When Your Colleagues Have Joined A Cult
Maths teacher Paul Rossi shares his experience of “anti-racism training” at a Manhattan high school, during which he questioned the alleged imperative to foreground each student’s racial identity, and questioned the value of racialising human attributes – including the claim that “objectivity” is somehow a characteristic of “white supremacy”:
When my questions were shared outside this forum [a mandatory, racially segregated Zoom meeting], violating the school norm of confidentiality, I was informed by the head of the high school that my philosophical challenges had caused “harm” to students, given that these topics were “life and death matters, about people’s flesh and blood and bone.” I was reprimanded… He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers” and “neurological disturbance in students’ beings and systems.” The school’s director of studies added that my remarks could even constitute harassment.
And then the strange became stranger, one might say sinister.
Update:
Very much related. Or, Knowing That It’s Creepy And Immoral, And Harmful To Children, And Doing It Anyway.
We’ve been here before, of course, on more than one occasion.
The Chinese Cultural Revolution should have been a negative example to the rest of world versus a how-to.
Given the obvious and seemingly endless opportunities for gaslighting and psychological bullying, it should hardly be surprising that such “anti-racism” efforts, and the “equity” industry more generally, attract unpleasant people with unsavoury inclinations.
And yet the surprises keep happening, with some regularity.
Not entirely unrelated.
Note that the “diversity” drones are the ones with lots of assumptions about the habits and characteristics that a black person, every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
Evil.
“objectivity” is somehow a characteristic of “white supremacy”
Is that objectively true or just a subjective opinion?
(Off topic – one for an upcoming Friday)
’ He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers” ..’
Just checking, but did he mean the students here? Or the so called ‘educators’..?
(Off topic – one for an upcoming Friday)
Oh dear, we can’t have that. A disturbing example of white supremacy – not a single black person to be seen anywhere /s
Evil.
I suppose there’s a tendency to want to imagine that things can’t get as twisted and dysfunctional as they often do, not least when leftist psychology is given leverage. Sort of, “No, my children can’t actually be being indoctrinated by obnoxious, preening lunatics…” And this tendency, this reluctance, is an obvious factor in why it does go on, and is going on.
In much the same way, supposedly ‘progressive’ thinking can be so inverted and perverse, so nakedly wrong-headed, that it can be tempting to imagine that one has misheard or misunderstood some justifying subtlety. We are, after all, told, largely by themselves, how much these people care and how terribly clever they are. When in fact what’s happening is every bit as deranged, and deranging, as it seems.
How long will it be in the USA before “blacks only” buses, bars, cinemas, drinking fountains etc are introduced?
He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers”
Lefties project.
created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers”
Literally any dissenting opinion. Next up, an accusation of being unmutual.
my philosophical challenges had caused “harm” to students, given that these topics were “life and death matters, about people’s flesh and blood and bone.”
Fuck. Me.
A few days later, the head of school ordered all high school advisors to read a public reprimand of my conduct out loud to every student in the school.
Fuck. Me.
A recent faculty email chain received enthusiastic support for recommending that we “‘officially’ flag students” who appear “resistant” to the “culture we are trying to establish.”
Fuck. Me.
My own contract for next year requires me to “participate in restorative practices designed by the Office of Community Engagement” … The details of these practices remain unspecified until I agree to sign.
Fuck. Them.
“Who invited her?” department: http://patterico.com/2021/04/13/when-that-one-relative-comes-to-visit-and-dumps-goobers-of-judginess-on-her-loved-ones/
Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute… Clicking the article, I can’t get past the very first sentence…”am a teacher at Grace Church High School in Manhattan”? Grace Church? Grace #$#*% Church? Seriously? Grace Church? Grace? Church? Grace? Not much surprises me anymore and I must say I’m not really surprised by this, per se. Just more fucking disgusted with the idiotic society that I continue to tolerate stewing in for some absurd, stupid reason.
But hey, I’m sure this is not the first time this teacher encountered this kind of nonsense. I am quite sure that there were plenty of opportunities for this teacher to speak up and speak out about the PC culture as it slowly consumed our formerly free, open, and prosperous civilization, began destroying other peoples’ lives and such, but he did nothing. Fuck him. To further Karl’s point but also to my own a few days ago, fuck everybody. Just a society of people getting what they deserve. Some even getting what they asked for.
