Elsewhere, Ms Bouattia has claimed that the creation of censorious “safe spaces” and the banning of non-leftist speakers (or insufficiently leftist speakers) is done in order to “challenge the conditions that currently make voices unequal.” Which is to say, members of Designated Victim Groups are apparently unable to formulate convincing arguments in debate – due to the “physical threat” of hearing different opinions – and therefore, being brown or female or whatever, need special favours from the leftist priesthood. And deference from everyone else.
And all of this “oppression” – whereby “marginalised students” are denied “the comfort to speak” and are “being kept silent” – is supposedly taking place in some of the most coddling and indulgent environments on Earth, where political correctness is an institutional default, where women outnumber men, and where the pretence of victimhood, however absurd, is a ticket to both status and preferential treatment.

Ah, of course. It’s not the insane conspiracy theories, the totalitarian impulses, the pretentious victimhood, the preposterous sense of entitlement or the endless self-flattery. It’s because she’s so radical and edgy.

After all, The individual can and does get out of this gutter, the Actions and Indicators and Behavior do not.

The resulting echo chamber, with its regurgitation of boilerplate and smug homogeneity, doesn’t really prepare you for even the mildest challenge. Attempts to restrict and prohibit thought rarely lead to sound arguments or a nimbleness of mind.
