If You Film Us Being Violent, Violence Will Happen To You
Further to yesterday’s post and lifted from the comments, via sH2, a warning from anti-Trump protestors to Portland’s local press:
Or, “Do as we say and no-one gets hurt. Apart from the people we’re going to hurt while you’re not filming us, obviously.”
(1) “Do not help the police in identifying persons engaged in illegal activity… Consider this a warning.”
But
(2) “Keep people safe from physical harm.”
Er…
Er…
I’m assuming that if you’re something close to a sociopath, the dissonance is drowned out by lots of other mental noise.
And I thought the use of persons was a nice touch. Classy, like.
Their rote memorization of their Marxist sociology professors’ pretentious rubbish is impressive.
…drowned out by lots of other mental noise.
“There’s a loud buzzing sound in my left ear…
Whose noise? OUR NOISE!
And then of course there’s this:
I can’t help thinking that sheds some light on their motives.
David – it also might mean that they weren’t from Oregon.
Now there’s trouble bussin’ in from out of state…
But I’m confused about one thing: isn’t the entire point of a public protest to make your feelings known? Otherwise you might as well stay home, right? So if you’re trying to let everybody know how you feel, then surely sharing videos on social media would be a good idea.
This isn’t even the first time these unique and beautiful snowflakes have shunned publicity at a public protest. Remember that professor that wanted some “muscle” to get rid of the photographer? Those protesting students had been out there for a few days, and that day they’d decided they didn’t want publicity anymore – possibly because they’d seen the mockery they were getting online – and so they tried to form a human shield-wall around their own protest, preventing reporters and photographers from getting in.
It’s directly counter to the purpose of a protest: you want to effect some change or other; to do that, you need to persuade people; to do that, you need them to hear your message; and for that, you need publicity, which is why you’re all out marching in the streets and shouting through loudhailers.
Of course, thanks to this fine blog, I know that what’s really going on here is a combination of therapy and role play.
Here’s a lovely song.
Ah shit, I fucked up the italics!
And that was in italics too…
Test comment:
Will this be in italics?
How about this?
Sorry to clog up the blog David, I think something’s wrong with my browser. Feel free to delete as needed.
[ Reaches under bar for revolver. ]
Morbidly fascinated by just how many kinds of misdeed this leaflet hints at:
-there is unspecified illegal activity implied to be happening
-accessory to whatever illegal activity
-recruiting for a gang
-attempted witness intimidation/censorship
-various “conspiracy to” and “with malice aforethought” multipliers
-generally Being A Great Bloody Nuisance And Committing A Mischief (bit of a catch-all, I know)
Show your rage.
Yell Fuck the police.

Don’t worry. We’ve stopped filming.

Idiots now getting themselves run over
Let me get this straight. The people wandering onto the freeway, where large metal objects are moving at high speed, are UC San Diego students. The clever ones.
Idiots now getting themselves run overIdiots now terrorising motorists and getting some hard karma.
hard karma
I may have to borrow that one.
hard karma
Given that previous mobs of anti-Trump protestors were filmed deliberately blocking the path of ambulances – yes, ambulances – and giving the finger while doing so – I have very little sympathy for the fool who was clipped. Perhaps a trip to hospital will inspire some rethinking of her choices.
This will only get worse, I fear. Constant upheaval and unrest leading to smug “I told you Trump would be a disaster” pronouncements. It’s all so predictable.
I seem to recall a clip you showed a little while ago with students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
Let’s face it: deep in their heart of hearts, the professionally aggrieved are probably secretly delighted that Donald was the winner.
His presidency guarantees them four solid years of demonstrations and protests t a minimum. And should he win a second term – bonus!
This will only get worse, I fear.
If they can’t, despite the current harassment and intimidation, coerce enough Electors to vote for Hillary instead, they’re planning to disrupt the Inauguration ceremony – as if creating a ruckus will prevent Trump from actually taking office, and somehow they “win”.
… students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
Which really meant “If they are not silenced, we will be violent”.
students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
That’s the thing. Do we think the San Diego students blocking the freeway will eventually come to realise that they were the aggressors? Will any of them empathise with the random drivers on whom they wish to impose themselves in order to seem radical in front of their equally narcissistic and delinquent friends? Will they, of their own volition, pause to consider how frightening it must be to be driving home, perhaps with the kids in tow, and then suddenly being confronted by a mob sprawling into your path, in the dark, on a motorway, intent on who knows what? And will they understand how unwise it is for a driver to stop for a mob and allow themselves to be surrounded by it?
I mean, these are supposed to be clever people.
“I mean, these are supposed to be clever people. ”
I think you have put your finger on the problem, right there.

