When Your Colleagues Have Joined A Cult
Maths teacher Paul Rossi shares his experience of “anti-racism training” at a Manhattan high school, during which he questioned the alleged imperative to foreground each student’s racial identity, and questioned the value of racialising human attributes – including the claim that “objectivity” is somehow a characteristic of “white supremacy”:
When my questions were shared outside this forum [a mandatory, racially segregated Zoom meeting], violating the school norm of confidentiality, I was informed by the head of the high school that my philosophical challenges had caused “harm” to students, given that these topics were “life and death matters, about people’s flesh and blood and bone.” I was reprimanded… He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers” and “neurological disturbance in students’ beings and systems.” The school’s director of studies added that my remarks could even constitute harassment.
And then the strange became stranger, one might say sinister.
Update:
Very much related. Or, Knowing That It’s Creepy And Immoral, And Harmful To Children, And Doing It Anyway.
We’ve been here before, of course, on more than one occasion.
The Chinese Cultural Revolution should have been a negative example to the rest of world versus a how-to.
Given the obvious and seemingly endless opportunities for gaslighting and psychological bullying, it should hardly be surprising that such “anti-racism” efforts, and the “equity” industry more generally, attract unpleasant people with unsavoury inclinations.
And yet the surprises keep happening, with some regularity.
Not entirely unrelated.
Note that the “diversity” drones are the ones with lots of assumptions about the habits and characteristics that a black person, every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
Evil.
“objectivity” is somehow a characteristic of “white supremacy”
Is that objectively true or just a subjective opinion?
(Off topic – one for an upcoming Friday)
’ He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers” ..’
Just checking, but did he mean the students here? Or the so called ‘educators’..?
(Off topic – one for an upcoming Friday)
Oh dear, we can’t have that. A disturbing example of white supremacy – not a single black person to be seen anywhere /s
Evil.
I suppose there’s a tendency to want to imagine that things can’t get as twisted and dysfunctional as they often do, not least when leftist psychology is given leverage. Sort of, “No, my children can’t actually be being indoctrinated by obnoxious, preening lunatics…” And this tendency, this reluctance, is an obvious factor in why it does go on, and is going on.
In much the same way, supposedly ‘progressive’ thinking can be so inverted and perverse, so nakedly wrong-headed, that it can be tempting to imagine that one has misheard or misunderstood some justifying subtlety. We are, after all, told, largely by themselves, how much these people care and how terribly clever they are. When in fact what’s happening is every bit as deranged, and deranging, as it seems.
How long will it be in the USA before “blacks only” buses, bars, cinemas, drinking fountains etc are introduced?
He further informed me that I had created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers”
Lefties project.
created “dissonance for vulnerable and unformed thinkers”
Literally any dissenting opinion. Next up, an accusation of being unmutual.
my philosophical challenges had caused “harm” to students, given that these topics were “life and death matters, about people’s flesh and blood and bone.”
Fuck. Me.
A few days later, the head of school ordered all high school advisors to read a public reprimand of my conduct out loud to every student in the school.
Fuck. Me.
A recent faculty email chain received enthusiastic support for recommending that we “‘officially’ flag students” who appear “resistant” to the “culture we are trying to establish.”
Fuck. Me.
My own contract for next year requires me to “participate in restorative practices designed by the Office of Community Engagement” … The details of these practices remain unspecified until I agree to sign.
Fuck. Them.
“Who invited her?” department: http://patterico.com/2021/04/13/when-that-one-relative-comes-to-visit-and-dumps-goobers-of-judginess-on-her-loved-ones/
Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute… Clicking the article, I can’t get past the very first sentence…”am a teacher at Grace Church High School in Manhattan”? Grace Church? Grace #$#*% Church? Seriously? Grace Church? Grace? Church? Grace? Not much surprises me anymore and I must say I’m not really surprised by this, per se. Just more fucking disgusted with the idiotic society that I continue to tolerate stewing in for some absurd, stupid reason.
But hey, I’m sure this is not the first time this teacher encountered this kind of nonsense. I am quite sure that there were plenty of opportunities for this teacher to speak up and speak out about the PC culture as it slowly consumed our formerly free, open, and prosperous civilization, began destroying other peoples’ lives and such, but he did nothing. Fuck him. To further Karl’s point but also to my own a few days ago, fuck everybody. Just a society of people getting what they deserve. Some even getting what they asked for.