Oh, and now Zombie Dodge comes in with a link to the King Cuck of All Cucks, Patterico and his sycophants. Whom I despise worse than any leftists. Leftists, to some degrees are too stupid to know what they do. Patterico and his ilk are the traitorous scum who are too smaaaart. Fredo style smart. But smarter. In the Fredo sense.
This is all a joke, right? Solipsism ain’t just a river in Egypt, right?
Grace Church?
As so often, the rot starts among the elites.
“Who invited her?”
From the link: “She can’t expect to be taken seriously, of course.”
That’s bullshit: She can expect to be taken seriously, because there are many more leftists just as twisted as she is. Do the bloggers at Patterico really think that the problem is not nearly as widespread as it is?
But….he’s just teaching…Maths.
What in hell can all that CRT shite have to do with…teaching…maths?
Couldn’t he just have quietly skipped the Gauleiter-session and just got on with teaching…maths?
Do the bloggers at Patterico really think that the problem is not nearly as widespread as it is?
They’re idiots over there. Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them after Cruz lost Indiana to Trump in the primaries. Got banned several times such that I can’t really remember. Chased off/banned most of his regulars, many who ostensibly were friends in some regard, or so it seemed. But Grand Master P was always an over educated idiot long before that. Lawyer scum with no understanding of how things work in the real world. They believe almost religiously in their superior position in society as the Law Givers.
Couldn’t he just have quietly skipped the Gauleiter-session and just got on with teaching…maths?
Either you’re being facetious or you don’t understand how all this works. I presume the former.
Many here just a few years ago expressed satisfaction that the objective superiority of the hard sciences and math would be a bulwark against this insanity. I tried to tell y’all that you were whistling past the graveyard. Some acknowledged this…some didn’t.
I tried to tell y’all that you were whistling past the graveyard. Some acknowledged this…some didn’t.
There certainly was a time when I believed that. World events and longer acquaintance with various people in the STEM fields disabused me of that notion.
They’re idiots over there. Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them…
I used to read that blog, years ago. Not sure if I found it via Volokh or Powerline or Instapundit. After a few years I started visiting less and less often. Did indeed notice a certain arrogance, although my memory of particulars is rather hazy.
…no understanding of how things work in the real world. They believe almost religiously in their superior position in society as the Law Givers.
That seems to be a common human failing, but one that some fields are more prone to than others. University professors, for instance, are particularly susceptible to the disease. Even before WWI German universities were hotbeds of racial supremacist ideology.
every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
I remember one of my fave tv shows of 80s was St. Elsewhere where a young Denzel Washington made his debut. I remember one particular “throw away” line where he has declined, again, to go out dancing with colleagues after work and he mumbles out loud his frustration “why does everyone assume the black guy is a great dancer? I can’t dance.”
the habits and characteristics that a black person, every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
My high school foreign language teacher was black and by current criteria he would be counted as inauthentic: liked classical music, opera, renaissance art, tennis, etc.
I may have read/commented there at some point. I recognize the name because I met Patterico (real name Patrick something) once at a get together for the regulars on the Armed Liberal blog. It was in passing and many years ago, he didn’t strike me strongly either favorably or unfavorably.
Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them…
The rot started even before OrangeManBad. Patrick seemed enamored of Obama and didn’t take criticism of him well and he can brook no dissent from his opinions. He went overboard when Jeff Goldstein defended Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” line.
Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment. SDA had one during the early stages of the pandemic, although it seems to have recovered somewhat.
Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment.

Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment.
Except Little Green Footballs was not conservative. It was, for a time, anti-Islamist, but in every other respect Charles Johnson was a garden variety liberal. (Which is to say, leftist.) But opposing Islamic aggression was enough for most people to classify it as conservative.
The Chinese Cultural Revolution should have been a negative example to the rest of world versus a how-to.
Just like other random ignorant reinventions of or demands to create brand new versions existing institutions (roommates, marriage, cabs, police, absolute monarchs) the people taking these actions are ignorantly following the logical path created by their miseducation.
Very few of them would defend the methods or results of the cultural revolution but they don’t really understand why it happened either. They all know nationalism is bad and white solidarity is bad because they can point to the magic moustache man. But they’ve never thought about the consequences of others’ tribal & racial solidarity or the mechanics of victim/oppressor ideology because they’ve never connected them to any real world results.
These are people who are trained to do things such as identifying privilege, conducting a meeting, finding the potential for offense in anything, or following a building evacuation plan without understanding anything beyond the first order effects. We used to joke about the uselessness of the various ‘studies’ degrees and their lack of earnings potential. We didn’t recognize it as feeding into an obviously growing industry of defining one more item for leadership to manage.
