Don’t Oppress My People With Your Branded Headphones
More intellectual life at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire:
“Fuck you, you filthy white fucks!” “Fuck you and your comfort!” “Fuck you, you racist shits!” These shouted epithets were the first indication that many students had of the coming storm. The sign-wielding, obscenity-shouting protesters proceeded through the usually quiet backwaters of the library… and converged around fellow students who had not joined in their long march. They confronted students who bore “symbols of oppression” such as “gangster hats” and Beats-brand headphones.
The flood of demonstrators opened the doors of study spaces with students reviewing for exams. Those who tried to close their doors were harassed further. One student abandoned the study room and ran out of the library. The protesters followed her out of the library, shouting obscenities the whole way. Students who refused to join their outbursts were shouted down: “Stand the fuck up!” “You filthy racist white piece of shit!” Men and women alike were pushed and shoved by the group. “If we can’t have it, shut it down!” they cried. Another woman was pinned to a wall by protesters who unleashed their insults, shouting “filthy white bitch!” in her face.
Vain little monsters projecting their own vices and relishing the sensation of power over others.
Update, via the comments:
Naked malice aside, there’s an almost surreal aspect to consider. The so-called “activists” claim to be besieged by unseen forces and “oppressed” by “structural racism on campus” – a phenomenon they can’t point to or even define convincingly – and yet their own behaviour illustrates the perversity of this pretence. Those acting out their psychodrama clearly assume they can do so with impunity, with no apparent fear of expulsion or reprimand, or physical resistance. And were the tribal roles reversed and a white mob were harassing women, shoving students with browner skin, and screaming racial epithets, the institutional response would doubtless be very, very different.
Even this supporter of the movement, a student who frets about his own “white privilege,” was appalled by the mob’s behaviour:
They kept shouting and started banging on tables. They demanded that people stand up to show their solidarity. Those who did not stand were targeted and questioned. There was a girl studying in one of the study rooms… and the protestors stormed the room. She closed the door on one of the protestors which resulted in rage from many protestors. The girl then exited silently through the crowd while protestors screamed at her calling her a white bitch. At one point the protestors crowded around a guy sitting at his laptop and stared at him, screaming at him, ‘If we can’t study, you can’t study.”
And,
After making a girl cry, a protestor screamed “Fuck your white tears.”
Don’t you just love that Maoist vindictiveness? It’s what utopia is made of.
Update 2, via Spiny Norman in the comments, the narcissistic psychodrama reaches level 2:
Dartmouth College has responded to intensely negative national media coverage over a Black Lives Matter protest that harassed white students by issuing an apology, not to the students who were harassed, but instead to the protesters themselves for being subject to conservative criticism… During a Monday night community discussion at the school’s black affinity dormitory, vice provost for student affairs Inge-Lise Ameer apologised to protesters for the hostile coverage their protest received. “There’s a whole conservative world out there that’s not being very nice,” Ameer said to the protesters.
And,
College president Phil Hanlon sent out a campus-wide email that affirmed the importance of treating people with “dignity and respect” but made no mention of the Thursday protest that obviously prompted it.
As I said, impunity.
Update 3:
Those with a taste for ludicrous emotional theatre may enjoy this video, in which Dartmouth’s vice provost for student affairs apologises to the gathered “activists” for the unflattering media coverage of their racist thuggery. Thuggery that, she insists, was “a wonderful, beautiful thing.” Her dismissal of critics as “conservatives,” and therefore the enemy, prompts animated applause, spurring one of the students to shout, “They’re fucking racists!” By which he means, people who drew attention to the students’ own overtly racist behaviour. Such is the effrontery of it, the colossal vanity. An inversion of reality actively encouraged, structurally encouraged, by so-called educators. This is what happens when your Designated Victim Group is a protected class.
There are plenty of people in this world who can rightly be called oppressed, some horrifically so. And none of them are spending $60,000 a year to piss about on an Ivy League campus, while bemoaning the trauma of seeing white people wearing fashionable headphones.
Update 4:
Just in case any doubt remains.
[RESPONSE] “Why don’t you fuck off, you racist…”
Of course, the reply will be that by definition they can’t be racist, because they don’t have power. This even though the administration is backing them up, and not the respondents.

It’s an ideology, a worldview, that appeals to people who don’t mind lying. And indeed enjoy it.

Gangster hat.
Gangster hat.
The Patriarchy trembles.
Inge-Lisa Ameer, seen above applauding racist thugs and hailing their thuggery as “a wonderful, beautiful thing,” offers an apology, albeit belatedly and under pressure:
Despite her gushing endorsement of overtly racist intimidation, Ms Ameer is still the vice provost for student affairs. Apparently, non-leftist students are expected to believe that her apology is sincere, and not merely a result of being caught on camera, and that her earlier comments weren’t.
Gangster hat.
No, gangster hat in this context is “gangsta” and refers to any blocked, high crown, flat billed baseball cap with sportsball team, drug related, city related (e.g. “Compton”) or other logo like these, worn with the bill pointed any direction other than forward, with all tags and labels still affixed, often under a hoodie, or over a doorag or bandana.
For a white honkey cracker of the Caucasian persuasion to wear one of these is cultural appropriation, completely disregarding that baseball and caps were the invention of Abner Doubleday, noted person of pallor.
Through listening, I now know that not everyone agreed with the tactics deployed by those protesting.
It didn’t occur to her before…? Harassing people, shoving women, screaming racist abuse – she thought that was okay?
Despite her gushing endorsement of overtly racist intimidation, Ms Ameer is still the vice provost for student affairs.
Of course she is. Does any lefty ever get fired for this shit?

