenthesis – this note:
(This was streamed before Athena joined our relationship of Poly-Fidelity).
I stress that this is all just speculation, and again that Kolpakov is said to be suffering from PTSD – but again, it really is hard to believe that the complexities of adding a third woman to their polyamorous set-up did not play some role in increasing his stress levels.
Commitment to idealism founders to the extent that it is in conflict with reality. This might well turn out to be a tragic example of that.
From sH2
Does ‘polyamory’ count as greed or selfishness?
From the article on John Updike:
Though later, in his 1996 memoir Self-Consciousness — which is an altogether excellent read — Updike would speak of that youthful promiscuity with great disdain, proclaiming those behaviors to be “malicious, greedy … obnoxious … rapacious and sneaky … remorseless,” …
again, it really is hard to believe that the complexities of adding a third woman to their polyamorous set-up did not play some role in increasing his stress levels.
Well, if you wanted to complicate your life with huge potential for insecurity and resentment, embracing polyamory would be an obvious way to go about it. And I suppose it’s worth bearing in mind that dysfunctional people will often put themselves in dysfunctional situations that exacerbate any neurotic or counter-productive tendencies. There’s an aspect of self-inflicted misery to consider.
Commitment to idealism founders to the extent that it is in conflict with reality.
And what gets called ‘idealism’ is sometimes difficult to distinguish from wilfully sub-optimal behaviour. Quite often, I think.
There is no way that I or my kids will identify as anything other than black.
Is it just me, or is that suggestive of psychological abuse? “Pretentious wanker” is way too flattering.
“Pretentious wanker” is way too flattering.
I was sparing the ladies. We don’t want dicentra fainting again.
And in shocking, yes shocking, news – it turns out that “social justice” warriors don’t actually buy the kind of superhero comics that they think other people should want.
And in shocking, yes shocking, news
In other shocking news SJWs ruin everything.
I reject my white privilege in a racist America.
I see. The options are a) become “white” and learn the secret handshake that is guaranteed to bring the untold wealth and status that every ofay enjoys, but at the cost of losing one’s job as a race hustler, or b) keep the marginal job and coveted victim status.
I know you are me, but no cop is going to take the time to find out your mother is white.” She was very specific about raising me as a black man.
Ah, I see the problem, the white mom was teaching him to be a black man. No wonder he is so confused.
In other shocking news SJWs ruin everything.
Specifically . . . (H/T Instapundit)
As one of Insty’s commenters notes, the beneficiaries of Mizzou’s troubles are Truman State University which for years has been a small, but nationally ranked liberal arts college in Kirksville and Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla which is also highly regarded as a STEM university. Thus, Mizzou is losing the cream of the state crop of liberal arts, science and engineering to universities which avoided the SJW madness.
“safe sex and washing up”
Ewwwww. IYKWIMAITYD
In other words, they hate white people and Europe civilization, and so are always looking for things to object to.
Hmm. You might be onto something. But don’t forget this was a white liberal making the charge on behalf of minorities so it may be the usual patronizing bullshit.
Most young people are awed the very first time they enter a grand old hall that reeks of tradition, wealth, and an era gone by. It’s part of growing up and learning about the world beyond one’s own modest beginnings or background. It’s a good thing.
It takes a special kind of idiot to turn that awe into an example of racial oppression or intimidation.
Jen’s right: liberals do ruin everything.
Ewwwww.
Just tile the bedroom and then hose it down.
It’s part of growing up and learning about the world beyond one’s own modest beginnings or background.
Both of which seem to be anathema to the current crop.
R.Sherman,
The loss of students would result in about $16.6 million less in revenue. Leaders hope to make up about $7 million of that through a 2.1 percent increase in tuition.
Mizzou students play stupid games, win stupid prizes – and are now expected to pay for them. Bravo!
Oh, and this too:
…which for years has been a small, but nationally ranked liberal arts college
The same was once said of the Claremont Colleges in Southern California. As we have seen highlighted in these pages, the SJW parasite has severely infected them and appear to be trying to kill their host.
Both of which seem to be anathema to the current crop.
There’s certainly a trend, heavily encouraged by leftist educators, towards shrinking the wider world in order to “reflect” the students’ own preoccupations and “identities,” and thereby in no way threaten them. Though these supposedly precious identities are very often absurdly narrow and acted out as if they were racial caricatures. As in the case of the Columbia University undergraduate, a young black woman, supposedly a student of the humanities, who complained, “Why did I have to listen… to this Mozart? Who is this Mozart?” Because showing interest in composers of pallor, even the really big ones, is, in her mind, tantamount to racism.
See also the third and fourth items here.
“Why did I have to listen… to this Mozart? Who is this Mozart?”