I was discussing a CNN article with some of my colleagues in the public opinion sphere, and was a bit disappointed with the shallow thinking on display all around.
I wound up ranting, “When 90% of pop culture and news media broadcasts relentlessly for four years that Trumpsters are nothing but horrible racist ignorant cousin-humping Russian assets, it shouldn’t be surprising that people would hesitate to tell a stranger on the phone that they like Trump. Doubly so in an era where you can lose your livelihood because some college kid finds an off-color Tweet you wrote seven years previous and shares it with everyone on his podcast.”
I may also have suggested that my colleagues re-read their Solzhenitsyn if they’d like to understand what’s going on and where it’s leading. We’ll see if I’m invited to the next get-together…
the people taking these actions are ignorantly following the logical path created by their miseducation.

While I was speaking more about the various leadership & HR types who are going along with their training, I am guessing the worst case for Miss Not-Problem Glasses is she is one of those people who cheerily posts something fanciful in the “what will your job be after the revolution, comrade?” threads without care that she’d probably have to inform on her parents.
But opposing Islamic aggression was enough for most people to classify it as conservative
I don’t agree. What it was, weirdly, was pro-Presidential-Administration. Bush polices were uniformly supported, both by Charles himself and the commentariat; then when Obama got elected Charles pivoted and most of the long-time commenters didn’t, leading to a multiple waves of bannings and a core group of sycophants.
Bush polices were uniformly supported, both by Charles himself and the commentariat…
Bush policies in general? Not just war-on-Islamic-terror policies? I don’t recall that.
…then when Obama got elected Charles pivoted and most of the long-time commenters didn’t
As best I recall Charles supported Obama before he was elected. Am I mistaken?
I confess I haven’t visited LGF since early in the Obama administration. The Obama worship and waves of bannings persuaded me to write Charles off.
Didn’t LGF break the Bush National Guard BS story? The one with the obvious proportional font issue?
It’s been a really long time. If they weren’t the first, they were certainly instrumental in the digital forensics.
Except Little Green Footballs was not conservative.
The commentariat was pretty much conservative or libertarian types – vocally pro-American and finding LGF not just post 9/11 but a real boost in followers because of Rathergate. I went to at least one IRL meetup with a over a dozen SoCal commenters and don’t recall one leftist or left-liberal among them.
And yes, I’m in agreement with Daniel here, Charles himself remained a bit elusive politically but whether it was just Obama’s election or in combination with him finally hooking up with a lady-friend (who was rumored as very Left) the ban stick came out for all manner of dissent from Chucky’s new found President Messiah. I forget what wave of purges I was in, but I wasn’t surprised it was for something fairly trivial.
Didn’t LGF break the Bush National Guard BS story? The one with the obvious proportional font issue?
Oh my, yes, that’s right: I now remember the animated GIF that he posted.
Tell me again that this world is real. Then pull the other one.

One consolation, if any, like most “women’s” sports nobody really cares anyway. Although, are we really that far from government-mandated, mandatory viewing?

No amount of “Black Lives Matter” signs will protect you from the mobs. Some dead black kid is merely an excuse for their violence. They are feral vermin and Marxist vermin, and the only way to stop them is with force.
Seen downtown the other day: Lots of shop windows displaying large pictures of black people. It won’t help. You cannot appease monsters.
It has crossed my mind that there must be a pool of stupid young male Blacks in the USA who were bred just to be shot by Police so as to justify looting and other mayhem and provide legal justification for big compensation payments to their families, i.e. “Do it for the greater good of the family and neighbours in the ‘hood’ [who need a new TV or shoes]” or “Take one for the team!”
Am I being too cynical?

If the police don’t step up, this is going to happen more often (and why gun sales are through the roof).
Can’t help but notice that Ms. Cultural Revolution up there is wearing glasses. Excuse me, “intelligencia” glasses.
For the last ten years at least, I have been frequently and profoundly saddened by the historical ignorance of my recent-graduate acquaintances. Folks, it CAN happen here. For pretty much any value of “here”.
If the police don’t step up, this is going to happen more often
Would it be in bad taste for me to post this meme?
Grim thoughts, but I’ve been seeing that meme more frequently lately. If Democrats refuse to deal properly with violent thugs, then the citizens will, and the results will be ugly.
