Well, though your selection of her exceptional paintings certainly depicts what should be the audience’s reaction to her performance, it in no way begins to compare with the Michaelangelo like magnificence of Dropping a Qualia Mug Adrian Parsons Left in My Rental Car, (The silence/foreskin of Adrian Parsons is Overrated), “a screenshot work in progress”, a print of which will only set you back 200 frogskins – a bargain at half the price.

Through multiple collaborations a conceptual arsenal is accumulated, a dense layering of references and narratives, both public and private, building towards a practice of social mythology. I operate in a field of participation and nonconsensual assemblage. Objects are imbued with signification as they circulate among individuals and relationships, readymades become relics. The triptych, Dropping a Qualia Mug Adrian Parsons Left in My Rental Car, (The silence/foreskin of Adrian Parsons is Overrated), 2013 was conceived in collaboration with the exhibition curator Eames Armstrong, as well as Ai Wei Wei, Joseph Beuys, Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, among others, but not Adrian Parsons. Parson’s oft cited significance as a symbol of performance in the District of Columbia enters the work as a fictitious trace, asserting a dynamic shift in the collective narrative of contemporary history, and questioning to what extent authorship can be forced through implication.

As soon as I find a translator for gibberish, I’ll let you know what that means.
Back to the performance, I did find her partner’s initial channeling of Jerry Lewis inspirational.

That work is a “collaboration”, probably because she needed someone to take the photos. Figuring out the timer is soo STEM.

I think the trick to this “art” is in the beverage. In both linked “performances” Mr. Rossetti maintains a tight grip on a can of something-or-other (cranberry juice?); perhaps with a dram or two of vodka? Often times i’ve commented to my wife, while attending a performance of Shakespeare at the Stratford Festival, how much more enjoyable the performance would be if only the actors were carrying around litre sized cans of cranberry juice.

I notice that all the videos she posts have only a handful of views, many of which must be from people on this blog. That’s sad.
The rest are from her parents. sobbing softly, wondering where they went wrong. Sadder still.

Ai Wei Wei has been in the news a lot over the past several years for having taken a lot of garbage from the Chinese gangsters “authorities”, but has anyone noticed that his art is, well, garbage?

Oh, I’m quite sure there is borderline personality disorder. There are no children involved, each seems too self-centred to reproduce. As for the ex suffering, I’m sure he suffered a lot, but…here’s the situation he voluntarily went into:

Yes both Angela and I were Polyamourous when we met. Before the marriage she was steadily dating two other people, separately, a man and a woman. I was dating two people long distance. Angela continued to see her two partners even after she returned from her home country (where she was waiting for a year for a marriage visa). I was good friends with both of them. She also dated another man while in her home country for about 6 months. While she was in her home country I met and started dating someone steadily in NYC.. That person was not Poly at the time but let her know after our first platonic date that I was Poly and was engaged to be married with Angela and that hopefully Angela would be returning. I continued dating her after Angela returned from Russia. I never had a problem with Angela dating others, having sex with others or loving others. Like I said I was good friends with both of Angela’s lovers and still see them from time to time around NYC. The problem did not stem from Polyamory at least not on my end.. The problems stemmed from VERY bad communication or rather lack thereof.

Angela was 21 or 22 at the time. Her ex husband was about 40. Angela’s other lover was in his mid-30s. If I were to guess, she was doing this to get back at her parents who even to this day she rages against for being too old fashioned and close minded.

Ironically (I think I’m using that word correctly…I’m really not sure any more) this thread is reminding me of John Cage’s 4:33, to wit via wiki:

4′33″ (pronounced “Four minutes, thirty-three seconds” or just “Four thirty-three”) is a three-movement composition by American experimental composer John Cage (1912–1992). It was composed in 1952, for any instrument or combination of instruments, and the score instructs the performer(s) not to play their instrument(s) during the entire duration of the piece throughout the three movements. The piece purports to consist of the sounds of the environment that the listeners hear while it is performed, although it is commonly perceived as “four minutes thirty-three seconds of silence”. The title of the piece refers to the total length in minutes and seconds of a given performance, 4′33″ being the total length of the first public performance.
Conceived around 1947–48, while the composer was working on Sonatas and Interludes, 4′33″ became for Cage the epitome of his idea that any sounds may constitute music. It was also a reflection of the influence of Zen Buddhism, which Cage studied since the late 1940s. “Reminded” or “blame”…Perhaps that’s what they were going for and failed even more miserably than as it appears.

By calling this “art,” they are identifying what they believe to now be the height of our virtue as a species.

Aye. I once had the awful experience of going to a similar kind of hell in Glasgee a few years back (I was trying to impress a pretty young thing…..) and what struck me was how others appeared to be buying into it with vocal analyses of form, function and other metaphysical mind-wreck….
Felt like having a sympathy vomit…

I like the way these ‘artists’ often use the idea of ‘nonconsensual something’ in their ‘art’ to make it challenging or whatever. Being the same people on the front lines of demanding safe spaces and crying if someone looks at them funny.
They love to ‘challenge’ other people but crumble as soon as they hear a differing opinion.
Useless brats, all of them.

Gotta agree with Trevor there. What we see here is the end product of a generation that has been told, from the moment they were toddlers, that they were special. I don’t think that they are able to fathom that they don’t measure up. Everything they ever did, every burp, every fart, was lauded to the stars. The schools they went to, the colleges they attended, everybody accommodated them and their illusions, because, hey, you wouldn’t want to crush their self-esteem. And now what we have is the most narcissistic generation to ever walk the face of the Earth.
As my father used to say, only half in joke, “Il leur faudrait une bonne guerre…”

In my experience, these lot aren’t big on shame, humility, or self-awareness. You can guarantee that they’ve never taken responsibility for a damned thing in their lives.
