This Is My Shocked Face
Attention, citizens. A hate crime has been detected at Salisbury University:
The image, found April 10 on a whiteboard in Blackwell Library, showed a stick figure being hanged and labelled with a racial slur. Underneath was the hashtag “#whitepower.”
After much wailing and fretting, and declarations of being “passionate about diversity and inclusion,” and after the involvement of police and the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office, the white supremacist culprits have now been apprehended:
The university confirmed Tuesday, April 26, that the students involved in the incident were black.
Why, it’s almost as if fabricating racial animus were fashionable on campus. And of course beyond.
Um. Worst game of hangman ever?
And dramas like the one above take place in an insulated, almost surreal environment, where students are flattered and cossetted at great expense, and where minority students are indulged even more so, with a vast “diversity” bureaucracy and preferential admissions, and where those same flattered and cossetted students competitively profess their victimhood, saying, apparently in all seriousness, “The current environment on campus takes a huge toll on the psyche of students of colour affected by the subconscious oppression.”
It’s as if university administrators and faculty can’t quite understand that if you reward self-involvement and psychodrama with attention, status, leverage and resources, then self-involvement and psychodrama will inevitably ensue, and quite possibly escalate. You have to wonder what kind of parents they would make, or what kind of parents they are.
And the real problem is:
“Regardless of who created the drawing, we find such actions demeaning to all members of the campus community and against our core values,”
Ah, yea. Nobody *ever* makes a bad, offensive joke and graffiti is always such a refined medium of expression. Bathroom stalls are where the next generation of philosophers cut their teeth.
What was that old USEnet saying? Something like: “When one person writes something stupid, he is a idiot. When five people respond, they become the idiots.” I guess that’s something each person has to learn for themselves.
“But it happens all the time – we had to fake this one just to prove it…”
– sorry.
A case of #BlackLiesMatter?
As a commenter said over there: “Black Lies Matter”.
I have yet to a single example of a mixed race individual identifying as white.
There must be some who do.
Typo….to “see”.
There seems to be a lot of this “making it up to prove how racist this place is” going on.
Of course, this was a ‘hate crime’. It was intended to incite hatred of white people.
… if you reward self-involvement and psychodrama with attention, status, leverage and resources, then self-involvement and psychodrama will inevitably ensue …
Although he was referring to state benefits at the time, I think Theodore Dalrymple’s coinage “parasitic entrepreneurialism” or “entrepreneurial parasitism” could, with surprisingly little adjustment needed, be applied here, too.

Broadly related: this justifiably indignant response to things like this.
Also this.
Off topic: Ken Livingstone’s car crash interview. It’s priceless.

