There are 957 pages of those covers with each page averaging about 3 covers. So you have almost 2900 covers of books.
Strangely, those 2900 books collectively have only two plots.

The resulting forced consensus may give them a sense of Speaking For The People™. Hence the bewildered dismay on discovering that the range of views in play extends beyond those typically aired by middle-class leftwing students.

Yank needs some help with perception on UK politics again…I’m seeing a touting of an Obama victory in that “his man” Cameron won. It would seem to me Cmdr. Zero would be much more comfortable with Labor/Labour if not Lib-Dem…if not SNP…if not the outright Socialists. I think I know the answer to this but I’m still not clear as I got this headline from Fox on Google. Does Cameron actually like Zero? Was Millibrand somehow personally uncomfortable with him?
And BTW, I see it’s the 70th anniversary of VE-Day. Just thought it somewhat coincidentally worthy of note…or not, depending on perception, reality, stuff like that.

In the same way that there was a Macmillan-Kennedy and Bush-Blair connection, I think it’s pretty clear that the current POTUS prefers Cameron as PM. In theory, the US-UK relationship should be based on Republicans being mates with Conservatives, and Democrats cosying up to Labour. But that doesn’t always happen.
In this case, it is clear that Obama had no time for Miliband. He probably remembered his role in the Syria vote in Parliament in August 2013, where the Labour leader first indicated he’d support air-strikes in response to the Ghouta Sarin attacks, then backtracked when the hard-left backbenchers in his party kicked off, and then delivered a mendacious speech which fooled very few.
His most recent boasts about ‘standing up to President Obama’ over Syria probably made matters worse.
Above all, and while I get the impression you don’t think much of the current POTUS, I would give him a degree of credit for being a judge of character. Because he clearly realised that Miliband was a fucking cunt, and that he wasn’t fit to run a bath, let alone a country.

the phrase “it takes one to know one” comes to mind. Ungracious as it sounds. Yes, there has never been a president in my lifetime I’ve held in such contempt. I never felt Carter, for all his faults past and present, held this country in contempt. I only thought he just didn’t get it and thus his damage was benign. Oft times I’m not so sure about BHO.

In the Independent, the socialist comedian and 80s hangover Mark Steel is doing the usual self-flattering contortions. He describes himself as “numb” and “dumbfounded,” as “consumed with horror but entirely mystified,” as if the election result were on a par with a reversal of gravity or the Moon turning purple.
Mr Steel believes that Miliband lost so catastrophically because of those every-ready bogeymen – “Rupert Murdoch and the wealthy.” You see, it’s all about “the power of Murdoch.” It’s telling that Steel simply dismisses the agency of the electorate, who, in his mind, are strangely peripheral, mere dupes of dark forces. For him, it’s inconceivable that lots of people could have made up their own minds, found Labour wanting or simply ludicrous, and voted accordingly. Because how could anyone possibly find a leftist agenda unattractive?

About twenty years ago ‘Viz’ did a one-off strip called ‘Lenny Left’. My Google searches have failed to dig it out, but I can recall (and Wikipedia confirms) that it was about a ‘radical’ comedian whose tedious activism and hackneyed pieces of ‘socialist street theatre’ attracts the complete disinterest of the general public.
I don’t know if Chris Donald ever encountered Mark Steel, but ‘Lenny Left’ bears a striking resemblance to him.
Steel is ex-SWP, although he still shares that obnoxious little cult’s worldview. His employment by the ‘Independent’ as a columnist was one of those milestones (along with the hiring of Robert Fisk and Johann Hari) that marked the slow decline of what was once a serious broadsheet into what one blogger called ‘The ‘Daily Mail’ for people who recycle’.
