Hmmm. Which one is the sugar plum fairy?
Sandwich knife?
Shut up and take my money!
Folding clothes by hand is *so* quaint!

A 25-minute medieval B-feature called Black Angel.
Democracy has failed.
And finally, via Ted, an underground bee mishap of note.
A cardboard box full of bees. On the Underground. What could go wrong?
Folding clothes by hand is *so* quaint!
Made my day.
Bloke + monotonous repetitive task => machinery
What could go wrong?
And yet the gentleman thought that kicking the aforementioned cardboard box – a box full of bees – would somehow improve the situation and validate his cunning.
The gods, they mock us.
Chinese crowd shots … wow, I’d hate to be Chinese.
But it’s heartening to see one of the schoolchildren in photo no.10 apparently pushing over the kid in front. Be that guy!
J.S Bach and Sky Sharks. David, you’ve just made my day.
B.B. King, RIP.
The big questions.
The big questions.
Heh.
Re Bees…You would think that at least one benefit of living in, or having survived, a communist/totalitarian (or semi-totalitarian) society would be that the kind thoughts like “I’ll just bring this of bees on the subway” would have been shall we say…expunged. But then, I just learned the term “peasant uncle” from this story. Some people exist to make a monkey out of Darwin.

Actually, what comes to mind more is when in a more normal society, a regular thought would—or could—be; Hmmm. When I am thinking for myself, assessing for myself if I should do something, and considering the consequences, should I do Such?
If The State is to do the thinking for the masses, then why think?
Regarding . . .
Ooops. For the above comment.
Ooops.
As a child I knew the future would be thrilling and full of wonders.
Re: Regarding/Oops…I laughed until I thought, what with my bad back and aging, I might be needing that device in a decade or two. If they want to sell the things, they ought to show an older person using it. There’s a bigger market there than you might think.
Tim Blair is still marvelling at the talents of Australia’s taxpayer-funded artists.
From one of the links in Blair’s piece:
As she said, this is humanity’s most democratic act: from royalty and supermodels to politicians or the tiniest newborn baby, we all participate in this necessary biological function. ‘’Shit has a great truth to it,’’ she said. (Emphasis added)
“In excremento veritas,” I suppose.
Re: Oops & As a child I knew the future would be thrilling and full of wonders
Why haven’t we got dressing machines yet?
Chinese crowd pics #25 the women’s militia in 1960’s era white boots and short skirts … some uniform designer has spent too much time watching early James Bond films…
That Sandwich Knife is the best thing since …. oh, forget it
‘Sky Sharks’.
Looks like utter crap.
This, on the other hand, is sheer genius:

Blimey. I’m… lost for words.
‘Blimey. I’m… lost for words’.
It’s the narration by the hyperactive 10 year old that sells it to me. Incidentally, there’s more on Wakaliwood and its founder, Isaac Nabwana, here:
http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/the-best-of-the-best-movies-0000601-v22n3
I know that Gareth Evans and Robert Rodriguez had bigger budgets, but they too turned out action films on a fraction of the sum used by Hollywood. So I wonder what Nabwana could do if he was given US$200,000 to spend on a production rather than $200.
The ‘Vice’ story also refers to the efforts by Nabwana’s American collaborator, Alan Hofmanis, to try and raise the founder of Ramon Production Films (RPF) in the ‘States. One organiser of a film festival told Hofmanis that Nabwana needed to make ‘another ‘Bicycle Thief”.
Notice not only the implicit assumption that RPF was Hofmanis’ own studio (and not Nabwana), but it was somehow the duty of a Ugandan film maker to be inspired by 1940s Italian neorealism, and not Chuck Norris, and that he should be churning out poverty porn for Western arthouse audiences to admire and to feel smug about having seen.
The latest left-wing attempt to try and pretend the election result doesn’t apply to them: a petition to “Allow the north of England to secede from the UK & join Scotland”.

(Bonus bit of bad-loserism – they’re also pretending the result of the Scottish independence referendum doesn’t count.)
And joining R Sherman in saluting the passing of BB King. Here’s one from when he was younger and could still sing, and I mean really sing.

‘The latest left-wing attempt to try and pretend the election result doesn’t apply to them: a petition to “Allow the north of England to secede from the UK & join Scotland”‘.
I’ve seen this. I do wonder what it is about the SNP’s policies (enacted in Scotland) that the signatories found so tempting.
Was it the compulsory appointment of a ‘state guardian’ for all children, who will oversee their upbringing until they’re 18?
Was it the arming of the police for routine patrolling?
Was it the intention to lower corporation tax in an independent Scotland so that it would be below that of the RUK.
Was it the fact that behind all the rhetoric the Scottish government is as keen on PFIs and franchising out public services as Westminster (which includes the ScotRail franchise awarded to the Dutch firm Abellio)?
Was it the butt-snorkelling of such heroes of the left as Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch (the Scottish ‘Sun’ is backing the SNP)?
Or was it the fact that the people who signed the petition are a bunch of fucking cretins?
sackcloth and ashes: “Was it the compulsory appointment of a ‘state guardian’ for all children, who will oversee their upbringing until they’re 18?”
Wasn’t aware of this. I thought New Labour’s proposed “vetting and barring” scheme was bad, but this looks frankly terrifying.
This, on the other hand, is sheer genius:
Hmmm. Once wonders if a hyperactive screaming kid could have saved Disney from losing mebbe one to two hundred million dollars . . .
When talking to a feminist is a thankless task.
I think PootBlog nails the dynamic.
I think PootBlog nails the dynamic.
That. In big bold letters. 😉
That. In big bold letters. 😉
And it’s a common dynamic, practically a default. See, for instance, this, which was immediately followed by this. (Taken from here.)
Note the tone of the exchange with the unfortunate Mr Jackson. Despite his civility and attempts to find common ground, he’s quickly accused of various sins – that his disagreement is complicity, that he feels “entitled” (though to what isn’t clear), that he’s “a cissexist piece of shit” – and when he asks for evidence, he’s told, rather haughtily, to “Google it.” Not only is he a sinner – he just is, okay – but he’s a sinner who doesn’t keep up with the latest language of victimology. Cue OUTRAGE LEVEL TEN.
If you dare to suggest, politely, that the alleged oppression of middle-class female students is questionable or, if it exists, not your fault personally, as an individual – say, because it isn’t – then by feminist logic it is your fault. (Note that the feminist scold in question, Sarah M, says the ‘M’ stands for ‘misandry’. Because misandry is cool, you see.) And so disagreement, even doubt, is denounced as wickedness, proof of guilt. Not deferring to the gathered she-tribe and their cloud of self-righteousness is seized on as proof of one’s moral complicity and intent to oppress.
And then the brave little warriors attempt to dominate Mr Jackson with browbeating, scolding and personal abuse. Such is the kindness in their brave little hearts.
As a child I knew the future would be thrilling and full of wonders.
I think a 3D image of an unborn child is pretty wonderful. Thanks for it. And Wallace invented a dressing machine as I recall in The Wrong Trousers.
20? … 13!