Ken Livingstone’s car crash interview.
Oh dear me. The last I heard, Mr Livingstone was still hiding in a disabled toilet with a crowd of journalists outside shouting questions about Hitler. Which, I have to confess, is quite a pleasing image.
That SU flyer is remarkable for a number of reasons. I can’t imagine college students writing something like, “…claimed they must of been the ones to draw it.” That’s not quoting someone speaking — which could conceivably explain the “of / have” mistake — that’s an actual comment from the author.
the “of / have” mistake
Actually, I think it’s remarkably common among a subset of students. And the USA Today contributor, Ms Emily Chappell, a Penn State alumna, doesn’t seem aware of the distinction between ‘hung’ and ‘hanged’, a mistake I corrected for the post above.
Livingstone claims never to have heard an anti-semitic remark in the Labour Party in 47 years. I find that somewhat dubious.
There seems to be a lot of this “making it up to prove how racist this place is” going on.
Absolutely, and much to the benefit of the hustlers scamming students with Angry Studies courses.
And this is the larger context to consider, in that many students are being taught that not being overly interested in a person’s race is itself damning evidence of racism. This conceit is now central to the vast majority of Angry Studies courses and so-called “diversity” and “anti-racism” workshops, many of which are now mandatory.
And so students are being told, quite emphatically, that “to ignore race is to be more racist than to acknowledge race,” and that this phantom “neo-racism” must be sniffed out and denounced by all righteous beings. The same students are being told that “perception is everything,” i.e., sufficient proof of racial malice, that they should “trust their guts” and be suspicious, indeed dismissive, of due process and expectations of evidence.
Inevitably, the young and credulous are being steered into a realm of cultivated paranoia, and thereby creating a climate ripe for exploitation.
I read this quote from the film version of High Fidelity this afternoon on another forum, and it seems apt:
“I’ve been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I’ve come to the conclusion that my guts have shit for brains.”
The last I heard, Mr Livingstone was still hiding in a disabled toilet with a crowd of journalists outside shouting questions about Hitler.
Has he flushed himself yet?
College administrators seem to be afflicted with a form of Stockholm Syndrome
Forgive me but this is an OCD sharing affliction that I have when seeing the word “perception”…
The same students are being told that “perception is everything,”
As I was once told by a Ivy League trained psychiatrist during a marriage counseling session 20-25 years ago, “Perception IS reality”. If doctors with real, legitimate “doctor” degrees from major, major universities have spouted this logistical, solipsistic nonsense why would we expect students a quarter century down the road to think any differently?
Blackwell Library sounds kinda racist. Just sayin’.
Inevitably, the young and credulous are being steered into a realm of cultivated paranoia, and thereby creating a climate ripe for exploitation.
The paranoia ultimately goes both ways. Your average white student soon realizes that unless s/he acknowledges and celebrates these designated victim identities, while at the same time debasing himself for merely existing, s/he must be extremely wary of every social interaction in order to merely survive, graduate and move on with his/her life. Of course, given the rhetoric of these grievance studies people, that paranoia is justified.
Though come to think of it, it’s not paranoia if people really are out to get you.
So some racist white people scribbles some hateful stuff on a dry-erase board and we get angry because we need more diversity… turns out the racist white people were black and we need more diversity, because it’s sad that somebody would do something like that isn’t it.
It’s a win-win, only they get all the wins.
his/her
You can just say “his”. Women, white or otherwise, can always claim victimhood. Plus, the masculine pronoun is the correct third-person singular when sex is not known or not specified. Sexist I know, forcing men to share our pronoun while women have the privilege of their own, exclusive pronoun, but we soldier on!
I have yet to a single example of a mixed race individual identifying as white.
There must be some who do.
Sure there are, but you tend not to notice them because they don’t make a big deal of it.
I live in New Zealand, where there is extensive inter-marriage between the European and Maori, and has been for some time. As a result there is a large number of people with a sixteenth, eighth or quarter Maori blood.
It is interesting to see how different people express that fraction. I once had a teaching union rep say he would never wear a tie, because it went against his Maori heritage. Looking at him, I would have said he was one-eighth at most. In that room there would have been people with his much Maori blood who regarded themselves not enough Maori to matter. And Maori who would quite happily wear a tie, for that matter.
It’s common to see students who only turn Maori when the University scholarship applications time arrives. You didn’t know they had any Maori in them at all until that time, and afterwards they will identify primarily as White (inasmuch as that means anything much in NZ).
New Zealand also has loads and loads of people of Indian and Chinese ancestry who are effectively 100% white. Nothing in their lives is non-White — they don’t eat Indian/Chinese food, can’t speak anything but English, play rugby, have mostly White friends etc.
If it weren’t for the hoaxes, there wouldn’t be any hate crime. The fact that a type of offense can be so easily used to deceive people ought to be a clue that it doesn’t merit being subject to legal sanction. Hate crime laws are merely a mechanism for the Left to punish their enemies in any case.
From Australia, all hail the mighty Yolngu warrior who takes time out of his busy schedule hunting goana and witchetty grubs to rail against the vicious racism faced by the indigenes.
It’s as if university administrators and faculty can’t quite understand…
The psychodrama increases the need for more administrators, and it provides faculty with Ever More Compliant disciples.
They understand it plenty — and they like it.
What was that old USEnet saying? Something like: “When one person writes something stupid, he is a idiot. When five people respond, they become the idiots.”
And if 25 people respond to the response, it’s AOL!
Trevor’s Aussie link above is unintentionally very funny. Ok, mildly amusing.
“Asian and Aboriginal men are usually at, or come close to, the bottom,’ he says.”
Awkward. (I am 14, what can I say?)
But this: “Mangatjay told SBS that he has been called a ‘petrol s******’, ‘filthy’ and a ‘wog a** c***’, as he is also part Greek.”
Assuming we can decipher all the asterisks, he is those asterisks because (in his own frigging words) “he is also part Greek”?
Racist! Arrest him! Denounce him!