I’m just thrilled to discover that my readers are so switched on to the subtleties of youth fashion.
Keep it real, people. *fist bump*
completely disregarding that baseball and caps were the invention of Abner Doubleday, noted person of pallor
Well, yes, most inventions are indeed the work of some person of pallor, usually cis-male (am I using the prefix cis correctly? I get confused with new-fangled stuff). I think that the attitude that is prevalent in these protesters is, to a not insignificant degree, related to the fact that deep down they realize they are indeed out of place, not mentally equipped to deal with the civilization around them. You’ll note that very few of the protesters if any are STEM students. This is not solely due to the fact that STEM students are nerds (which they are. Ask me how I know), it’s also related to the fact that said STEM students look at the world around them and figure that, yes, they understand it, they can contribute to it, and they have a sense of ownership about it. Whereas the protesters do not, and like the Vandals in Ancient Rome, can only think of destroying this symbol of the others’ superiority that has for inexplicable reasons fallen into their hands.
STEM students also tend to have IQs significantly higher than those taking Pretentious Grievance Studies.
I’m just thrilled to discover that my readers are so switched on to the subtleties of youth fashion.
Indeed, veritable slaves to fashion so as to identify to which tribe an individual might belong.
For example, an unstructured cap with curved bill, all tags and labels removed, with a sportsball or similar logo, worn with the bill forward generally indicates a normal American, if it is in camo and/or has an agricultural label, it might indicate a normal rural American, or someone pretending to be. Someone who wears an “operators cap” will generally bore you to death with tales of being a Navy SEAL Space Shuttle Door Gunner. You weren’t there, man. There is also the “truckers cap” with a high structured front and mesh back which used to be associated with, oddly enough, truckers, but then came to be associated with guys with two first names and a beat up Camaro, but now have been co-opted by hipster douchebags, ironically, of course. There are also “golf visors”, but people who wear these should be shunned as if a leper.
Obviously these are generalizations and there can be overlap (e.g., a sportsball trucker cap worn gangster style), but this is none the less a quick field guide as to whom you might find under a bad lid.
For example…

The results could be worse than you imagine.
Don’t get too comfortable there, Hedgehog. The STEM students are slowly falling in line. The Norks do have the bomb, you know. It can happen here, over a long enough time.

Until now.
OK, I admit it. I have unashamedly lurked for many hours. I have also committed my very own widow’s mite into your bottomless tip jar.
I love your blog. I think that the memes, tropes, themes, and bollocks that you remorselessly expose to the light of human jocularity are ancient tat which should have died in the mid-eighties, but, like zombies (sans bizarre political commentary) linger. This nonsense was exposed thirty years ago as middle-class posturing, but somehow lives on and gains extraordinary power in the heart of academia — right across the industrialised world.
When I was an idealistic youngster I crucified myself (and my marriage) upon the altar of “all men, however gentle and unassuming, are rapists”. You might struggle to believe this, but the Socialist Workers Party (of all things) found the escape pod from this batshit hell by declaiming suddenly and entirely unexpectedly that “MEN DO NOT BENEFIT FROM WOMENS’ OPPRESSION”. What a relief. Sadly, the SWP is now a Jihadist cheerleader and favours (against all Marxist and Engelian [is that a word?] doctrine) de-industrialisation.
The assertion of righteousness based upon imagined “oppression” is by no means a new phenomenon. White “revolutionaries” were shamed into submission by black activists as far back as 1978. As were white feminists.
Where I would (humbly) disagree with you is in the notion that the systematic neoconservative military interventions into the hideous Ba’athist Stalinist Pan-Arabist dictatorships has actually helped anyone. While I agree wholeheartedly that those regimes where hideous and ghastly, I can’t concur that anything subsequent is in any way better.
Anyway, despite my reservations, please keep up the good work.
Don’t get too comfortable there, Hedgehog.
I’m not comfortable at all, with any of it. I was born in Germany not too long after the end of the Second World War. The willingness of scientists and engineers to put their ability at the service of evil ideologies is something on which I have reflected at some length, and I do fear that some of the STEM students who are currently not participating in these protests will at some point be co-opted by the masses in movement. My point was a different one. Stuart Taylor Jr. makes it cogently here:
http://spectator.org/articles/64739/little-understood-engine-campus-unrest-racial-admissions-preferences
If I were smarter about the technological aspects of this I’d also link you to Stuart Taylor and Richard Sander’s book, but since I don’t know how to make sure that the link gets you to amazon through the required gateway to provide the appropriate toll payment to our host I’ll just leave you with the name of the book:
“Mismatch: How Affirmative Action Hurts Students It’s Intended to Help, and Why Universities Won’t Admit It”
…around wearing hats and headphones — not, I would have thought, great when studying, but I am old-fashioned
You are old-fashioned I’m afraid. University libraries tend to be rather noisy places now, even the quiet areas, so having something to dull the ambient din is actually rather useful.
..until you realise that these creatures will leave university expecting to occupy positions of influence.
What’s more worrying is that some of them will probably manage it too.