Not a fan of having to watch videos to get the whole story, but here’s a very good takedown of the MSM Narrative regarding the black US Army LT traffic stop in Virginia. AIUI, the cops have already been fired. Yet another case of NS half the story being told. God, I hate these people…

Am I being too cynical?
I don’t think blacks are consciously breeding children for this purpose, but I do think they are raising their children to think in ways that lead to this: School is for chumps. The gangster life is admirable. White people are conspiring to keep blacks down. Blacks are the superior race which is only kept down by racist whites and Jews and Asians and Middle Easterners and, well, everybody.
(Of course, when I say “they” I mean “a significant fraction of blacks”, not “all blacks”. And the racial paranoia is more common than the glorification of criminality.)
Furthermore, the hard core of the Left has indeed been cynically creating this situation to make cities ungovernable. “The worse, the better” as the old Marxist revolutionary slogan goes.
here’s a very good takedown of the MSM Narrative regarding the black US Army LT traffic stop in Virginia.
I heard that the LT had a firearm on the floor or on the seat.

Did anyone ever post a link here to the video of the black Chicago
womanfemale ranting that she and her friends cannot loot stores because Arab owners are standing outside defending them with firearms? YouTube keeps taking the video down for “violating terms of service”, although we know that the real reason is they don’t want us to see evidence of just how evil some black people are. Fortunately YouTube cannot take down the websites that discuss this and link to the video.“… regarding the black US Army LT traffic stop”
I viewed the video of this ‘event’. I don’t know whether the traffic stop was warranted or not, but I do know that the soldier manipulated the situation and actively refused legitimate Police direction. His apparently polite questioning was what escalated the situation; from a behavioural perspective he was ‘playing’ the Police using distraction. [In some ways the ‘event’ reminded me of sovereign citizens spouting their crazy legal arguments and demands, threats to sue, etc. to Police as an attempt to distract.] He could have brought the ‘event’ to a safe end by simply following the standard direction of the Police and he would not have been sprayed. I found this officer’s behaviour insolent and disrespectful. I doubt he would have accepted such behaviour from troops under his command, not would he have behaved to superior officers in such a way.
AYFKM…Again, this cannot be real. WTLF kind of reality is this? A bad Monty Python skit? Why don’t we all just fucking surrender everything, everywhere now and be done. Continuing on with this absurdity would itself be an absurdity. These people are fucking morons and we are ourselves idiots for letting them “lead” us.
https://nationalinterest.org/blog/reboot/solar-panels-tanks-nato-wants-go-green-182647
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg [who wants solar panels on tanks] is clearly as stupid as the Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Mayor Mike Elliott who stated “I don’t believe that officers need to necessarily have weapons every time they’re making a traffic stop,…” However both of them will have to work harder to catch up with the stupidity of the woman complaining about ‘A-rabs’ carrying firearms to stop her from looting.
So there is a kids cartoon show called “Bluey”. Haven’t watched it, but it seems it is a cartoon for little kids and has messages in it about family and being nice to each other. Something I would have let my kids watch unsupervised. Bit like Peppa Pig, shouldn’t be controversial. Beverly Wang has shattered delusions however with an article on an ABC website – funded at least in small part by yours truly. In said article Ms Wang poses the big question: “Why can’t Bluey be more representative”.
If you go to the link I recommend scrolling down through the dross to the subheading “My blue struggle: representation”. Yes, the word is struggle – it is a struggle to keep up with the angst. Ms Wang laments “As a parent of colour, I am always conscious of the presence — or absence — of diverse representation in kids’ pop culture, what it means for children and the conversations we have around that. I sincerely believe you don’t have to be ‘Other’ to think about this too.”

If the police don’t step up, this is going to happen more often (and why gun sales are through the roof).
To be sure, I see that as an encouraging sign–if the police don’t do their job, nobody should be surprised to see citizens stepping in to do that job themselves.
Equally encouraging are the thousands (millions?) of new gun owners every month–firearms ownership leads to thinking, thinking leads to fewer Democrats getting re-elected.
Fun, too. I love teaching anyone who is curious how to shoot. Especially liberals.
It’s a Good Thing.
@ Felicity: “I sincerely believe you don’t have to be ‘Other’ to think about this too.”