Yet another example of “social justice” as a façade, a fig-leaf, for being a vain and obnoxious little shit.

We’ve got our own here in the US, too. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D, 1/32 Indian Nation) is probably the best known.

Not to forget Professor Ward ‘Chickens coming home to roost’ Churchill.
And returning to Australia, the island of Tasmania now hosts a healthy population of aborigines, previously believed to have become extinct in 1876 upon the death of Truganini, although they tend to be oddly pallid.
“Let’s just call it Aggravated Boisterousness With Intent to Commit Hijinks.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D, 1/32 Indian Nation)
Except that “1/32” isn’t even true.
The same students are being told that “perception is everything,”
Until a white student says he perceives what the blacks are doing in, say, screaming at people for wearing the “wrong” headphones to be racist bullying. Then perception will suddenly, magically, cease to matter.
Yet another example of “social justice” as a façade, a fig-leaf, for being a vain and obnoxious little shit.
99% likely the story is a hoax.
99% likely the story is a hoax.
Why so? Have I missed something? It appears to have been posted by Mr Qwabe on his own Facebook page. Unless you mean a hoax in the sense that he’s bullshitting. Which is to say, trying to impress his peers with a tall tale, a boast of what he imagines righteousness to be. In which case, it would hardly indicate great personal charm.
David, I think it’s a hoax in that sense of a bullshit story. A waitress and her male colleague crying? It just gives the poster a chance to look like a successful bully, like he thinks he should be.
It just gives the poster a chance to look like a successful bully, like he thinks he should be.
Yes, that does seem to be the most likely scenario. Again, a vain and obnoxious little shit.
It doesn’t help that I was misreading the post to think that the waitress wrote the note, as if she’s know enough to want back the land that Mugabe and his cronies confiscated.
But I don’t think the tears are real either.
But I don’t think the tears are real either.
I suppose you have to ask what kind of person thinks a story like that makes them look good.
I’m sure the waitress took it in stride, as blacks are notoriously poor tippers.
Angry Studies courses.
I like this, David. Do you mind if I start using it?
Do you mind if I start using it?
Oh, I’m pretty sure I first heard it somewhere else.

It’s called “passing”. In any case, it was pretty much white people who established the “one-drop” rule, and considered all mixed-bloods not white. In a predominantly white society, any non-whiteness becomes a distinction – to be disclaimed, or embraced, or endured. I’m not sure how, in the context of American history, a visible quadroon, say, could “identify as white” without raising eyebrows, regardless of how the person himself felt. And in predominantly white societies, people don’t generally “identify as white” in a positive way. White is the default, and doesn’t need to be stated.
In the colonial era, people with even a trace of white ancestry often identified with it; in a non-white milieu it could be a distinction. In Kipling’s short story “His Chance in Life”, an Indian telegraph clerk with a trace of Portuguese ancestry thinks of himself as white, and in a moment of crisis assumes the mantle of a “sahib” to put down a riot.
‘Miss Bingo Wings’
My apologies for revisiting this train wreck, but Trigglypuff, as she has become known, has become a meme.
The first is interesting as we learn from her own words she is both empathetic, and loves intellectual conversations. You have to read the rest to get what a scatter-brained, buzz word bingo, self-stereotype of a leftist she has made herself.
we learn from her own words she is both empathetic, and loves intellectual conversations.
That would explain the barrage of screeched fuck yous and the agitated arm-flapping. “Social justice” devotees do seem awfully keen to publicly and repeatedly define themselves, thereby letting us know how pious and superior they are.

Speaking of which, if you flip through the memes, she says she prefers cis-man, but wants to try girls (her word), but also describes herself as “queer”.
I am thinking amongst these types, aside from giving oneself victim status, declaring oneself “queer” has become something of a fashion statement.
. . . she says she prefers cis-man, but wants to try girls . . .
Ehn, a nice lemon pepper sauce, mebbe something with garlic . . . ?