Anti-Trump protesters get more than they bargained for when they obstruct the wrong people (i.e not Trump supporters):

I take your point, but I seriously doubt we can credit them with that much self-awareness.
“We will not be silenced by your violence.”
What violence? You mean driving a car (which many of the protestors do already and, if the welfare state coughs up enough money, will enable them to drive better cars)?
It is a fair bet too, for example surging on to the freeway, these ‘students’ are actually disrupting the lives of those who voted for Killary rather than Trump. I mean, it was in pro-Democrat California, right? Or have they moved San Diego somewhere else?
Idiots now getting themselves run over
Instapundit behind the wheel?
Their list of things to do has “collaborate” without the prerequisite “stop” or the following “listen”?
It’s almost as if these people are no good at flow. No wonder they don’t want to be filmed – anything less than the best is a felony.
Word to your mother.
I live in Yurrup, so I have only a vague notion of how USA elections work. That said, didn’t the USA freely choose its own electoral system: the one whereby the Electoral College, rather than the popular vote, decides the result? If that is no longer deemed appropriate/viable by a majority of the electorate, surely the better option would be to campaign to get rid of the Electoral College?
Street protests against an election result which, according to current legislation, is both wholly legal and legitimate, doesn’t make any sense. If you want change, address the source of the iniquity and not the by-product.
Is there any reason why Hillary Clinton is not calling publicly for an end to the protests? Perhaps she wants to set the stage for 2020, but that would mean she is placing herself above the nation’s interest. Can’t be.

Visiting hours are somewhat limited at the Betty Ford Clinic.
@Lisboeta: a political system (or elements thereof) is only legitimate in their eyes so long as it leads to the desired outcome. Shades of Erdogan’s remarks on democracy being like a train, a process for arriving at the results you want and then “getting off”.
The Electoral College is laid out in the Constitution itself, and provides (like the original systems for selection of a US Senator) a brake on possible tyranny of the majority. It ensures that a bulk of *states*, and not merely a thin majority of all citizens, makes the decision for the highest office. It also tends to isolate any issues with vote fraud and ensure that recount events and the like are limited in impact.
It also (through the Founders’ fetish for representationalism) provides a series of mechanisms for dealing with the unknown – death of candidate through freak accident, etc. etc.
Further, electoral college victory has always been the set of rules played by and expected by everyone. Declaiming post facto that the EC system is rigged and that Hillary was the “true” winner has been compared to a claim that the Baseball World Series was really a tie because the two teams involved scored an equal number of total points. The Republican model for winning always hinges on turning out as widely as possible all the rural areas, and the Democrats must demagogue in the cities. Electoral victory alone is a tough row for the Republicans to hoe due to having to reach further for it – but Trump himself remarked if the model depended on the popular vote instead he’d have just spent more time in California. In other words, turning out those people who suffer too substantial local disadvantage to ever bother voting.
But, “protests”. You have a set of individuals who first believed that the election of Donald Trump was impossible, now grasping at a set of straws to alter reality to conform to their delusion. It must retroactively become as impossible as they believed it to be, supposedly because “unfair”, but these are the same folk who militated against Bush in ’04, who *had* won the popular vote as well. Allegations of vote fraud in Pennsylvania were stirred up, with claims then that John Kerry should properly have won Pennsylvania and the *electoral* victory, though not necessarily the popular vote!
Setting aside a plausible claim that the extremely narrow margin in the popular vote this time could be due to fraud (surprisingly easy in large portions of the US) and thus no true popular vote victory, some of the throngs are in the meantime attempting to be more “realistic” in their efforts to undo the election… by threatening electors and trying to coerce the College – nevermind that any vote has to be approved by the House of Representatives.
There are those in these “protests” acting in a vague resemblance of good faith – these are the catspaws and fools. Anyone involved with sufficient sanity to recognize a “redo” as a pipe dream has interest in fomenting the riots for political capital – delegitimizing the opposition.
All talk of fairness and this coming as a terrible surprise thereby is a smokescreen.
Morons. That is all.

And of course there is the international level as well as the local—apparently there is a new, or continuing, squabble between China and North Korea. Instead of stating Glorious Leader, the Chinese keep chirping about His Rotundity being fat.

“Perhaps she wants to set the stage for 2020”
I really doubt that Hillary Clinton will be very functional by 2020, if she’s still alive. She really seems to be in pretty bad health, no matter how much her quaking, stumbling, collapsing, etc. was whitewashed by her court press.
Seriously, I’ve watched loved ones exhibit much the same behaviors. And they didn’t last long, alas.
