Poison Is Queen
And in questionable circumstances news:
A Utah woman was convicted on Monday of aggravated murder after poisoning her husband with fentanyl and then self-publishing a children’s book about coping with grief.
Today’s word is ballsy.
Prosecutors said [Kouri Richins] was $4.5m in debt and falsely believed that when her husband died, she would inherit his estate worth more than $4m. They also said she was planning a future with another man she was seeing on the side.
Richins was also convicted of other felonies, including an attempted murder charge in what authorities alleged was another effort to poison her husband weeks earlier on Valentine’s Day with a fentanyl-laced sandwich that made him black out.
Apparently, the house cleaner was scoring the pills.
The internet search history from Richins’ phone included “what is a lethal.dose.of.fetanayl,” “luxury prisons for the rich America” and “if someone is poisned (sic) what does it go down on the death certificate as,” a digital forensic analyst testified.
Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.

Now she can write one about coping with prison.
Just going to leave this here.
For no reason whatsoever.
Ballsy but a bit thick.
Livia would never have left an internet search history.
They only catch the incompetent ones…
I mean, it’s practically, “Dear Internet, how do I get away with murdering my husband? Thanks in advance, Kouri.”
I’m curious about that $4.5 million in debt. Was it directly hers or theirs or was it attached to some company she owned? How was it leveraged/structured? Who was it owed to? How does someone this incompetent acquire that much debt? Did her husband know about it? Of course it being a Guardian article no one would think to ask such questions.
To be fair it looks like she was coping really well.
I’m curious about that $4.5 million in debt.
As am I. You’d think her husband might . . . notice that something was amiss in his wife’s life.
Bet the bar snacks are looking pretty good right now.

There’s a little more on the story here. Including additional search-history gaffes.
From There’s a little more on the story:
Suppose this means she took out life insurance on him without his knowledge? Every so often I see this and am amazed that such a thing can still be done. It seems that should at least require a notary public signature, in which case how did that happen? Though I do seem to recall signing off on life insurance policies my employer(s?) took out on me without one. Different situation but?
Wasn’t the legal definition of chutzpah “a man who murders his parents and then pleads the court for clemency because he’s an orphan”?
You’d think someone would have handed her the revised script.
Virginia voters are shocked to find out elections have consequences.
You can’t turn the lights down low enough for that to happen.

I’m guessing those are the non-specific youths we hear so much about.
As best I recall, even 30 years ago I was hearing that “unruly” black kids were making Daytona Beach even less attractive than it already was.

Best way to poach smoked haddock, really.
I sometimes forget I’m surrounded by savages.
Also in Texas, a bold move sure to win voters.
Aside from there not being a reason to poach a fish ever, let alone a smoked one as it rather defeats the point of smoking, calling those not from the land of jellied eels and stargazy pie “savages” is rather a failure of introspection.
Mostly to try the link again but…Billy Jean works much better as an Irish folk song. But that’s just my NSHO.
ok…worked that time. I have no idea how anything works anymore.

The trouble with stereotypes, is that they are true…
I can get this shabby treatment at home, you know.

On charities, over at Samizdata.
Remember when the definition of chutzpah was “murdering your parents, and asking the court to be lenient because you’re an orphan” was considered to be a caricature, not a real-life example?
Well of course, since you blog from home.
We…well mostly my wife but me as well,, used to give to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Then we got word that they supported gender transition for children. Just to be clear and ensure it wasn’t a rumor, I would ask for clarification on that whenever their adverts would show up in my FB feed. Never got an answer. After half dozen or so times asking, I haven’t seen their adverts for a couple weeks. Odd that.
That’s virtually every charity that I ever gave money to.

I have so much to learn. And pillow-fights, I’m assuming.

Yes, that was really pushing me over the edge.
VA and NYC voters: to be fair, not that long ago you could count on the verbiage of candidates to be mostly verbiage, and not literally what they plan to do (NYC) or the opposite of what they plan to do (VA). That is, gov did not go around doing crazy shit most of the time 30 yrs ago, so people got used to that. Sadly, crazy seems to be very much in style today.
