Good grief – what a pant load of box-ticking crap. When did overweight bull dyke become a protected class? Or is she supposed to be a trans man and therefore cutting-edge? She looks like that fire chief lieutenant of LA, who proudly would leave someone to die in a burning building because “they got themselves into a bad situation”.
It’s funny I’ve always imagined the Lair of Evil’s henchlesbians to be a little on the mannish side, but still definitely female, and fit. And deadly, but not in the sit on you and smother you to death sort of way like this spandex-coated tub of lard. More Bond, and less…whatever the heck that is.
And that Klingon – an embarrassment to the race. Even Worf, in all his civilized glory would be embarrassed for the guy.
It’s like writers don’t write stories anymore, and actors don’t act anymore. They just go down the list ticking off body types, skin colors, ways to swap genetic material, make sure the obligatory person in a wheelchair is present. People are just there, going through some motions, saying some words. Explosions happen. Rinse, repeat.
I guess ST:TNG had all that box ticking, and I was young and didn’t notice it. I liked Geordi. He was blind, but he had the visor and could do his job like any other member of the team. Sometimes his visor came in handy as he could see stuff others couldn’t. Was I just young and stupid or did they have a better story in with The Message?
There’s something to be said for the Old Ways. I mean, the whole stomping thing seems morally preferable to a society in which criminals are unmolested and therefore emboldened, and their victims are resigned to a kind of moral impotence.
Resigned to the status of prey.
A society in which official help isn’t coming, or certainly isn’t coming in time, and in which you’re not allowed to respond directly, or to intervene when others are being menaced or preyed upon, without fear of being punished yourself in life-ruining ways, would seem to be the worst possible option.
Yet here we are.

Which is why we see endless fake and staged events, making it difficult to tell real from not-real.

Yeah. Been there. A recent FB discussion regarding a child who was in a fight on his school bus, bullied his mother said, is typical of why this is. I said that one big thing that needs to change is that children, especially boys but at elementary school level equally to girls, is that they need to, and have every God given right to fight back. I felt bad for the kid. He was maybe nine and in the picture of him getting off the bus his face was all bloodied. Later found out that the blood was from a cut from the zipper of a backpack that was getting thrown around, but initially it looked like a severe beat down. While I wasn’t alone in suggesting this, other men did speak up, I was about the only one who followed through. As the discussion went on I was encouraged to see a wee bit of support from some of the women there but most of the women were against me.
This was a predominantly conservative news group, in a predominantly conservative city (St. Augustine). The mother and several of the women arguing against me had a lot of rah-rah Charlie Kirk stuff on their walls. Women want to be victims, they identify with being losers. Most. Even some of the best. I have had similar difficulties trying to get through the thick heads of a certain Olympic champion swimmer and her rah-rah feminism friends as to why their bashing men isn’t helping their fight against men with dicks in their locker rooms. I was told, “you aren’t an ally”. You can imagine how hurt my feelz was.

Pitiful. What is worse is other republicans who actually made the effort to vote (or say they did) making excuses for those who didn’t. Losers, the lot of them.

He says things. Thoughts, not so much.
Rich Myer (aka YaBoiZack) has been pointing out that the Drinker has been phoning in outrage bait for a couple of years now and with this video I’m starting to wonder if he’s outright trolling his own audience now. When the bulk of the video is arguing about the realism of bridge design on bloody Star Trek you’re not listening to a serious person.
Myer’s point is that the Drinker has to stay on top of the nerdrage du jour, whether there’s any meat there or not, and so many of his videos are just him watching a trailer and saying “everything new bad hurr hurr” over and over. Or he’s just watching a trailer for something that’s been released and he couldn’t be arsed to actually watch.
Star Trek was always about The Message. TOS was explicitly about getting leftwing propaganda on the air by hiding it in a kids’ show because the network censors didn’t pay as much attention to those. Yes, the story was better but that’s not a high bar given current network television standards.
Go back and watch any of the shows of your childhood without the nostalgia goggles and one of two things will become apparent: either you’ll notice all the jokes and references they put in for the adults that went over your head, and you’ll appreciate the show even more, or you’ll see how shit it always was now that you understand what good writing, acting and direction looks like.
