Those Social Sciences
Meanwhile, in the Clown Quarter of academia, things rumble on as normal:
An anthropology professor at a community college in California has instructed her students that stereotyping someone in class is a punishable offence — on the same day that she handed out a four-page “white privilege” checklist listing common generalisations about white people.
Only four pages? It must’ve been very small print.
“Identity-based stereotypes will be considered an interruption,” reads the syllabus, and students voicing such assumptions will, we learn, “(a) be barred from participating in class, (b) lose all participation points for the day, and (c) [be] referred to the Dean of Students.” The educator in question, Amanda Zunner-Keating, is, however, keen to impress on those same students the numerous failings of All White People™, whose “privileges” include being able to go shopping without being “followed or harassed,” and the ability to find a bandage or adhesive plaster that “more or less matches” their skin colour. Such are the “unearned benefits,” the smug luxuriations, of the melanin-deficient.
And remember, making cartoonish assumptions about other students, based solely on their pigmentation, is an act of wickedness.
And remember, making cartoonish assumptions about other students, based solely on their pigmentation, is an act of wickedness.
Without double standards progressives would have no standards at all.
According to one student, Dr Zunner-Keating is an admirer of the Marxoid pedagogue Paulo Freire, and proudly endorsed in class a number of his loaded conceits, including a belief that, “The educator has the duty of not being neutral.” Or, it seems, consistent. Despite such lapses, some standards remain, however, and the syllabus reminds students that “work with a multitude of grammatical or spelling errors will need to be corrected” in order to receive full credit.
Which, of course, is something that can no longer be taken for granted.
I wonder what’ll happen when one of the students points it out?
Can Bill de Blasio be counted among the Clown Quarter? This effort is wondrous.

I wonder what’ll happen when one of the students points it out?
Given the nature and obviousness of the inconsistency, I shouldn’t imagine it will be welcomed. And I suppose that’s the thing. Anyone half-awake would presumably register the contradiction, but may also register the implication that one isn’t supposed to notice these things, let alone complain about them in class. And while tolerating contradiction is sometimes necessary, if only to avoid being a bore, I’m not sure it’s something to be encouraged as a habit, or a measure of cleverness.
“The educator has the duty of not being neutral.”
Cool, got it. Ahem, hem;
Two plus two equals four, rather than five or three—-Oh bother, I’ve already lost track, someone help me with this:
Are the concepts of two, three, four, and five considered right wing not neutral or are they left wing not neutral? Likewise adding and subtracting. After all, clearly, sorting out which is a very important duty.
“The ability to find a bandage or adhesive plaster that “more or less matches” their skin colour”
a) How is this is a privilege? Are those who work in the food industry oppressed because they’re generally required to use bright blue plasters?
b) As a pasty white Englishman who can never hope to achieve the deep brown tan of the average plaster, I feel that Ms Zunner-Keating is really erasing and othering me.
b) As a pasty white Englishman who can never hope to achieve the deep brown tan of the average plaster, I feel that Ms Zunner-Keating is really erasing and othering me.
Are you complaining, Sir? ARE you COMPLAINING, Sir??? CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE!!!
/sarc 😉
It’s obvious that she desires that Caucasian studentsnot participate in her class. That’s the only conclusion I can draw from admonitions against and punishments for “demeaning” & “stereotyping” a classmate–words that in our era of “microaggressions” and unknown offenses can mean anything a Maoist professor wants them to mean–combined with the “White Privilege” checklist. Also, note well that punishment accrues to those who “disrespect” the professor, another term which can be deployed at will to eliminate troubling questions in class or object to Leftist orthodoxy. Is there any doubt she probably fantasizes about ruining some random white male student’s life?
…“work with a multitude of grammatical or spelling errors will need to be corrected” in order to receive full credit.
As it has been pointed out repeatedly in these pages, correct grammar and spelling are the white devils’ tools of oppression, I am supposing this rule only to those with dysmelanic privilege.
Or, it seems, consistent.
Regarding that, from the land of the kilt and sporran, we find a student being investigated for a hate crime.
