Better Out Than In, I Suppose
Burdened as she is by deep political insight and enormous talent, Ms Yoko Ono wishes to share something with you.
That is all. Carry on.

On an artistic level I think I prefer this one.

I see you have an ear for these things.
I don’t think she understands how symbolic it is.
I don’t think she understands how symbolic it is.
I suspect that would require a level of self-awareness that’s unavailable to her.
I always think of how badly she treated poor Julian.
Mark Chapman deserves a second chance.
Imagine if Yoko never hooked up with John Lennon. It’s easy if you try.
I’d like to thank our host for keeping us up to date on arts and culture.
You deserve no less.
Oh, that sounds like a nasty case of constipation. I wonder if I should recommend Dulcolax to the eminent lady.
Oh, that sounds like a nasty case of constipation.
More like a kidney stone, and Yoko is living proof that P.T. Barnum was right.
The scary thing is somewhere, someone finds that profound.
oh geez, when will the accusations and whining stop?
Mr William Burr offers a critique of Ms Ono:

…when will the accusations and whining stop?
Lindy West – histrionic well known to those who frequent Dave’s Place – never, in her case.
Part the first, a BFO, seeing as how “we” (meaning they, of course) failed rather miserably at that. Part the second, she might want to take note that “we” (meaning they, of course) were beaten like a Chinese gong in local elections.

When you surround yourself with clowns, don’t be surprised when a circus breaks out.
We have “children to teach”. Did the rest of you see this b^tch? Careful. Stomach turning.

Did the rest of you see this b^tch?
Leftist parent of the year.
What amazes me is that she actually made a video of her abhorrent behavior and posted it for others to see. Is she expecting applause?
Is she expecting applause?
Again, there are levels of self-awareness that are cruelly / hilariously unavailable to some people.
True narcissism is the abandonment of the self in favor of the image, as you know, David. How can you be aware of that which no longer exists?
Narcissus himself was entranced as he stared, not at his self, but his image. Then he fell in and drowned.
How nice to hear from some one who married a rich, famous person.
Is she expecting applause?
I think it probably helps if you don’t conceive of your political preferences as a substitute religion. That way, you’re less likely to use your own children as props in some ongoing psychodrama, or to mistreat them as in the video above, or to drag them into heated scuffles and use them to block fire escapes, as happened during several Occupy protests, or to put four-year-olds on train tracks to show how radical you are.
Is she expecting applause?
Won’t this ultimately backfire? One can only lie to kids for so long before they realize that Santa doesn’t exist. The difference is, most of us don’t begrudge our parents fibbing to bring happiness to our lives. Turning a childhood into a fabricated nightmare is a different matter entirely.
We have abortion pills to stockpile…and children to teach
Um…
Turning a childhood into a fabricated nightmare is a different matter entirely.
Presuming the kids actually grow up. No guarantee these days.
Somewhere, in a campus safe space in America, a future president is coloring in a coloring book.
Amid the post-election campus hysteria, with its “safe spaces,” therapy dogs, optional exams, etc., Glenn Reynolds adds this:
That, as they say.
One more time.

It should be on a T-shirt, really.
Presuming the kids actually grow up. No guarantee these days.

Speaking of which…
And in case some of you have forgotten it, let’s revisit this.
No, don’t thank me. The pleasure was all mine.
They scrubbed it from their site: http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/29922/
Don’t know if they canceled it, tho. Insty:
Forgive the repetition.
One can only lie to kids for so long before they realize that Santa doesn’t exist.
Isn’t John Lewis now being castigated for cruelly destroying that myth with their current Christmas advert?

