your last “challa out loud” comment didn’t cut the mustard.
What am I, chopped liver?
I once dated myself a coupla times.
What a bore.
I once dated myself a coupla times.
Did it go anything like this?
I once dated myself a coupla times.
So was it an amicable breakup, or did you dump yourself?
I once dated myself a coupla times.

“Justified”- yes, definitely.
“True Detective” seasons 1 and 3 are terrific, but give season 2 a swerve.
Mrs. Oik and I enjoyed the adaptation of Justin Cronin’s “The Passage”, a vampire/zombie apocalypse mash-up that took many liberties with the plot of the doorstep-sized trilogy of novels but which turned out to be surprisingly watchable.
I recommend The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on amazon prime. Yes yes, I like Black Mirror, The Expanse and Goliath, but if you want a change from sci-fi and the weird and bizarre, or crime-filled drama, TMMM is breath of fresh air. The characters and situations are appealing, and the actors know their stuff. I went into the series without knowing a thing about it, and discovered it’s very worth watching.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will mull.
Their son’s “activist” lifestyle seems an odd way of saying thanks.
Odd, but sadly not uncommon.
After the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013, many Bostonians were surprised not so much that the bombers were Chechens who had come to the USA for asylum, but their mother, who practically became the poster child for ingratitude.
Not only did she not care for the USA, she refused to work in a business that served men, demanded that the USA increase her welfare payments (for refusing to work), and claims that the USA murdered her sons.
Of course, her mosque was so disgusted with her sons that the imam refused to give the dead one a proper muslim burial, meaning even they thought it was intolerable.
Gomorrah on Netflix.
Also: “Stranger Things”, “The Boys” and “Narcos”.
All excellent.
“The Boys”
Yes, I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Rather gory and darkly comedic.
David: The Sandhamn Murders — a Swedish series. Pleasant and undemanding, interspersed with bouts of excitement. The people are mostly attractive, and the tone is light (touching base with dark material just to be up-to-date).
I recommend trying to find some old showings of “Hee Haw”.
Hours upon hours of down-home good corn-pone fun, that.
“The Terror” (series based on the Franklin Expedition) is really good – Prime. Faithful to the novel of the same name by Dan Simmons. Apparently there’s a second season, but I know nothing of that, as Season 1 ends where the novel did.
the agonizing and frankly terrifying oppression experienced by a middle-class 16 year old American girl who’s – sit down for this – 6 foot and 1 inch tall
You can make a good romantic comedy based on the premise of a restricted dating pool, like Marilyn Monroe who only wants to marry a millionaire, or Jane Fonda in Tall Story (1960) whose practical solution to her dating problems as a tall girl is to go to where the basketball players are. In the same year, Paula Prentiss and Jim Hutton played out the “tall girl eventually finds tall guy” story in Where the Boys Are. The premise seems out of date in 2019, when 6′ tall girls aren’t unusual, and they’re channeled into basketball or volleyball where they have lots of tall friends and access to a tall dating pool.
The other theme in the clips is that the girl is ashamed of being tall, thinks everyone is looking at her, wants to be invisible. You can make a good movie about a young person who gets over that phase. In Sabrina, Audrey Hepburn tells her father that she needed to leave home and go to cookery school to learn “how to live, how to be in the world and of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch”. That’s a process of getting over yourself, of a self-conscious person figuring out how little space they occupy in the consciousness of other people. It doesn’t culminate in a speech to your entire high school about how you’re not going to make me feel bad any more. Who is this girl and what sorts of grandiose delusions have been stewing in her head?
A while ago, someone put the 1967 “The Italian Job” on Bitchute. They have a search facility.
I saw the film when it came out, and enjoyed it. Decades later, I live in Italy, and now think the movie is bloody marvellous.
Have you watched Ash vs. Evil Dead yet? All 3 seasons are now on Netflix and it’s the grooviest thing I’be ever seen on television.
+1 for The Terror.
Although cannibalism is portrayed in a less than favourable manner.
If you enjoy Blacklist for what it is (rather than what it’s trying to be), you may like Covert Affairs on Amazon Prime. It’s very fluffy and silly but it’s not trying to be anything but, and Piper Perabo is actually likable. She does “plucky” well and doesn’t strain the Mary Sue tolerance.
Although if I’m honest, I watch it mostly to see just how far they’ll push “the ROM and Union Station in Toronto are every location everywhere in the world“.
I saw a nod to Justified – well worth the time, and also consider Banshee and The Americans. Westworld is excellent although they do lose the plot a bit in S2.
I’m not even going to chime in on the bad dating stories. It would be like Agassi playing the local high school girls’ intramural team.