Well speaking as an ‘Other’ – I’m autistic – I don’t need or want a bleeding heart SJW speaking or advocating on my behalf without asking me first if I need an advocate: so much for “the conversations [with whom?] we have around that”. Secondly, having worked professionally in the welfare/disability field for 40 years or so I met plenty of BH JWS long before I was publicly known to be autistic and said BH SJWs were the most miserable back-stabbing SOBs I ever met so ‘tolerant’ and ‘caring’ were they as they did not understand me and my thought processes or eccentricities.
the black Chicago
womanfemale ranting that she and her friends cannot loot stores because Arab owners are standing outside defending them with firearms?I’ll just leave this here.
Many years ago, after a year long tour in South Korea, I was assigned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, versus being reassigned back to Fort Hood, Texas. (I was a signal corps officer by then and Fort Hood was the testbed for the Mobile Subscriber Equipment fielding, which meant that Fort Hood had around twice as many signal corps officers that it needed.)
My wife and home were in Killeen, Texas. (That is the town literally on the southern side of Fort Hood.) It was roughly a 5.5 hour drive to go from Fort Sill to Killeen, which I would do shortly after close of business on Friday. Back then, if you drove REALLY fast along US HWY 281 between Jacksboro and Wichita Falls, you could cut some significant time off the journey. I would (of course) wait until the last minute on Sunday (I wouldn’t get to Fort Sill until 1am or so) to make the return journey.
One time, shortly after midnight on such a return run, a state trooper was driving south on US 281 while I was barreling north on the same road. That area wasn’t flat and once his grill crested the ridge, I assume his radar told him that he had a hot one. His lights went on almost immediately and by the time he slowed down, turned around, and caught back up with me, I was pulled over, interior light on, wallet on dash, hands on wheel, and driver’s window rolled down.
We were in the middle of nowhere and he was alone. We exchanged pleasantries and I mentioned that I was a soldier (I was in civilian clothing at the time, but showed him my ID as well as my DL) who was driving back to my duty station after a weekend pass. He gave me a ticket (I really was speeding, after all. Reckless driving ticket level of speeding, to be honest.), but the ticket cited me for one MPH below the limit that defines reckless driving.
In the US, military people are answerable to the local civilian authorities for events that happen outside of the installation. After the locals are done with you, then the military gets to do its thing to you.
The officer in that video should be court-martialed at most or at least given a letter of reprimand in his permanent file (that would probably result in his never being promoted again).
a very good takedown of the MSM Narrative
I doubt he would have accepted such behaviour from troops under his command, not would he have behaved to superior officers in such a way
There seems to be some confusion regarding police and military. To clarify: the police are not “superior officers” to anyone who is not also a police officer in the same chain of command. And the relative ranks of a military officer and a police officer are utterly irrelevant.
I don’t have an opinion about this incident. While I fully understand the point Tatum is making about traffic stops being dangerous, I don’t like that being used as an excuse for police officers to go to DEFCON 1 when there is no reasonable presentation of a threat.
There goes the neighbourhood.
@ RC: “In the US, military people are answerable to the local civilian authorities for events that happen outside of the installation. After the locals are done with you, then the military gets to do its thing to you.
The officer in that video should be court-martialed at most or at least given a letter of reprimand in his permanent file (that would probably result in his never being promoted again).”
It occurred to me that his superior officers would see the video and would take a poor view of his public demeanour in uniform, but I wasn’t sure.
@ DR: yes I understand that there are separate chains of command: Police versus Military. The point I was making was that I would expect an officer [and gentleman?] would display better behaviour and be respectful to the Police officers in public and in uniform. Thus I wondered how he behaves within the military chain of command. Is the attitude and behaviour seen typical of how he also ‘operates’ in the military?
So. Lone cop in a car during the hours of darkness. In the video, lone cop who turned on his lights and siren but the driver of the car did not act in a reasonable manner by pulling over or otherwise indicating that said driver understood that the police wanted him to pull over. I didn’t see what branch to which that idiot young officer belonged. I would be surprised if he was in any of the combat arms.
The story that I told above indicated that while I was a signal puke at that time, I had been an Armor officer not that long before.
Just to provide an indication of what being a tanker meant, there are so-called “fire commands”; those are a series of instructions (with an actual format) that tells the entire crew what’s about to happen.
