Because some things bear repeating, a few items from the archives:
On the Guardian‘s idea of debate, and the Greens in power.
Not to mention the endless manufactured congestion and astronomical parking fees, due to the council’s hostility to car ownership; the loss of tourism revenue as a direct result of these policies; countless failures to maintain simple infrastructure; and pavements overgrown with weeds to a degree that endangered the elderly and called to mind some dystopian science fiction.
And what every voter wants is a city councillor laughing at their frustration when trying to do formerly simple things. A frustration entirely the fault of said councillor’s own party and their bizarre policies. In this case, a policy based on a belief that when people go to the local dump – sorry, recycling centre – they do so by bicycle.
Readers are welcome to picture Brighton residents making three-mile journeys by pedal bike with old fridges and unwanted microwaves strapped to their backs.
The travails of the modern cross-dressing man.
The Humiliations Will Continue Until Morale Improves.
You will apologise, in writing, for being competent and white.
But no, dear reader. How foolish you’ve been.
Apparently, these things constitute, not a basis for workplace success, but merely of “success in white male terms.” Which, we’re told, not only “limits white males’ ability to hear and understand others” and “dampens their curiosity,” but is also “devastating” to “people of colour, gays/lesbians, women, and non-Christians.”
You see, expectations of competence, “hard work” – and a concern for whether actions actually produce the desired result – these things are problematic and to be viewed with suspicion, and ultimately undermined. On grounds that they cause “people of colour” to “feel they are living out of context with who they really are.”
Busty scholar announces new position.
For those craving more, this is a pretty good place to start.
Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.