Said hate crime (not being investigated by Edinburg’s version of Sgt. Allen of the Sussex Constabulary) is that he is Islamophobic because he made fun of ISIS on his Faceplace page. We are told by the Clown Quarter, and left in general, that “ISIS is not really Islam”, so how one can be “Islamophobic” of non-Islamists is not clear.
It also seems to have escaped this “professor” that the check-list also stereotypes non-whites by making raging generalisations about them encountering problems universally when shopping, buying sticking plasters, etc.
whose “privileges” include… the ability to find a bandage or adhesive plaster that “more or less matches” their skin colour.
Are there *any* grown ups left in non-STEM academia?
This professor outs herself as a pseudo-intellectual and academic fraud. Anyone who feels compelled to make ferreting out and enumerating negative social slights a focal point of her class, obviously lacks confidence in her own abilities to add anything inherently stimulating or interesting. She senses her own incompetence, thus she elevates controlling speech over elevating student learning.
Are there *any* grown ups left in non-STEM academia?
It’s infantilising woo. But “white privilege” and its correlate “critical race theory” hinge on such things. Which is why, for instance, you’ll find “diversity” advocates claiming that any racial performance variations in STEM subjects must be due to textbooks having too many pictures of white scientists in them. And it’s why you’ll be told, earnestly, that black students as a group only underperform in maths because they’re just too exhausted from “performing whiteness,” i.e., speaking grammatical English and – I quote – “pretending to go on vacations.”
It’s farcical, and insulting to just about everyone; and yet this is where we are now.
@Adam
Well said. She clearly does not wish to have her assertions/pronouncements/pontifications questioned, because she might have to come up with a rational argument based on actual, you know, evidence to support them. Given that in the modern Humanities/Liberal Arts departments, offence and disrespect are determined by the mind/feelz of him who is offended, she can avoid subjecting herself to any rigorous inquiry by simply threatening anyone who questions her with academic sanction.
Undoubtedly, she would look down upon a Marine drill instructor as some horrific monster creating mere automatons, yet in reality, she’s doing the same thing. The only difference is that her automatons won’t attack into an ambush, but rather flee to their safe spaces at the first time their fragile psyches are vexed.
This is a good video on Columbia’s Mattress Girl.
This professor outs herself as a pseudo-intellectual and academic fraud.
Academia is full of pseudo-intellectuals and academic frauds. She’s simply trying to move up the ladder. It’s all quite rational when you realize that the critical mass of our culture long ago lost its intellect and morals. While not entirely mainstream stuff, the mainstream is far more comfortable with these sort of ideas than with the traditions on which Western Civilization was built. I got some of this “privilege” stuff in church, (literally) for Christ’s sakes.
Did you ping? You should have pinged…
I got some of this “privilege” stuff in church, (literally) for Christ’s sakes.
Perhaps a new church is in order. The only “privilege” stuff I’ve heard in mine is the “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and “the wages of sin is death” but “he who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”*
Back in the ’60s when I was a little kid and during the upheaval surrounding the Civil Rights Act during the LBJ administration, my mother tried to explain what was going on by directing me to a song we learned in Sunday School: “Jesus loves the little children; All the children of the world; Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world.” Her addendum: “If we’re all equal in Jesus’s eyes, we’re all equal. Period.”
I took that to heart, but sadly, that make’s me a racist today according to the worthies like Professor Zunner-Keating.
*Obligatory nod to the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s #Occupy protest at the Wittenberg Schlosskirche.
Anthropology 101 Lab at the College of the Canyons. Sounds like an elective course. I mean who goes to community college for serious certification in Anthropology? The quickest way to get rid of these fringe maoists is to stop taking their courses. As we’re seeing at Mizzou, economics are still very real in a leftist fairyland.
I took that to heart, but sadly, that makes me a racist today according to the worthies like Professor Zunner-Keating.
That’s because critical race theory doesn’t entail “equality” or getting folks around the world to act all deontological- whitey must abase himself, otherwise it’s failed.
To paraphrase Orwell- “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a neckbeard prostrating himself in front of ‘Professor’ Zunner-Keating, forever”.