For example: “Gunner, sabot, tank” informs the entire crew that there is a tank-looking vehicle (to which I’ve hopefully slewed the tank turret so that the gunner can see said target) that we need to destroy. The driver at that point will do what he needs to do to ensure the gun is as stable as possible (short halt or maintain a constant speed). The loader will hear “sabot” and ensure that particular round is in the gun (he will yell “up” when the round is loaded, he’s out of the recoil path, and the safety is off [that is what “up” means; the safety is off when the safety switch is up]). The gunner will respond (after he has identified the target) with “identified!”. The tank commander will look through his sight to ensure that is really what we want to kill; if so, the follow-on command from the tank commander is “Fire!”. The gunner will then say seconds prior to actually firing the main gun with “On the way!” (that tells the loader to get out of the way of the main gun recoil path.). There’s other crap afterwards around if you killed the target or missed; if you missed, you can tell the gunner how to adjust his aim.
That’s a lot of background that might explain the fire command of “Driver, troops, track”.
I.E., driver, there are infantry near us. Run them over and turn them into paste with our tank tracks. There was a reason why we called light infantry “squishies” while mechanized infantry were called “crunchies”.
My long-winded point is that if you have been trained to kill people, then you should be able to realize when you are in a situation where the other person could most certainly believe that you would be willing and able to kill them and act in a civilized manner so that neither of you are harmed.
YMMV.
In this the Biden era military the officer will be promoted and encouraged to give seriously well paid motivational speeches describing his trauma. Expect to see him gracing Congress before the decade is out.
It’s sort of non-lethal ghetto lottery win.
I saw elsewhere that he is a “medic”. Whatever that means these days. Also note the rank issue is in regard to expected behavior from a class standpoint. One should expect officers, especially newly minted ones (saw him referred to formally as 2nd LT in one story), to understand certain things, things directly related to this situation that should be understood and not require restating. My guess is he’s also an “affirmative action” 2nd LT in a couple of ways.
BTW RC, I thought NTSOG was agreeing with you but clarifying with DR who was being nitpicky about his DEFCON1 overreaction to the supposed overreaction to the…well, whatever.
My knowledge of MPs comes mostly from a former colleague and a little from my father, but AIUI rank even within the military, has no immediate meaning in the context of a traffic stop. An enlisted MP has no obligation to any officer (my buddy told me a story of a colonel he pulled over who was drunk and behaved like a total asshole when they pulled him over and consequently arrested him) to obey their commands in that context.
BTW, you mention being stationed in Korea. Was that with the 7th division? Not sure if they were armored but my father was in the 7th, 17th Infantry through the war and had a role setting up the police there. Pulling Japanese cops off their horses and replacing them.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg [who wants solar panels on tanks]…
The only sane interpretation I can put on that is that tanks may be run at idle for long periods, merely to operate radios and other electronics, and that armored vehicles guzzle gas at a rapid rate. A hasty internet search reveals that the M1 Abrams tank has a 500 gallon fuel capacity and consumes 10 gallons per hour when merely idling. (30-60 gallons per hour when in motion.) So with solar panels the engine could be left off all day, and even at night if there were sufficient battery capacity.
Following the links I find this quote: “That will be good for the climate, reduced emissions of greenhouse gases, but it will also increase the resilience of our troops and military operations, because we know that one of the vulnerabilities in any military operation is the supply of fossil fuels. Along supply lines, vulnerable supply lines”
To be sure, I see that as an encouraging sign–if the police don’t do their job, nobody should be surprised to see citizens stepping in to do that job themselves.
And that would be a return to the traditional nature of policing and law enforcement, where the police were merely the official arm of the law and ordinary citizens had the right and duty to do their part. As Sir Robert Peel said, “…the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.:
The article is written, as is the headline, in the context of adding solar panels TO the tanks. It is also written in the context that the driving purpose is to reduce the carbon footprint, not operational abilities which, BTW I am 100% for if they involve solar IF IF IF it helps logistically. Anything that in any way detracts from battlefield readiness is, in my mind, sabotage. I do not see anything in the “clarifications” that puts that readiness first.
It’s a Good Thing.
“God made Man. Sam Colt made men equal.”
It is a very good thing for the weak and the elderly to be able to kill a thug with one squeeze of a finger.
And that would be a return to the traditional nature of policing and law enforcement, where the police were merely the official arm of the law and ordinary citizens had the right and duty to do their part.
And God only knows how long until or even if that happens. WTF must we relearn hundreds of years of historical experience? WTF do we even have schools? Public or private. They all seem to have failed to teach a damn thing. And this has itself been known for decades. Yet only now…if that…do many even on the right begin to show any concern. Like our throw away society has taken on its greatest possible scope. It’s as if people think, well…if we destroy Western Civilization by failing to maintain its most basic principle parts, Mommy and Daddy can just take us down to the civilization store and buy us a new one.