Flashback!
Laughed, not sorry. *encouraging ping*
And yet I’ve been asked why I used the word pathology in the banner. As if I might be overstating the matter or being terribly unfair.
Quite.
Bless you, sir. May your Amazon delivery be only two stops away (except when you’re at the checkout in the supermarket halfway across town).
Bitches be crazy.
My latest amusement is following the bizarre conspiracy theories of female armchair detectives regarding the trial of Lindsay Clancy.
The story behind it is not funny – in 2023, Lindsay asked her husband to go out to pickup takeout for dinner and while he was gone, she strangled their three young children, including an infant, then tried to kill herself by throwing herself out a 2nd story window, consequently paralyzing herself.
Lindsay has stipulated that she did, indeed, kill the children and her defense rests on postpartum psychosis, aggravated by doctors over-prescribing various drugs for her (she has a history of mental issues for which she sought treatment).
But that’s not good enough for these woman, many of whom have made donations to Lindsay’s defense fund, now totaling over $800k. You see, it wasn’t Lindsay – it was Patrick, her husband, who actually killed the children. Or it was a “Lindsay double” whom they claim was Patrick’s second wife, whom he married just this past April. Or that he drove to the restaurant to get the food but ran home after consuming Skittles to give him that energy boost to get there, kill the kids, frame the wife, run back, and arrive home to “find” Lindsay on the lawn, paralyzed.
These are the same women who fall in love with murderers on death row, aren’t they? Lawyers need an assistant during the voir dire of any trial to quickly check to see if any prospective female juror has a Tik Tok to show she’s incapable of rational, impartial thought.
Bringing new meaning to “Madam Minister”.
Because those are the ones they want on the jury.
Snort.
I should add that in recent weeks it seems they’ve made some effort to cast their net further afield. I saw a prospective Restore voter and one more Conservative voter. Though again, it’s all very woolly and genteel. And the gravitational default is still one of left-leaning teachers, left-leaning writers and left-leaning university administrators discussing just how awful and stupid people who aren’t leftwing are.
It’s still very Tamsin and Matilda.
They seem to have an inexhaustible supply of posh, vegan, Green-voting part-time arts producers.
Not, I think, a reflection of the nation as a whole.
Don’t worry. Keep sleeping. It will all work out.
You might have embiggen the video, but the answer is right there.
Sorry, David, but I think I am going to contemplate the morning valley fog, instead.
Wait a minute. I lost out to fog?
Be of good cheer, it was really, really good fog.
[ Doors slams, a vase is smashed. ]
[ Muttering, opens Amazon app. Orders enormous box of fog. ]
No refunds, etc.
Thanks to Amazon and a wife who didn’t quite have the same idea as I did about what “more” meant, I now have a vat containing about three liters of chopped dried parsley sitting in my kitchen.
See how insidious? Just when I thought I was out, I got pulled back in.
[ Unboxes fog, coughing. ]
Band name.
You’ll have to make the mother of all fish pies.
The fog has better hair.
[ Rummages under bar, produces desktop fan. ]
[ Blows store-bought fog towards Ted. ]
Republicans don’t vote is school board elections. Such petty matters are beneath their big, big brains thinking about the real important stuff. Stuff the have far less influence over.
In the Los Angeles mayoral election, the current incumbent is a self admitted communist, and the leading contender is an ecologist.
You may remember the city burning to the ground in an epic fire that killed 30 people and burned down 15,000 houses. Less than 50 houses have been rebuilt; all the others have not been given city approval to yet.
So there are tens of thousands more homeless, there are squatter camps everywhere, fentanyl zombies walk the streets and attack children in parks routinely, crime is so rampant that historic shopping centers have gone vacant, and in pharmacies and stores selling essentials, shoplifting is so rampant that all of the goods for sale are behind locked glass, requiring a store employee to unlock them to be sold.
So what is the highest priority for the mayoral candidates? Bike lanes. That’s the mindset of the green voter.
I’m just going to leave this here, I think.
Oh, and this one isn’t entirely irrelevant.
Geez, in case you missed it … This is the woman who would be President about the man she was with for 10+ years.
How can you carry anything big (most of the stuff you take to the tip) on a bicycle? How are these people real?
But but but “No More Kings”, right?
The Green councillor in question, Sarah Nield, boasted of walking to the tip with “three big bags of stuff,” while tweeting about how amused she was by the frustration of local residents in cars – residents who presumably had to transport larger, heavier items. As one generally does.
For most people, transporting items to the tip – unwanted wardrobes, sinks, kitchen appliances, rolls of carpet, etc – is impossible without a car. But the Greens restricted car access to the tip in favour of a cycle lane. Because fifty-year-old ladies can just strap that old washing machine onto their backs.
Obviously.
So, yes, good question. How the fuck are these people real?
Tonight we shall be rewatching the HBO series Rome.
How the fuck are these people real?
Added: Dare not tell them about London Bridge.

Reheated indeed.
Texas?
My twenties were spent in part detecting and separating myself from loonies and fools and ne’er-do-wells. Lots of women and some men who believed in astrology, healing crystals, auras, etc. Dopers and drunks. Rebels against all social norms. Reckless fools. And so on.
Yup.
I hope his next target is armed and knows how to triple-tap.

“Saffron totalitarians.”
David, what would yours look like?
Well, there it is, right there.
It’s not dissonance between one’s sexed body and one’s True Inner Self, but dissonance between reality and fantasy.
Sounds like a job for Pantaleón.
A sense of the artifice, the deceit. The doomed endeavour. Which is why we so often see cross-dressing men whose supposedly innate womanliness is entirely superficial and unconvincing, something seen externally and copied. Pasted on. Often with overtly pornographic connotations.
And the legal indulgence of which, the compelled affirmation, leads to absurdity and the morally grotesque.
Oh, and by the way, the Rome rewatch is quite fun. The scheming, sex and gruesome violence is offset with just the right amount of camp. For instance, casting Lynda Baron as an upscale brothel proprietrix.
Nurse Gladys!
Well, quite.
I do think casting is an underappreciated skill. I mean, Lynda Baron is an improbable choice and yet perfect for the role. And for British viewers familiar with her previous work, it’s something close to hilarious.
