New Neighbours
Brendan O’Neill on life in an age of euphemism:
The footage from Ceuta is extraordinary – throngs of foreigners, mostly men from Morocco, gatecrashed an enclave of the Spanish kingdom. They scaled fences, kicked down gates, colonised the beach. Some punched the air with glee, clearly delighted with their successful storming of Spanish territory.
An assault. All cheered on by ladies of a certain kind.
Says Mr O’Neill,
At which point, the reliably ludicrous LBC presenter James O’Brien comes to mind.
With all of the earnestness he could conjure, Mr O’Brien described the intruders as akin to “climate refugees… moving from inhabitable to habitable,” before referring to Ceuta as “nowhere near as inhospitable” as Morocco. Despite Ceuta’s climate being indistinguishable from, say, Tangier or Tétouan.
“There was something about the footage that shook me to my core,” said he. Though the scenes of mass invasion and subsequent looting and disorder – described as a “wave of humanity” – were much less of a concern to Mr O’Brien than the prospect of some onlookers, and perhaps quite a few local residents, regarding the violation as less than ideal.
And clearly, these immensely vibrant young men, overwhelmingly of fighting age and remarkably unencumbered by women or identifying documents, are merely using other people’s cars to start fires of neighbourliness. Arson being the universal language of warm feelings.
It’s all one big expression of gratitude. Of common humanity. The ennobling effects of which can be found with little effort.
Because sharing and caring, right?
And when the uninvited newcomers swarming through your streets start desecrating your ancestors’ graves while hurling rocks at you, it’s just a sign that they want to get to know you better.
I’m reminded of the scene in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which Zaphod Beeblebrox visits the headquarters of the eponymous publication, which is under attack, being bombarded from orbit. Despite the thunderous explosions, he encounters obliviousness. In disbelief, and trying to be heard over the explosions, he shouts, “Do you know your building’s being bombed?!”
As a summary of our times, and in more ways than one, it does have a certain resonance.
Update, via the comments:
Chow Bag quotes this,
And replies,
Well, setting aside Mr O’Brien’s limited grasp of the Mediterranean climate, he did bring into relief one of the key ideological differences of our time, one that blurs into fantasy and psychodrama.
I mean, if you can watch the footage of the invasion and the almost immediate looting, arson, assaults, etc., and feel – or pretend to feel – an urge to indulge the invaders, to side with them over the people whose neighbourhoods, homes and businesses are being trashed and plundered, that’s… quite something.
It’s a line that divides, and in a significant way. It does suggest a rather fundamental incompatibility.

From Ms Rowling’s replies,
Heh. And a pinhead-dance ensues.
But the vehement hostility towards women who’d rather not pretend, Rowling included, is hard to miss. With endless, vivid descriptions of what will happen to them, etc.
Because when cross-dressing men with obvious mental health problems start detailing the ways in which they’d happily assault or even murder women who demur, this is an obvious reason to allow those same cross-dressing, mentally ill men into women’s spaces. Where women might demur.

Rooftop AC’s are more expensive to install and maintain, but they are much less vulnerable to theft and vandalism.
“what could possibly go wrong”–the topless woman is wearing a headscarf. She would be soooo welcome in Gaza, for about 5 minutes until she was raped.
Unless that is a man with manboobs–oh, hell, who can tell anymore?
Yep. Everything is fine in Ceuta. Nothing to be seen there. Moving right along..
Added: I verified that this was real and from Ceuta with grok, partly because I wanted to kinda question grok’s assessment of the situation. Anyway, in the “emotional intelligence” department, as we were just discussing EI recently, grok said that Nick was crying. After I questioned that, grok did a reassessment and admitted that Nick wasn’t crying. Silly of me to expect EI from AI, but…whatever…
The excuse on that cages story…the copium…smdh…
Yes. Just like with a cute, cuddly widdle puppy dog!
Thing I learned today: Stubentiger
Store bought, because “trans”women are real women, as if the hour glass figure wasn’t convincing enough..
BS. I have both, actually three, including the pines, it is the damn vines that are the problem. Dig them up, poison them, and three will come back. Oh well,, at least it is not kudzu.
A friend had that leaf problem.
Stuben is the plural of Stube as in Weinstube which in my finest restaurant German means Wine Bar or Lounge (not that I have ever been in one, of course). Lounge tiger is better on a couple of levels.
Also Steuben Tiger.
NHS: Best in the world. Bonus bestness: unqualified African immigrant staff
Simon Webb has discussed this: African staff who cannot understand English, who are unqualified, and who falsify their records. You know, without all those welfare-gobbling unassimilating immigrants, the UK would need fewer healthcare workers.
I see The Guardian is being themselves again.
If at all possible, locate your business far away from blacks.
For every violent black criminal arrested, there are ten blacks calling him a victim.
Saw that earlier. It’s a two-fer: It’s the Guardian, and the writer is black. Two shite sources for the price of one.
Actually it was an invasion, deliberately staged by the Moroccan government, because Sánchez pissed them off.
Apparently, the Moroccan government spread a rumor that the gates to Ceuta were open and told everyone ollie-ollie-in-come-free. Basically a flash-mob wielded against Spain because of an old conflict with Algeria.
So they’re not even immigrants at all.
A sentence dense with assumptions that are sweeping, somewhat dubious and never unteased. Evidence being unnecessary, it seems. Very Guardian.
And I see that Mr Bryant writes pretty much the same article every time.