Evergreen, that quote is. < /Yoda voice >
I always like to Google-troll these people when I see their names, sometimes it’s good humour to sniff out their hypocrisies… very impressive wedding photos on her wedding website. She’s quite attractive; high heels, short skirts, highlighted hair. Oh look, did she propose to him?!? How progressive. Quite the upscale wedding and locale as well, no doubt something only a “rich” professor would be able to afford. A professor that no doubt benefited herself from white privilege but of course I see no demonstration of a contrite life.
It will all come crashing down around her and her beta-male’s ears.
In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better.
I find this in large bureaucratic companies, too.
Quite the upscale wedding
I bet there will be a distinct lack of diversity among the guests.
Reminds me of this.
I find this in large bureaucratic companies, too.
Academia too (of course). I just finished my annual “don’t rape the students” training. Boring, insulting to my intelligence, and a complete waste of time (again). But at least my employer can say “we trained him to know better!” if any of the students decide to accuse me of sexual assault.
I find this in large bureaucratic companies, too.
I had that on the wall of my cubicle for several years.
Of course, this was also the place where the general manager kept surreptitiously disconnecting the video conferencing system because he thought it was spying on him. So I’m not sure how much of the lying was malicious, per se.
@R.Sherman, that reminded me of the “Napalm sticks to little children” marching song.
Amanda Zunner-Keating is, going by her Facebook page, very young. It might even be her first year as a professor.
And like many first-time managers, she’s dictatorial and over controlling. She thinks that her position makes her all-powerful within the classroom.
Except it doesn’t. Ultimately students are the customers. People often forget that in higher education, as universities like to give the impression that the administration has all the power, and that students are just lucky to be allowed through the gates. But students are the life blood of any school, and if they decide to go elsewhere then the school is done for.
My guess with this professor is that some of the students will switch out of her class, or choose not to take her class next semester, or file complaints with the administration if she is draconian, or complain to other professors, or call her unflattering names behind her back which will almost certainly get back to her (Social Justice Nazi and so on).
And Z-K will start to realize that being an arsehole is not good for her career, and that her authority is more limited than she thought.
Marketplaces are wonderful things.
R. Sherm:
Perhaps a new church is in order.
Yes, to some extent. I’m not particularly enamored with religion but the pastor at this one gives good sermons. Unfortunately he is moving on. About once a month I sneak in late, after most of the insipid singing is over with, sit in the balcony, and generally get something out of it. This particular instance of being reminded of my privilege occurred not in regular church but in volunteer training. This by some 20-something SJW’s who seemed to have hijacked the program felt we lowly vols needed to be humbled before we approached the holiest of holy homeless. Lest we upset them by letting slip how a productive life might be lived.
Undoubtedly, she would look down upon a Marine drill instructor as some horrific monster creating mere automatons,
Hmmm. Like this one?
Included is the comment that amounts to Look, child, as you appear to miss the point that fire watch announcements are required to wake up everyone, immediately, then you are now on fire watch tonight so that you will learn and thus help support yourself and the rest of us.
Anthropology 101 Lab . . . . . .
No, anthropology is discussed in class.
Anthropology lab occurs when the student goes out independently of the professor, goes out to the sidewalks and other locations where the local population is being studied and assessed.
Perhaps a new church is in order.
Yes, to some extent. I’m not particularly enamored with religion but . . . .
Quite honestly and genuinely, have a look at a fellow named Loch Kelly, also in print and online . . .
The bit where mere faith—Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Pastafariansm, Hail Cthulhu!!!—keeps falling down is when the one telling of it can only proclaim You must believe!! Believe!!! Belieeeeeeeeeve!!!!!—and donate here.
Actual functioning religion is when an individual is able in individually realize Oh, that is what the practice and experience is!!!
—Definitely granting that the followup bitch and a half is coming up with an explanation or definition for someone else which will clearly explain that. In the case of Kelly, the all out advantage is indeed never mind that he’s telling of something, he’s not the point. What he’s managed to come up with is, basically, do the exercise, do, do, there, now focus on that really interesting bit that you are noticing you just experienced for and by yourself, which anyone can and preferably does also experience.
Hal, fideism is a heresy.