Bigots.
If you watch the Andy Ngo video in David’s post linked to above you will see the woman and her husband are obstructed by 3 people. One…has been identified as Alsoufi.
I’ve watched the video now, and would be happy to see each of those thugs lose their livelihood and all their savings… in addition to the jail terms they deserve.
The other theme in the clips is that the girl is ashamed of being tall, thinks everyone is looking at her, wants to be invisible.
I’m 6’4″, which means I used to attract women like this like moths to a G-class star. There is absolutely a “tall girl slouch” affected by such women, a kind of weird contraposto intended to make them look shorter than they are. It mostly just makes them look like they have scoliosis.

There’s an excellent takedown/review of Jessica Valenti’s memoir, written a few years ago by one Robert Stacy McCain. However, it was posted on medium.com, and subsequently removed from there, and I’ve been unable to find the whole text since. Perhaps someone else has a link?

Thousands of brilliant & good people…, according to themselves, not that they would be biased.
A comment of note:
They do so like telling the rest of us what to do.
And of course, the really tall men often end up with short girls. Admittedly, I may be generalising from my own experience: my first boyfriend was 6 foot, the second 6 foot 4, and the third (my husband of 44 years) 6 foot 8.

Zionist Overlord is correct, the Medium account was deleted and, with it, the review of Sex Object. Here are two brief passages from her book, however:

Again, they target decent, polite, white-collar citizens whom they can be certain won’t put up a fight. Time and again we’ve seen it, from Antifa to BLM to this current crop of enviro-loons. Hell, I see it writ small every day, usually from urban yoof on public transport who’ll play their favo(u)rite musical celebration of illiteracy at full volume on their tinny little cellphone speaker, just to get a rise out of the normals. Or who cross against the lights, knowing that drivers will give way.
Neither our Moral Betters nor our Designated Victim Classes seem to realize or care that patience is not infinite, and decency can be driven out of even the most decent person if the incentives are applied hard enough for long enough. It may take a decade or more, but the time is coming when the preachy geography teacher on the airplane gets knocked cold and tied to his seat by a passenger while the flight attendants focus their attention elsewhere. The man on the bus may throw the mobile out the window, to the delight and applause of everybody except the offending yoof. The commuter may decide that it’s not worth getting rear-ended in traffic just to keep from hitting a jaywalker.
What’s more, juries are going to start acquitting their neighbo(u)rs for these breaches of public norms, because they’ll understand the circumstances and sympathize with the defendants. And if juries won’t convict, prosecutors won’t prosecute, and cops won’t bother enforcing the outmoded laws any more.
I don’t want to live in that world, and I resent those who insist on pushing us toward that end. I can only console myself knowing that their antics are going to be punished much more severely than any transgression I might commit. Even if I must see to it myself.
I’m 6’0″, married to a woman 5’10”. It’s terrible, because she steals my comfy shirts constantly.
And I can’t write in a house where something is wrong.

@TimT
That’s the correct author, but that particular article is more like the warm-up punches a boxer throws on the way to the ring. The elements are there, but it’s not that devastating knockout-punch which is shown on replay a dozen times. I’m guessing it was written before the book came out, based on a few marketing quotations.
@PatriarchTree
Oh yes, I remember those quotations, used to devastating effect right at the end. Just after mentioning that the fate of the rake is Bedlam, and quoting another line about how surprised her doctor was at the dosage of some psychiatric drug she was taking.
Surely, you must have another copy of that, and the ability to post it online, Mr. Tree? I went back more than once to savor it, and would be delighted to do so again.

Album title.
Althouse links to what sounds like the McCain article. The article itself has been cordoned off by the authorities (“This account is under investigation”), but there’s a copy at https://archive.is/AcrJE
If you search The Other McCain’s website, you’ll find that for awhile he read and deconstructed a number of feminist books, quoting directly from them, and proving these harridans are underpants-on-head cray-cray.