On the upside, they do sell some awfully nice shirts.
[ Strokes self. ]
Here, let me make up for the repetition by providing Steyn, on 11/11:
Emphasis mine.
As has been frequently observed here, the Left collectively functions as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (and Borderline for the feminists). One of the “tells” of NPD is that whatever they accuse you of, that’s what they’re up to, and the hell of it is that you can never, EVER get them to see that.
They’re like trees growing in the mouth of a canyon: when young they were pliable, but they’ve grown into a bent position and you can’t straighten them up without breaking them.
I understand how people are delighted in watching left-wing angst, but I find it disturbing more than anything. It reinforces that we’re dealing with some genuinely dangerous people who may affect snowflake delicacy but who will also Go Nazi as Dorothy Parker predicted.
If and when a hot civil war breaks out the remains of the Republic, I know who will throw the first punch and also who will play dirtier.
And the side that plays dirtiest is usually the side to win. The Kulaks, alas, are unavailable for comment.
I’d also like to randomly observe that if you’re struggling with a depressive episode, reading Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” is not an apt remedy.
Let’s revisit this
Why the sudden burst of sadism, David?
BTW, I may be mistaken, but I believe Yoko links are an AoSHQ version of a “rickroll”.
I got into quite a few post-election Twitter volleys with people from both sides: protest sympathizers and Trumpistas alike.
I was able to talk a black man off the ledge (somewhat) regarding the danger he is NOT in from a Trump admin. Got to the point where we mutually followed each other because he seemed a decent chap who’d also happened believed all the awful things people said Trump would usher in regarding minorities, and he was genuinely afraid. Lives in the suburbs, married to a white woman, resents the “poor, urban, stupid” stereotype of black men that came from Trump the consummate New Yorker. (Can’t say i blame him.)
During that dialog, though (the purpose of which was to see if I could find one reasonable person from the other side to reason with), a couple of Trump supporters creeped in (emphasis on “creep”), and one accused me of trying to convince the black man that I was one of the “good white people.”
(Which, maybe I was, but that’s not a bad thing if he turns out to be reasonable enough to listen. And he did.)
The creepy guys got into the Trumpista chauvinism and denying that the alt-right is white nationalism (but even if it were, what’s wrong with that, because SJWs), and I had to mute the both of them after awhile because they were indulging in the same creepy identity politics that the Left indulges, only with the polarity reversed.
“It’s only natural for people to prefer their own kind,” said one whose entire Twitter identity was wrapped up in neo-Templar iconography and being the “chaplain” of the new whatever movement. Reclaiming Western Culture or something.
He became apoplectic over my insistence that nature is fallen and so we shouldn’t call it good just because it’s natural. “How dare you dismiss God’s natural order of THINGS?” he sputtered. After which I pointed out that God himself declared Nature to be Fallen and then hit the Moo-tay button.
I’m 53 and life is too short.
The fact that SJWs did in fact birth this reactionary white chauvinism does not make it anodyne nor irrelevant nor a way to balance things out. As I’ve explained before, a photo and its negative are intimately related—the negative is “not a remedy nor a repudiation and definitely not an improvement” over the photo.
Cultural identity isn’t itself a problem, but when you mix ANYTHING with politics—which is another word for “power struggle”—that thing is destroyed. I would hate to see the last vestiges of Western Civ discredited for decades because people who rightly identify the SJW excesses (so carefully cataloged in this blog) become the very unflattering photo-negative of their opponents.
I hope I don’t have to emphasize here that the ethos of Western Civ is individualism, judging a man by his character instead of the circumstances of his birth, and recognizing the humanity in your opponent (even if it’s excruciatingly hard to do in the case of Generation Snowflake) to the point of coming to a decent compromise.
And most of all, that anyone who comes to America and adopts the American civic religion (so to speak) is someone who you’d welcome as a neighbor any day of the week and twice on Sunday. (I’ll leave it to the Brits to translate that into their own vernacular.)
