Friday Ephemera
Freshly baked, you see. || Don’t blame me for suddenly punching you in the face. || Bad, a cover version. || Today’s word is inadvisable. || A lively neighbourhood. || Scenes of niche dexterity. || Think happy thoughts, comrade. || A challenging restoration. || Yes, there will be a test on Friday. || Spend your money on “feminist studies.” || It needs to be set on fire, she says. || It seems that only some men are allowed to dress up as women. || Underside. || Whee. (h/t, STG) || Caution, variable gravity. || Lomanstraat, Amsterdam. || Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. || Erratic steel, rather hot. || “They took a look at my crotch and said ‘Wow, that’s amazing!’” || And finally, have you mastered your demon pronouns?
But here’s another thing that doesn’t seem right about this story, if the camerawoman is in position to do her job, there’s a big Hollywood movie camera that she is standing/sitting behind. According to the story the bullet hit her with enough force to travel through her and wound the director such that he also was taken to a hospital. If AB is pointing the gun at the camera it seems the bullet should likely have hit the camera which likely should have absorbed a significant amount of the energy from the bullet. Not saying it’s impossible for the bullet to get through an open space nor that it could not have ricocheted in some manner. But whichever scenario seems a bit unlikely. Not impossible but…? And again, why did she need to be sitting downrange of the weapon? Even my dental hygienist leaves the room when she takes my teeth x-rays. Gee, I wonder if there’s security camera footage or…wait a minute…
Oh, and one OTHER thing, I saw a report that the costume Baldwin was wearing was taken as evidence because it had blood on it. Now possibly he rushed to one of the victims after the shooting and got blood on him that way but if it’s spattered blood, that raises more questions.
Yes – and “the buck stops here,” to quote Harry Truman. The under-funding was someone’s decision, as was the (reported) replacement of union hands with non-union, and the selection of an inexperienced armourer.
the selection of an inexperienced armourer.
Ah but this person ticks a few Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (DIE) boxes, and that’s far more important that hiring someone who actually knows what they are doing. Look at the US federal government under the current administration – they’re showing us the way to DIE.
You stop requiring standards in school, at uni, and beyond and hire people based on box-ticking, and it is inevitable that somewhere along the way unserious people who don’t know what they are doing, but who think very highly of themselves are gonna cause some accidents. So some people die. Eggs, omelettes, you know the drill.
FedUpLabRat: Are you ComputerLabRat?
Walt Kelly weighs in:

Does anybody know what collection Pity the Poor Rat is from?
FedUpLabRat: Are you ComputerLabRat?
Aye, tis I. My apologies for the faux pas. Was not trying to sock puppet, but twas more of a reflection of current state of mind. I’ll go back to the old nom de blog.
No apologies needed: It was easy to speculate that the situation was exactly as you state. And FedUpLabRat is a good nom de blog, too.
I have signed a few comments here with alternate names for humorous or sarcastic purposes. The Protein Wisdom Twitter account kept changing names, but always something beginning with “Mulder’s…” At least that was the case until it was suspended for publishing unapproved facts.
Does anybody know what collection “Pity the Poor Rat” is from?

Thanks PST – I had heard of Pogo in a general way, but not anything about who wrote it. I need to find me some Pogo books – I wonder if online used booksellers have any I can afford. Worth a poke around!

Prices vary by condition, you might find “good condition” books affordable. Somebody (Fireside books?) republished all the books back in the late 80’s or 90’s, but I didn’t find out until they were all gone. [ insert drawing of a moody Porky Pine ]
