Newcomers and the nostalgic will be thrilled to hear that the greatest hits archive has (finally) been updated. Among the additions are Laurie Penny’s not-at-all-disastrous lifestyle advice, how not being fat makes you an oppressor, why your erotic preferences are in need of egalitarian correction, and the Guardian’s Sarah Marsh on the traumatising horror of being offered free cake.
Did you have to put links? Stupidly, I clicked on a couple. The items were painful enough to read first time around and they haven’t improved with age. Now I have to go out for an espresso and some therapeutic shopping to cheer myself up. No, skip the shopping. It’s an unmitigated nightmare at this time of year. Sod it, I’ll have a cake with the coffee.
No refunds. Credit note only.

I have to keep reminding myself this was written by an adult.
I have to keep reminding myself this was written by an adult.
It’s a signature of much of the Guardian’s feminist commentary, and of the unironic readers of such articles, and to a large extent of feminist commentary more generally. It often evokes all of the stoicism and self-possession, and all of the self-knowledge, of a fifteen-year-old girl. For whom even the mildest peer pressure is like Jupiter’s gravity.

Excellent.
A scant hundred twenty years ago some young men were crewing clipper ships from China and swinging from the rigging during gales they couldn’t predict by satellite while dead-reckoning around shoals they couldn’t see by GPS.
Today others of them are pajamed, clutching mugs of warm beverages and discussing who said what about whom.

Legally yes, mentally, I think not…
Neoteny does seem to be a very common in the left.

Compare and contrast indeed:
Wait a second. I thought it was being thin that was oppressing people. Fat shaming and all that, don’t you know.
One almost gets the impression that people are looking for any excuse to claim they’re being made victims, and then useing that to oppress other people. But nobody would project like that, would they?
One almost gets the impression that people are looking for any excuse to claim they’re being made victims…
But if victimization didn’t make you a hero, wouldn’t you then have to do something like, you know, heroic? And that’s so hard!
Becoming a victim is a way to gain power.

This Is Insane.
It makes perfect sense in the Clown Quarter, fnord.

As our host would say, ‘lefties project’.

Morning, all.
As our host would say, ‘lefties project’.
Heh. Let’s see. First, there’s the assumption that ostentatiously disdaining “white guys” is a path to in-group status and radical credibility, and not at all facile, or fashionable, or indeed racist. And the assumption that a dislike of “social justice” blather and its authoritarian tendencies must, simply must, be confined to “white guys,” thereby erasing – to use the politically correct term – countless people who don’t fit that description. Then there’s the belief that political correctness isn’t in any way “establishment,” despite it being premised on coercion and intrusion, and despite it gestating in academia’s bureaucracy, where the left holds court, then spreading to other institutional bureaucracies, not least those of the state. And then there’s the implicit assumption that being “edgy and maverick” is actually what the proponents of political correctness are.
That ostentatiously disdaining “white guys” is modish, applauded, and carries little risk of sanction by peers and employers, as opposed to publicly disdaining almost any other identity group, and in no way inhibits fawning profiles in the New York Times, the New Yorker and the Washington Post, all of which Ms Zeisler has enjoyed, rather casts doubt on her own conceit.

You don’t even need to go back 120 years, just look at the young men graduating from various American or British military courses. Only the media prefers to present Pajama Boy as somebody to aspire to.
Heh. Let’s see. First…
That, so very much. Bravo, David.

Indeed – dueling smirks:
The gentleman on the bottom is a U.S. Army medic SPC Tschiderer who was shot in the chest by Iraqi snipers hiding in a van. The shot knocked SPC Tschiderer down, but he got up to cover whereupon he and other Soldiers lit up the van wounding the occupants who were quickly captured. The actual sniper who shot him was among the wounded, and SPC Tschiderer went over and proceeded to save the clown’s life by doing his medic magic.
Farnsworth,
The site hosting the second image doesn’t permit hotlinking. If you email me the relevant page and point out the image you want, I’ll… sort it out.
David,
The page.
However, maybe this one works – the difference is that the one on the page linked also shows the mark the round made through the SAPI plate that saved SPC Tschiderer.
why your erotic preferences are in need of egalitarian correction,
Saw this bit of your post…
Apparently, we should be cultivating politically correct romantic and erotic attractions to unappealing people – say, overweight bores with borderline personalities. Because, says Ms Hedlund, love and sex are unequally “distributed,” with an unfair amount of both going to people who are deemed lovable and attractive by the people loving them, and not insufferable sociopaths with horrific disfigurements. Or, one suspects, self-styled “feminist killjoys.”
…And thought of this:
http://theothermccain.com/2016/12/14/tranny-feminist-declares-you-are-discriminatory-not-to-date-himher/
Hmm. I’m a bit confused by the instructions on that thing SPC Tschiderer is wearing.
You’ll pardon me if I ignore the instruction to “Strike Face”, OK? I value my life.
And thought of this:
You’d think that gender dysphoria – being fundamentally alienated from your own physical self – would be a cruel enough twist of fate for any one lifetime. Such that the logic-rotting, happiness-sapping world of leftist gender studies would be a bridge too far. Alas, no.
From everyone’s favorite site,
3 Things My White Husband Needs to Know About the Black Baby We’re Going to Have.
How, exactly, she knows that this poor child yet even to be conceived will be phenotypically “black” and not “white” is not explained, but it is clear that it is to be politically black, whether it wants to be or not. However, on to The Three Laws laid to to the alleged husband, poor sod.
Regarding the latter, her website is not for the faint of heart, particularly the “modeling”. You will be surprised to find that:
Two words of advice for the husband: a) vasectomy, b) flee.
Two words of advice for the husband: a) vasectomy, b) flee.
I imagine that if he had any sense he would have chosen option b) a long time ago. I’d be surprised if this was her first foray into identitarian crap, so it’s not as if he didn’t buy into it already.
Gotta love the stock picture of the biracial couple that illustrates the article, too. Somehow I have a feeling that the couple in question don’t look like this.