Things will get worse before they get better. Our only hope is that college students are naturally receptive to the idea that their elders (faculty and staff) are full of it, regardless of what “IT” is.
One last thing: Good news this time.
We had an all-hands meeting on Wednesday for our company, the largest IT security company in the world, headquartered in Silicone Valley. (San Fransisco Bay Area.)
(I was originally hired by a scrappy little start-up [ <100 employees], which was acquired by a medium-sized company [~1500 employees], and recently acquired by the struggling behemoth [~11,000 employees]. Lucky for the behemoth, the CEO of the middle-sized company is now the CEO of the big one and he's installed his people in the top positions. It will struggle no more.)
During the Q&A, someone asked him what the implications of the U.S. elections were for the company. He recognized what he was really being asked and very wisely said, “IT security is a bipartisan issue. Full stop.”
Didn’t say anything to indicate which side he favored, didn’t make any stray comments or take any gratuitous digs, which might mean he’s not left-wing at all. The man is Australian (love the accent) and so is statistically likely to be a garden-variety Ozzie liberal, but maybe he’s just smart. (Started out as a software developer, but turns out he’s really good at running companies. That combination of skills is as rare as conservatives in academia.)
Some years ago, right after his medium company acquired my start-up, he stated that as a company we would not fulfill requests by national governments to spy on their citizens. We have the technology to do what Snowden revealed that the NSA was doing; however, the product line of the medium company cannot be purchased off the shelf and installed by customers: professionals from our company have to survey the existing network, determine the requirements, and do the installation.
So we can decide what gets sold to whom.
(That said, we sell our wares to ministries of defense and other gubmint agencies world-wide, but they’re deployed to protect the gubmint networks against hacking, not to see what’s happening outside their .gov or .mil domains.)
Anyway, it is good to see someone in a position of power and influence turn down the opportunity to be a total ass, as Glenn Lowry, Director of the Museum of Modern Art (described in the Steyn link in a previous post of mine).
Given the length and number of my recent comments I can see that the ADDerall has kicked in and it’s time to do the dishes.
@Di
Silicone Valley? I thought that was in L.A. Or the Vegas Strip. 😀
Oh, and BTW, I agree with your sentiments regarding the so-called “Alt-Right.” I think there’s a good likelihood that many, if not most, are agents provocateur.
Yoko should sell that as a ringtone.
Di,
Speaking of Steyn,
This week, almost two decades after the Starr Report, the Clintons finally reached what Ken called “completion”. To coincide with the new bargain rates for Chelsea’s speeches on diarrhea in Africa, SteynOnline is also holding an everything-must-go sale as we frantically unload roomfuls of Clinton columns we are never going to need again.
Oh please let that be so!
We had an all-hands meeting on Wednesday for our company, the largest IT security company in the world, headquartered in Silicone Valley. (San Fransisco Bay Area.)
Hmmm. Anywhere near a Bart station?
I believe I will start wearing a diaper pin as a signal that the buttercups should grow up.
I dunno, those things look kinda pointy and dangerous, Darleen. Unsafe!
Silicone Valley? I thought that was in L.A. Or the Vegas Strip
Foiled by spellcheck.
Silicon
But then, I’m in software, not hardware.
Ain’t been around much as I was pursuing a life of Zen. But these fucking crybabies have done busted me out of it! I got long important emails from two different travel agencies, the spokestwats of each nattering on that even though the WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD has been elected president, they will still offer cheap airfare. My Facebook feed ranges from those who are determinedly determined not to react, to those who are in full screaming hysteria YOU DID THIS TO US YOU WANT US TO DIE TRUMP WILL KILL US ALL AND YOU WILL LET HIM!!!eleventy!! complete with gratuitous safety pins, threats to go murder Trump, and more threats to shut down the entire country, if they can keep their crybaby focus long enough. My GAWD, David, I don’t know why it is, but when I found my Zen had got completely fucked up today, I instantly thought of you…
Oh, and AGAIN there’s this bullshit about “safe houses” and “underground railroads” for LGBTQ etc. people and women seeking abortions, as certainly Trump HATES the GAYS and TEH Wimmen seeking abortions, and they’ll have to hide in the shadows and dart around at night and the SAFETY PINS!!!
