I remember this fellow from nearly 50 years ago, when he and his kind first invaded the universities; and was it Anthony Burgess who wrote him up in “The History Man”?

Setting aside the cringe and condescension, it’s another iteration of the same bizarre conceit – that the way to eliminate any remaining traces of prejudice is to stress how different and otherly brown-skinned people are, as if they were akin to elves or leprechauns. As if any attempt at communication first requires a sufficiently woke intermediary, or a decoder ring.

I dunno, I don’t think it that as much as it is another iteration of how much better an idealized (and in this case imaginary) culture is better than anything Western. The first recent go-round that immediately comes to mind was the Orientalism wave of the ’60s and ’70s where anything from the East was inherently more “spiritual” and better than anything from the West – keep your chemo, I’ll meditate, arrange rocks, and eat herbs, and so on. It appears to me that a new continent has been selected as the new totem – just don’t appropriate the culture, or something.

Over here you pay a sales tax to buy a TV, and a couple of taxes on cable service, but there is as yet no tax for just having TVs sitting in your house.
Other than local news and weather, I haven’t watched in at least 10 years. I don’t have the patience any more.

“The History Man” was written by Malcolm Bradbury, and there was a superb TV adaptation starring Anthony Sher as the malevolent sociology lecturer Howard Kirk.

In front of the others Howard calls him a “heavy, anal type” and what he has prepared for class “an anal, repressed paper,” without considering his own apparent hypocrisy any further. In the end he succeeds in having the student, a “historical irrelevance,” expelled from the university”.

An adjunct professor is no kind of professor. It is a term of art for a temporary teacher who is hired to teach a few classes because none of the actual faculty can be persuaded to do so. Adjuncts are generally ignored and left to their own devices. As long as they turn in grades on time and are not the object of serious complaints, they will be renewed to teach another class. Issacson is doing his improvised modern dance interpretation Colin Kaepernick translated to the college campus. It’s the Intersectionality, man!

Is there a single Marxist nutcase in the world who hasn’t taught at an American university? I even found a professor of Economics at the University of Utah who is a Maoist theorist. A Chinese Maoist at that… What the hell has happened to America? This is insanity.