I do not see anything in the “clarifications” that puts that readiness first.
It did strike me as a very political speech to a very political audience. As for “carbon footprint”, eff that: the overriding rule in the military must be, as you say, readiness. In an ideal, less politicized, world generals would not cater at all to the delusions of politicians and do-gooder pukes.
I would think that the only sensible way to equip tanks with solar panels would be compact folding units that would be stored somewhere inside the tank until needed. (But where would they be stored? A tank is not exactly spacious. One more damn thing is, well, one more damn thing. And one more thing that will break and need replacement.)
I don’t think blacks are consciously breeding children for this purpose
It’s not “race”, but “class” – paying women to have children lead to… wait for it… more children. It’s as if subsidizing yields more.
Amazing, no?
Oh look, the 2LT has had 11 prior traffic violations in the same general neck of the woods.
I would be surprised if he was in any of the combat arms.
At one point in the full video he claims he is a “medical officer”. “Medical officer” = physician, and there is no such thing as a 2LT doctor, so my money is on MSC of some type. There is also no such thing as a shaving profile that lets one have a mini goatee.
It’s not “race”, but “class” – paying women to have children lead to… wait for it… more children. It’s as if subsidizing yields more.
And, most famously, Theodore Dalrymple has written about this phenomenon in the UK: multi-generational welfare dependency and all the associated social pathologies. At least there is no Chav Lives Matter movement.
At least there is no Chav Lives Matter movement.
That’s cos Chavs are white (or white-adjacent enough), and so their lives don’t matter?
On this side of the pond, there’s a sizeable population of white welfare queens and their unwashed broods, but there’s no Hillbilly Lives Matter, or Trailer Trash Lives Matter movement.
there’s no Hillbilly Lives Matter
Quite the opposite, as illustrated by that National Review writer who called for replacing hillbillies and other white people made unemployed by the offshoring of manufacturing with cheap hardworking immigrants.
Posted this somewhat similar thought on MeWe regarding a MAGA America article:
—-
Every word of this is just as true regarding our second home in the north Georgia mountains. While black Americans are rarely seen, once in a while I see someone at the hardware or grocery store, they are treated like everyone else. They do not display any body language of fear of being among white folks and are often gregarious in their interactions with other white locals as are those other white locals with them. Now occasionally some “urban youth” come up out of Atlanta with a chip on their shoulders, making a nuisance of themselves, but even those are dealt with in the same manner as the obnoxious red neck type. The only thing I would add to this is that rural MAGA-ish America has its share of white welfare bums, drug addicts, and assorted miscreants as well. But its not a racial thing and much of that poverty is itself driven by welfare dependency from the Federal government and to some degree the state government in Atlanta. Along with a bit of enabling from local churches who are more inclined to deal with such things with handouts rather than to deal with them using a firm, tough-love hand up.

WTP: Good article.
Tell me again that this world is real
Accidental Renaissance material. An emblematic image for the future Chinese textbook about the fall of Western civilization.
replacing hillbillies … with cheap hardworking immigrants
A theory of Trains, Planes and Automobiles.
I think the head teacher or whoever it was needs reminding of: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me”. Or is that too aggressive?
@ RC: ‘There was a reason why we called light infantry “squishies” while mechanized infantry were called “crunchies”.’
In other words members of the military do kill people who are known as ‘the enemy’. I’m sure that shocks the caring and loving Kumbaya folks. In that light I was delighted to see this recent post by an Australian politician, Andrew Hastie*, who was reacting to the Australian Defence Forces being turned into “a social justice agency with progressive activist intentions.”

*Andrew Hastie was a troop commander in the Special Air Service Regiment and served tours in Afghanistan.
It is also written in the context that the driving purpose is to reduce the carbon footprint, not operational abilities … Anything that in any way detracts from battlefield readiness is, in my mind, sabotage. I do not see anything in the “clarifications” that puts that readiness first.
More than the carbon footprint consequences, it’s symbolism and territory marking. Solar panels on tanks brings something from a “soft”, “kind”, “feminine” domain into a “hard”, “serious”, “masculine” domain. It’s a powerful image, like hippy girls putting flowers into soldiers’ guns – visual material for Davos speeches and Super Bowl ads.
And they can’t be transparent about imposing what they see as a higher agenda than battlefield readiness – listen General, if we tell you to put windmills on our tanks (whose tanks are they? that’s right!) you’ll do what you’re told.