David, you simply must look up her wedding. She and her husband fight social injustice with their love and global travel! And where they are married is quite chic and exclusive. I did note on her FB that she apparently knows a very few POC. Perhaps they donate to the happy couple’s “travel registry” (talk about bad taste/tacky)!
fideism is a heresy
Oooh, good for that! . . . Hadn’t run into that one before—and bloody well yes, Murphy’s and Finagle’s laws point out that such will get practiced regardless . . . One such counterargument which one should expect is indeed that the heresy is the reverse . . . !!
The prof has a grade book, Lena Dunham has her Instagram
some 20-something SJW’s
You should start emphasizing what you say by invoking “the White Christ”. See if their heads explode:-D.
the ability to find a bandage or adhesive plaster that “more or less matches” their skin colour.
The obvious solution is to choose among the endless themed band-aids or go with fluorescent colors. Which I do with my pasty-white hide, while recognizing to my chagrin that bright colors look far better against dark skin than pale.
WTP
…we lowly vols needed to be humbled before we approached the holiest of holy homeless.
About 20 years ago, I had the great misfortune to be cornered by a homeless “homeless advocate” selling “homeless” newspapers (I was bemused that such a thing existed). Turns out he was in reality an anarchist who was quite adamant that all closed and re-purposed military bases should be handed over to the “homeless” in their entirety. I had the temerity to ask since he was so energetic about hawking these newspaper/newsletter things, why didn’t he try to find a real job… to which he answered with a snort that he “would NEVER work for The Man”.
I have not met anyone who felt so “entitled” before or since.
The cognitive dissonance in the professor’s objection to stereotyping except for “white privilege” and also in the notion that ISIS-isn’t-Muslim-but-criticism-of-it-is-still-Islamophobia underscores yet again that hypocrisy is the progressives’ modus operandi.
I can only imagine that this professor’s thought processes go like this:
White men have oppressed others for ages, so I’m going to carry out retribution by oppressing them for a few hours a week.
In the magical world of identity politics, guilt is passed down from generation to generation, so even if someone has never done anything wrong in their life, all of the sins of their race and gender rest upon their shoulders. The precise mechanism by which this happens is not yet determined.
This will not be stopped by students not taking those classes. Soon enough the clasdes will be mandatory.
Preferring other schools? Soon enough upper-end schools will be boasting of these requirements, pressuring second-tier schools to follow suit.
Only a wholesale devaluation of non-stem fields will do the trick, and only if it happens before stem fields are infiltrated. Or before sjw courses become a requirement for federal funding.
I can only imagine that this professor’s thought processes go like this
Well, yes, it’s why when our host complains about the lack of consistency or reciprocity in their arguments, I’m always a bit perplexed. It’s not about reciprocity or consistent moral and behavioral standards. It’s about revenge.
it’s why when our host complains about the lack of consistency or reciprocity in their arguments, I’m always a bit perplexed. It’s not about reciprocity or consistent moral and behavioural standards.
I promise it’s a faux naïveté. The thing is, I can’t just jump to the obvious inference regarding motives, or probable motives. I have to make some effort to show that the argument being offered doesn’t stand on its own merits. Happily, the contradictions and double standards are often so glaring, and the reaction to any mention of them so prickly and unconvincing, that the basic psychology is hard to miss.
In the magical world of identity politics, guilt is passed down from generation to generation, so even if someone has never done anything wrong in their life, all of the sins of their race and gender rest upon their shoulders.
Which, as I have seen pointed out on Twitter, would shoot down the major argument against repeal of DACA.
Somewhat related to the post above, Ace takes a pop at the ludicrous racist Ta-Nehisi Coates:
Oh, there’s more.
Which, as I have seen pointed out on Twitter, would shoot down the major argument against repeal of DACA.
So if parents are found to have embezzled funds and hid it in their children’s names/accounts, are we punishing the children for the sins of the parents by returning the money? No one is advocating putting these children in prison, just returning them to their country of origin/citizenship. And that is putting aside another major argument re DACA, that being its constitutionality.
@Zionist Overlord #73
Only a wholesale devaluation of non-stem fields will do the trick, and only if it happens before stem fields are infiltrated.
My son graduated from Harvey Mudd College in 2013. Mudd had been known as a top STEM school since its founding in the 1960’s. Then, Mudd went the SJW/Diversity/Inclusion route, and its reputation has begun to slide.
