The Importance Of Plumbing
A tale of tax, utopia, and human faeces:
The fragrant sentiments above, mouthed by Danish couple Flemming Hansen and Mette Helbæk, concern their creation, in Sweden, of a “forest resort” named Stedsans, one met with much acclaim:
Dish magazine hailed the project as “Seasonal, sustainable, organic, artisanal, waste-free, foraged.” While readers of EasyJet Traveller magazine were told that the resort is “A new way of living that’s as sustainable as it is delicious.”
For Ms Helbæk and Mr Hansen, the name of the resort, which is Danish for “sense of place,” reflects “which direction we need to go as a society.” The couple, who refer to themselves as “soul-driven entrepreneurs,” shared their vision:
All terribly inspiring. Scenes of this idyll can be savoured here.
However,
The output of those sixteen charming cottages, one assumes. I’ll let any passing enthusiasts of arithmetic have fun with that one.
Ah yes. “A way of living that respects all forms of life.” Conjured into being by “soul-driven entrepreneurs.”
According to an investigation by Dagens Nyheter and Politiken, Ms Helbæk and Mr Hansen had left Denmark owing “millions of kroner in debt to Danish tax authorities,” before moving to Sweden, where they accumulated further tax debt of six million SEK.
Sustainability, baby.
You may now resume your humdrum, unenlightened, non-artisanal lives.

Badumtish!
Ten barrels per cottage? How big were the barrels?
Heh. Hard to say for sure. The one aerial photo I’ve found suggests they were pretty much what you’d expect. Which is to say, quite hefty.
In other news, I now have an image file named Barrels of Human Faeces.
So there’s that.

You’re not tempted by the foraged food, i.e., carrots and leaves, the unheated rooms, the lack of running water, or the whole shitting-in-a-barrel thing?
Get you and your fancy ways.
Scandinavians already had access to what’s pleasant, grounding, spiritually renewing about temporarily living close to nature. Ordinary middle- and even working-class Swedes had allotments, lakeside vacation huts, makeshift saunas that they’d built with their hockey buddies. As they were packing their Volvos for the weekend with sanitary products and tinned food they didn’t agonize that this was an economic input from The Man. As they intuitively followed Scandinavian discipline in cleaning up after themselves, lowering their voices after sundown, not monopolizing the amenities, they didn’t agonize over whether this discipline might be oppressive to non-Scandinavians and therefore racist. How can we invite the entire world to this little thing that works for us, how can we apply purist obsessive thinking to make it a Utopia – you can’t, you stupid Swedes, you can only ruin it for yourselves. Given that sustainable management of outhouses was common knowledge to your grandparents, you’re throwing away ancestral wisdom faster than you’re recovering it.
Dressed-up potting sheds don’t really evoke a sense of “magical” and “enchanting luxury.”
Maybe that’s just me.
Guatemala best make preparations.
There’s only so much you can do with three scatter cushions and the word rustic.
Bet those bar snacks are looking pretty good right now.
Is it possible that there is no extradition agreement with Guatemala?
Is hollandaise supposed to move?
Betcha they were charging hefty fees for those hyper-rustic cabins.

Need a bigger rug.
Not working.
Per the previous and many other posts: the camel’s nose under the tent was I believe “hate crimes”, designed to target in the US the KKK burning crosses on people’s lawns and bombing black churches. Ok, sort of. But then it morphed into any criticism of blacks and then further into even disapproving of murderers and rapists, lest they “feel bad”. Slippery slopes, how do they work?
I have an aeration system for one building and a septic system for another on my farm. Isn’t that “sustainable?”
But installing septic systems has a higher upfront cost than filling barrels of human waste, one presumes, especially if one plans on absconding before the consequences must be dealt with.
Progressive causes are a perfect haven for predators, as they emphasize expressed intentions rather than real-world results. Youi need only mouth the right mantras, and like Harry Potter encantations, doors open.
Guatemala has its own shit to deal with.

Point of clarity, throbbing is technically not moving. Though you could make an argument for pulsing. But that’s not what I’m seeing.
[ Loads blowpipe, curare-tipped dart whistles through air. ]
Cloudbuster:
You should consider adding a biogas digester ahead of the septic system. You get free gas and the, uh, material has been predigested.
Can also accept vegetable and animal wastes.
Septic systems are great for the suburbs, but if you have an even semi-working farm, digester effluent is an excellent fertilizer. for pond or land agriculture. Foolish to just let it leach away.
Anything labeled ‘organic’ or ‘sustainable’ should be assumed to be a scam and avoided.
Green Science is neither.
Only 5 years, but will be out in 13 months. For a random attack that left a woman with brain damage.
“Prosecutors said Diamond had 21 criminal convictions in Ohio since 2011.”
He should get a choice between natural life at hard labor, or death.
And as for the liberals who prevent proper punishment of career criminals, well….
Or… not.
So no running water, no toilets, no heating… and the food is carrots with hollandaise…
F*cking hell.
Dog pic, with dogwoods.
Well, indeed. Apparently the carrots-and-leaves combo was a staple, a culinary highlight, and wheeled out frequently. Because you’d never tire of that.
I don’t wish to sound overly picky or impossibly high-maintenance, but for £900 a night I’d be hoping for luxuries like plumbing or the prospect of heat.
Winning wars is now elitist. Update your notes appropriately.
Then the left will not resist if Brits wage a cultural and political war against them?
They’ll resist in an inclusive, equalitarian, and diverse fashion.
Listen, pal. That food was festooned with NASTURTIUMS, which have edible flowers and leaves.
You don’t get classier than that.
Previous post updated. Because I know some of you live to see your names in print.
I suppose it fits the wider theme. Of things being a loose approximation of what is claimed. And so, just as unheated fishing huts with no plumbing or sanitation are framed as “luxury,” seemingly random objects on a plate are hailed as meals, as “artisanal” and “delicious.”
Is this a story about good intentions gone awry? Or was it a hostile anti-social act to begin with?
Most legislation purporting to guarantee equality is hostile and anti-social.
It’s both good intentions with no thought of possible consequences as well as jurists so insulated from reality as to be dangerous.
Well, you’ve seen the kinds of people to whom such things most strongly appeal. Which, I suspect, may steer one to an answer.
Still, you have to marvel at the underlying conceit – that women should – just should – be paid every bit as much regardless of what it is they choose to do, and regardless of their activity’s economic value, as determined by, among other things, hours and labour scarcity.
I’m guessing few of the ladies in question considered taking up road digging or bin hauling to get the corresponding benefits.
See previous post.
And not entirely unrelated, this:
Pretentious sympathy, of course. But still.
Don’t forget the Labour Party, which is responsible for the Equality Act. Claims of good intentions are largely refuted by socialism’s history of failure. And by the evidence that socialists are motivated not by compassion but resentment. (And by lust for power over others.)

Burn-Barrel Latrine:
2-4 seats/half 55 gallon drum. Add 3-4 gallons diesel-mogas mixture. When full, if no LN hires, find luckless offender for extra duty of lighting and stirring the mess. Try to stay upwind of Agent Brown, if unable, sue for exposure.
I suppose that wouldn’t be eco-friendly, though.
Heh.

First novel?
The craziest part of the thread are the replies from feminist women arguing that the judgement was correct.
They can literally see the outcome of a decision that was based on fantasy, abusing poorly-worded legislation/principles and an out-of-touch judge deciding what “Value” certain jobs have, and still they push.
It does have a certain ring to it.