No, it always turns out that the blue sky thinkers are wiser than the domain experts even in the domain itself. Those macho internal combustion fetishists who design tanks are rejecting a free energy source. 21st century war is soft and kind and environmental as well as being kick-ass – those sound like contradictions, don’t they? Aha! Old paradigm: tradeoffs have to be weighed up and managed by specialists, new paradigm: tradeoffs are synthesized away by holistic thinking generalists.
It’s like how promoters of boardroom quotas can’t stop at saying that there might be a bottom line cost, but that the symbolism and social outcomes outweigh the mere business considerations. No, the tradeoffs are synthesized – diversity is not only good in itself but good for the bottom line, and businesses with undiverse boards were leaving money on the sidewalk until they were helped out by diversity legislation.
Exactly, Mathieu. Now why can’t anyone on the right who can attract serious attention, articulate this sort of thing, mock its absurdities to a broader audience? Reagan was a master at this sort of thing. Thatcher as well.
Please accept my apologies, @WTP, for my delay in responding.
I’m old, but not quite that old. My tour in Korea was between 1990 and 1991. The only American division (singular is important) in the ROK was the 2nd Infantry Division. I was in the 122nd Signal Battalion back then (we were stationed in Dongducheon at that time) as that battalion’s S-1.
The US Army has done almost everything possible to ensure that battalion/regimental history is a pile of shit. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/17th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States) if you had any doubts versus a read of https://www.amazon.com/This-Kind-War-Fiftieth-Anniversary/dp/1574883348 (at this point in time, I’d really advise you find a hard copy somewhere and read that as well).
@WTP, as a young officer so many years ago, we had the story of Task Force Smith (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Osan#Task_Force_Smith) shoved into our faces many times. For good reason.
Since the “War on Terror” has been going on for 20 odd years, there is a plethora of officers and NCOs who have fought against a relatively primitive foe (namely, not technologically sophisticated versus tactically sophisticated).
Soldiers that haven’t fought against technologically sophisticated foes have no fucking idea how someone that is technologically sophisticated will turn them into dogfood. I was dealing with that *bleep* in the early 1990’s. The plus of officers and NCOs dealing with death and destruction (AKA combat experience) can be offset with the habits they learned by fighting against technologically unsophisticated foes. (I’ll point out that being supposedly technologically unsophisticated against a foe that thinks you are technologically unsophisticated can provide ways to prove that you are tactically/operationally sophisticated against those idiots.)
Bah. I’m in a really bad mood tonight.
Please accept my apologies – NP. None owed. Some people prefer to avoid discussing such things for various reasons.
I’m old, but not quite that old. My tour in Korea was between 1990 and 1991. – Yeah, I did kinda get that. I was just curious. AFAIK the 7th Div was disbanded or such around that time. Their US base, Fort Ord, closed around then. I knew it was a long shot but it was possible my father’s Captain (Fresee or some such…going buy Dad’s pronunciation) might have still been an senior officer or general or such by then. He wanted my father to go to OTS but as good a soldier as he was, Dad was definitely not interested in re-enlisting. During the Korean War, the 17th Inf Reg took heavy casualties at the battle of Pork Chop Hill, or so that wiki link once indicated. It seems to have been heavily edited/purged since I last checked it out a few years ago. I believe Fresee was mentioned somewhere in that battle, possibly as a Major. He is mentioned in the WWII History of the 7th Division book that I have, with proper spelling of course, but that book is at my other home. Shortly around the time my father died, I hooked up with an email group regarding the 17th. Not sure what happened with that.
Soldiers that haven’t fought against technologically sophisticated foes have no fucking idea how someone that is technologically sophisticated will turn them into dogfood – Agree, according to what my limited understanding is based on, interpolating what I had learned from my father with my somewhat limited exposer to modern warfare from working for a major defense contractor for a few years. This really, really concerns me when I hear certain conservatives speak of Civil War II. Even some with modern technological war experience that have been out half a dozen years or so. So much can change so rapidly with the smaller weapons systems. OTOH, getting big stuff like F-35’s or whatever tanks or such to go from conception to delivery…well, the less said the better I suppose.
I will say this, outside the tech sphere…The only people I have ever had any faith in, realistic leadership-wise, were the few that I knew who spent considerable time under live fire. “You can tell he was never shot at in anger”, as my father would often say regarding certain worthless “leaders” of the day.
Bah. I’m in a really bad mood tonight. – Yeah. Me all the time now.
OCS not OTS…. CRS disease is creeping in.