Oh, and now Zombie Dodge comes in with a link to the King Cuck of All Cucks, Patterico and his sycophants. Whom I despise worse than any leftists. Leftists, to some degrees are too stupid to know what they do. Patterico and his ilk are the traitorous scum who are too smaaaart. Fredo style smart. But smarter. In the Fredo sense.
This is all a joke, right? Solipsism ain’t just a river in Egypt, right?
Grace Church?
As so often, the rot starts among the elites.
“Who invited her?”
From the link: “She can’t expect to be taken seriously, of course.”
That’s bullshit: She can expect to be taken seriously, because there are many more leftists just as twisted as she is. Do the bloggers at Patterico really think that the problem is not nearly as widespread as it is?
But….he’s just teaching…Maths.
What in hell can all that CRT shite have to do with…teaching…maths?
Couldn’t he just have quietly skipped the Gauleiter-session and just got on with teaching…maths?
Do the bloggers at Patterico really think that the problem is not nearly as widespread as it is?
They’re idiots over there. Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them after Cruz lost Indiana to Trump in the primaries. Got banned several times such that I can’t really remember. Chased off/banned most of his regulars, many who ostensibly were friends in some regard, or so it seemed. But Grand Master P was always an over educated idiot long before that. Lawyer scum with no understanding of how things work in the real world. They believe almost religiously in their superior position in society as the Law Givers.
Couldn’t he just have quietly skipped the Gauleiter-session and just got on with teaching…maths?
Either you’re being facetious or you don’t understand how all this works. I presume the former.
Many here just a few years ago expressed satisfaction that the objective superiority of the hard sciences and math would be a bulwark against this insanity. I tried to tell y’all that you were whistling past the graveyard. Some acknowledged this…some didn’t.
I tried to tell y’all that you were whistling past the graveyard. Some acknowledged this…some didn’t.
There certainly was a time when I believed that. World events and longer acquaintance with various people in the STEM fields disabused me of that notion.
They’re idiots over there. Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them…
I used to read that blog, years ago. Not sure if I found it via Volokh or Powerline or Instapundit. After a few years I started visiting less and less often. Did indeed notice a certain arrogance, although my memory of particulars is rather hazy.
…no understanding of how things work in the real world. They believe almost religiously in their superior position in society as the Law Givers.
That seems to be a common human failing, but one that some fields are more prone to than others. University professors, for instance, are particularly susceptible to the disease. Even before WWI German universities were hotbeds of racial supremacist ideology.
every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
I remember one of my fave tv shows of 80s was St. Elsewhere where a young Denzel Washington made his debut. I remember one particular “throw away” line where he has declined, again, to go out dancing with colleagues after work and he mumbles out loud his frustration “why does everyone assume the black guy is a great dancer? I can’t dance.”
the habits and characteristics that a black person, every black person, should have, in order to be “authentic,” i.e., properly black.
My high school foreign language teacher was black and by current criteria he would be counted as inauthentic: liked classical music, opera, renaissance art, tennis, etc.
I may have read/commented there at some point. I recognize the name because I met Patterico (real name Patrick something) once at a get together for the regulars on the Armed Liberal blog. It was in passing and many years ago, he didn’t strike me strongly either favorably or unfavorably.
Trust me. Read and posted there for about 6-7 years. TDS consumed them…
The rot started even before OrangeManBad. Patrick seemed enamored of Obama and didn’t take criticism of him well and he can brook no dissent from his opinions. He went overboard when Jeff Goldstein defended Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” line.
Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment. SDA had one during the early stages of the pandemic, although it seems to have recovered somewhat.
Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment.
[ Braces self, bears down. ]
Sooner or later, every conservative blog faces its Little Green Footballs moment.
Except Little Green Footballs was not conservative. It was, for a time, anti-Islamist, but in every other respect Charles Johnson was a garden variety liberal. (Which is to say, leftist.) But opposing Islamic aggression was enough for most people to classify it as conservative.
The Chinese Cultural Revolution should have been a negative example to the rest of world versus a how-to.
Just like other random ignorant reinventions of or demands to create brand new versions existing institutions (roommates, marriage, cabs, police, absolute monarchs) the people taking these actions are ignorantly following the logical path created by their miseducation.
Very few of them would defend the methods or results of the cultural revolution but they don’t really understand why it happened either. They all know nationalism is bad and white solidarity is bad because they can point to the magic moustache man. But they’ve never thought about the consequences of others’ tribal & racial solidarity or the mechanics of victim/oppressor ideology because they’ve never connected them to any real world results.