Saw these two bumperstickers on the same car driving in to work yesterday:
Then driving home from work, these two on the same car:
The problem with stupid is it hurts other people as well.
The same was once said of the Claremont Colleges in Southern California.
There’s no doubt that what you note is a concern, but parents are expressing their displeasure with Mizzou via their checkbooks, if not verbally. I took the youngest to Truman a few months ago and on our campus tour with about a dozen prospective students and parents, it was clear that the goings-on at Mizzou had led to an increase in interest among the liberal arts inclined high school students. Ditto business students, nurses and teachers. I think the administration at Truman “gets it” and in the crab bucket of budget competition doesn’t want to do anything to diminish its applicant pool.
Disclosure: My eldest graduated from Truman summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in the liberal arts and is gainfully employed supporting herself in her field in Europe. I hope the youngest follows her example.

Theirs is a prideful ignorance, triumphal even, and all but impervious.
“Hmm. You might be onto something. But don’t forget this was a white liberal making the charge on behalf of minorities so it may be the usual patronizing bullshit.”
You may be right. I wasn’t there. Or it could be both: I have certainly read stories about arrogant immigrants making making offensively ridiculous demands.
Theirs is a prideful ignorance, triumphal even, and all but impervious.
Arguing with with campus “social justice warriors” is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are, or how compelling your argument, they are only going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut about like they’re victorious.
In “cultural appropriation” news: the shutuppery is accelerating.
While it may be amusing to watch the Left devour itself, it is ill tidings for freedom of expression everywhere.
More blatant lying about Charles Murray.
Who’d have guessed that leftist ‘activists’ who exult in mob thuggery would also lie, and lie repeatedly?
would also lie, and lie repeatedly
Well, once they’ve been convinced that there is no objective truth, lying is easy – because it isn’t really lying, see?
And in shocking, yes shocking, news – it turns out that “social justice” warriors don’t actually buy the kind of superhero comics that they think other people should want.
But, but, but, how dare people lack interest in apparently tritely utterly inept writing???
Well, lesseee. A) Harlem—and everywhere else—is now completely locked down, therefore there is no reason to have a particular interest in just Harlem, and there goes the premise. Or, B) only Harlem is locked down, where, let’s face it, we’re noting superheroes here, which therefore gets everyone coming to play and not just BP and co., and there goes the premise. Or, C) Harlem is just as open as everywhere else, just like things are out here in reality, and therefore when people decide they don’t like what’s around them in a particular area, they leave, and there goes the premise.
Or, there is something going on, only in Harlem, where the robocops get tossed from the story because having ’em just brings B) back in. The something is indeed occurring and pissing people off, but what’s going on is not at such a level to trigger C). So, PB sets some bait to see what or who snaps at the bait, and then jumps the chain, or else instead he finds that . . . . . . . . .
—And this is totally and completely off the top of my head, merely from looking over only the article . . .

Heh. Today’s word is symbolism.
Maybe Labour HQ should give her some giant squeaky clown shoes and be done with it.
Nikw211,
In a somewhat uncanny coincidence, a trio of polyamorous feminist atheists on Youtube, going by the name of The Skeptic Feminist took a tragic turn at the weekend when the only male member of the group, Aleksandr Kolpakov (known online as ‘Russian Dead Pool’) shot and fatally wounded Heather Anable (whose online name was ‘Poison Ivy’, named after the Batman villainess).
Oh, I saw that all over Twitter! I was trying to figure out what happened, but never realised they were polyamorists. Well, well, well.
“Well, once they’ve been convinced that there is no objective truth, lying is easy – because it isn’t really lying, see?”
Was it someone here that mentioned so much of the bullshit being large scale political LARPing? Eric Hoffer had some insightful thoughts on how these morons see themselves in The True Believer.
[…] it turns out that “social justice” warriors don’t actually buy the kind of superhero comics that they think other people should want.
Hard Travelling Heroes; God Loves, Man Kills; George Perez Wonder Woman; the “Iron Age”; Civil War; and now this.
It would seem that every ten years or so, comic books have to embark on an ill-advised campaign to bring social relevance and current issues to a medium about steroid jockeys who wear their underwear on the outside, before being shanked in the kidneys by the crudely fashioned shiv of economic reality.
… it turns out that “social justice” warriors don’t actually buy the kind of superhero comics that they think other people should want.
I’d be willing to bet that SJW’s don’t routinely buy ANYTHING, due to that puzzling social stigma, “Lack-of-job-induced lack of money”.
Amirite?