Yes. For some of us. But then that’s the difference between leftists and normal people of all shapes and sizes.
Yes. For some of us.
And I suppose it’s easy to forget that there are transgender people who don’t buy into the contortions of the gender studies left.
Somehow I have a feeling that the couple in question don’t look like this.
If you ignore my advice not to go to the author’s website, you will see that the distaff of this odd couple indeed does not.
Fred – that instruction is called “Soldier Proofing” lest anyone be confused that the concave side is supposed to go next to one’s body, not unlike our friend, Mr. Claymore…
If We Have a Daughter, Don’t Fill Up Her Cup of Self-Worth on the Daily…As Black women, we are stereotyped already as “cool” when having inflated self worth and princess syndrome beyond all reason .
Fixed. Little One will already be inclined to follow such examples in roughly all media ever produced, and having a swollen head and superiority/inferiority complex as regards White Dad is a recipe for misery unending. Whatever happened to being a good example and responsible parent? Empty praise coerced by Black Mom as a power play against White Dad is a Jack’s Beanstalk seed for Daddy Doesn’t Love Me in the teen years like few I can imagine.
Deliberately trying to make one’s daughter a “Sassy Black Woman” is tantamount to child abuse.
Why do I think that the woman’s child will have 100% black genes, but that the white sap will still be on the hook? Out, bad thoughts! Out, I say!
@Hopp Singg: Bad thoughts, surely, but it’s often claimed that respect is necessary for love. I detect no respect in her manifesto whatsoever.
Farnsworth:
Years ago I used to tell people that I needed a couple of little light-up signs on my forehead, one “Joke” the other “Sarcasm”.
Hang out around military aircraft any length of time, you see plenty of signage reminding folks of similar bloody useful things. My old man used to get the USMC Aviation magazine, “Approach”, which ran a regular page called “Murphy’s Law”, devoted to all the ways things could go wrong. Funny thing, they never ran out of material. (My dentist, another retired Marine pilot, had “Approach” mag in his waiting room, among other fun stuff. Probably contributed to my dental health all those years.)
I think this is her:
You can see why he’s smitten.
And I think this is the hubbie, in all his lekking glory.
Sporkatus,
Bad thoughts, surely, but it’s often claimed that respect is necessary for love. I detect no respect in her manifesto whatsoever.
No respect at all. She doesn’t really seem to want a child with him; she just wants her child to have a “white person” card to play. She can get that through the marriage without having to sully her child’s genes, so I suspect she will. Clearly the husband won’t complain.
Fred,
I knew you were joshing, I just marvel at some of the instructions that get put on things. The back to the SAPI plates also tell you which side is up which I though was a blinding flash of the obvious till I saw a guy trying to put one into a plate carrier sideways.
Hopp Singg
I warned you not to go to her website, but at least you didn’t post the photo of her upside down in a bathtub full of milk.
“upside down…”

One of the first serious Murphy’s Law incidents I looked into was the loss of several F-111 flying out of Thailand during the Vietnam era. IIRC, rudder failure occurred due to a pin shearing because it had been installed backwards.
Ironically, just prior I had a failure in a planetary gearbox I overhauled, for almost the same reason – backwards gear axle pin.
Hopp Singg,
Thanks for the pic. Praying I have enough eye bleach on hand to forget that proud display of armpit stretch marks.

Indeed.
Less gentlemanly gents in the past would simply say that Ms. Penny “just needed to get schtupped.”
I’m far less charitable.