These are people who are trained to do things such as identifying privilege, conducting a meeting, finding the potential for offense in anything, or following a building evacuation plan without understanding anything beyond the first order effects. We used to joke about the uselessness of the various ‘studies’ degrees and their lack of earnings potential. We didn’t recognize it as feeding into an obviously growing industry of defining one more item for leadership to manage.
I was discussing a CNN article with some of my colleagues in the public opinion sphere, and was a bit disappointed with the shallow thinking on display all around.
I wound up ranting, “When 90% of pop culture and news media broadcasts relentlessly for four years that Trumpsters are nothing but horrible racist ignorant cousin-humping Russian assets, it shouldn’t be surprising that people would hesitate to tell a stranger on the phone that they like Trump. Doubly so in an era where you can lose your livelihood because some college kid finds an off-color Tweet you wrote seven years previous and shares it with everyone on his podcast.”
I may also have suggested that my colleagues re-read their Solzhenitsyn if they’d like to understand what’s going on and where it’s leading. We’ll see if I’m invited to the next get-together…
the people taking these actions are ignorantly following the logical path created by their miseducation.

A student, but not of history, I assume.
A student, but not of history, I assume.
Nor of calligraphy, I’d wager. But, then again …
Nor of calligraphy, I’d wager.
You have to wonder if she even knows, or whether she would be embarrassed. Given the hysterical sadism, and the eating of children.
A student, but not of history, I assume.
Perhaps she needs to experience a struggle session. Just for her education, you understand.
I occasionally refer to these types as “third against the wall.” Useful for helping awful people gain power, but definitely not worth keeping around afterwards.
A student, but not of history, I assume.
While I was speaking more about the various leadership & HR types who are going along with their training, I am guessing the worst case for Miss Not-Problem Glasses is she is one of those people who cheerily posts something fanciful in the “what will your job be after the revolution, comrade?” threads without care that she’d probably have to inform on her parents.
But opposing Islamic aggression was enough for most people to classify it as conservative
I don’t agree. What it was, weirdly, was pro-Presidential-Administration. Bush polices were uniformly supported, both by Charles himself and the commentariat; then when Obama got elected Charles pivoted and most of the long-time commenters didn’t, leading to a multiple waves of bannings and a core group of sycophants.
Bush polices were uniformly supported, both by Charles himself and the commentariat…
Bush policies in general? Not just war-on-Islamic-terror policies? I don’t recall that.
…then when Obama got elected Charles pivoted and most of the long-time commenters didn’t
As best I recall Charles supported Obama before he was elected. Am I mistaken?
I confess I haven’t visited LGF since early in the Obama administration. The Obama worship and waves of bannings persuaded me to write Charles off.
Didn’t LGF break the Bush National Guard BS story? The one with the obvious proportional font issue?
It’s been a really long time. If they weren’t the first, they were certainly instrumental in the digital forensics.
Except Little Green Footballs was not conservative.
The commentariat was pretty much conservative or libertarian types – vocally pro-American and finding LGF not just post 9/11 but a real boost in followers because of Rathergate. I went to at least one IRL meetup with a over a dozen SoCal commenters and don’t recall one leftist or left-liberal among them.
And yes, I’m in agreement with Daniel here, Charles himself remained a bit elusive politically but whether it was just Obama’s election or in combination with him finally hooking up with a lady-friend (who was rumored as very Left) the ban stick came out for all manner of dissent from Chucky’s new found President Messiah. I forget what wave of purges I was in, but I wasn’t surprised it was for something fairly trivial.
Didn’t LGF break the Bush National Guard BS story? The one with the obvious proportional font issue?
Oh my, yes, that’s right: I now remember the animated GIF that he posted.
Tell me again that this world is real. Then pull the other one.
Tell me again that this world is real.
Where to start?
One consolation, if any, like most “women’s” sports nobody really cares anyway. Although, are we really that far from government-mandated, mandatory viewing?
Tell me again that this world is real.
From the same place, I’m so old I remember when they would just break a bottle of champagne.

Virtue signal failure:

No amount of “Black Lives Matter” signs will protect you from the mobs. Some dead black kid is merely an excuse for their violence. They are feral vermin and Marxist vermin, and the only way to stop them is with force.
