The typical American, and can probably extend this to Western civilian in general, is so completely brainwashed I fear there is no turning back. People I have known most of my life, “smart” people, class leaders, team leaders, managers, former teachers, etc. have been exposing their profound ignorance quite regularly to me over the last few years but especially in the last few months. The confidence with which they ‘know’ things that simply aren’t so. The denial that words have specific meanings, that events have consequences, have them blinded to reality. I’d be willing to bet that this guy still, and to the day he dies, believes that nothing serious is happening here. He is quite confident because the septic soup in which he swims is his total experience. Everyone else he knows believes the same things. The media, the culture, everyone he looks up to. Thus, #Truth. Many of them literally, physically even, cannot turn back because at this point they lack the thinking skills to navigate outside of Teh Narrative.

The next instalment in this type of saga usually begins, “But I’m on your side!”
Given that the “chill dawg” comment was made at a time when hours of footage of the so-called ‘protests’ was readily available, and the motives in play hard to miss, the denial of reality looks very much like a choice, not an improbable oversight.

Not all of it is explicitly willful ignorance. A smart, politically active person I know brought up the “anonymous federal agents are snatching people in Portland” thing. I pointed out that there had been 45 days of continuous rioting by then. He literally had no idea _any_ unrest had been happening. He didn’t believe me, but another person in the group who lives just across the border from Portland confirmed it from direct experience. The first guy was openly stunned to hear this. On the other hand, he will (like so many others I know) continue to trust his current news sources despite this 2×4 level revelation he is being mislead. Where this endless well of credibility comes from, I don’t know.
On a semi-related note, I think our host could make money by selling a T-shirt that had a hand holding a 2×4 piece of lumber labeled “reality” with the tag line “The beatings will continue until enlightenment occurs”. I’d buy one.

In my experience most people do not know what led to the National Guard being called into Kent, Ohio, nor do they know why a group of Guardsmen opened fire on a group of “protesters”.

Given how long this nonsense has been going on and the lack of a boogaloo appearing I’m wondering if someone on the leftward side might be planning to start one. It does actually indicate a large amount of restraint being exercised by those to the right of centre that there hasn’t been more violence. They don’t seem to be quite the blood thirsty fascist savages that BLM and their fellow travellers make them out to be. Strange that.

Evidently there are witnesses who say he pointed that weapon at the driver before being shot, and another protestor opened fire on the car after Foster was shot.
Peacefully.
We’ll see how this eventually shakes out but I’m sure the lawyers are lined up to civilly sue the driver right now.
