Friday Ephemeraren’t
Because you need the practice, a chance to throw together your own pile of links and oddities in the comments. I’ll set the ball rolling with a thing that’s good to know; an impressive pecker; scenes of empowerment; a man in a rush; and a skillset of sorts.
Oh, and a tale about microwave ovens and reanimated hamsters.
by avoiding pronouns whatsoever and simply using his/her/their name
I’m sure that attention-seeking narcissists would love this option, hearing their name repeated instead of s/he/it/their.
Heh.
Now apply this situation to nearly everything taught in our education system, not just in the dirty corners of STEM, but in the non-STEM moderately (maybe) objective subjects such as history then beyond into the most BS of fields…

My own protocol is to use whatever I damn well please.
Apropos to my last comment, does anyone know the protocol for people with multiple pronouns?
As was pointed out on a previous thread, either by Farnsworth or Squid or …?, how often does such a thing even come up? These are third person pronouns. You would only be using them in virtually all cases when the person whose offense would be taken is not around. It’s just more theater of nothingness.
…the difficulty of translating these pronouns to German…
One article says “Nun erklärt der Popstar, dass er sich als nicht-binär identifiziert” (now declares the Popstar, that he self as non-binary identifies), and another article says “Die Sängerin möchte künftig genderneutral mit «they» und «them» angesprochen werden” (the Singeress wants in future gender-neutrally with “they” and “them” addressed to be). The trouble with German is that everything declares its pronouns, leaving less room to use pronouns for persona-curation or transgression.
…an odd Americo-centric parochialism…
In the past decades French and German media have become very Americanized, far more in sync with the globalist monoagenda. The journalists, belonging to the class for whom an exchange year in an American high school and postgraduate study in Metropolis are rites of passage, speak up-to-date English with very little “satellite delay” in comprehension. The global agenda from the New York Times is delivered instantly into their electronic devices, so it’s more synchronized and immersive than the old days when you had to go to some effort to get your hands on a 36 hour old copy of a US paper.
One of the satisfactions of learning foreign languages used to be to access the diversity of viewpoints that were protected by language barriers. Nowadays there’s less viewpoint diversity, and French and German journalists strive to make sure that language barriers doesn’t get in the way of culture-rotting trends.
how often does such a thing even come up?
In normal spoken conversation, probably not much, and generally not noticed by anyone unless you happen to be chatting with some trigger-happy woke Mao-ling.
I bet it does come up quite often in social media, where the woke footsoldiers can comb through videos, tweets, and posts looking for offense. And also in regular media seeking relevance by talking about these individuals.
What sort of candle has that sort of safety limitation?
Any candle in a jar, which is what this was.
The longer you burn a candle in a jar, the larger the hot liquid wax layer at the top gets. The temperature differential between the hot wax layer and the colder bottom of the candle can cause the glass to crack, spilling hot, flammable wax and burning wick around the candle. Or, the burning wick can drift around in the liquid wax until it comes into contact with the glass jar, with much the same result.
But I thought those were vagina candles and now I don’t know what’s going on anymore. Again.

Vagina candle =/= ear candle.
I’ll let myself out now.

Ah, that makes sense. I suppose heavy stoneware ought to be safer…but not as upscale for Fashion Forward women who crave candles that smell like vaginas.
I bet it does come up quite often in social media…
And elsewhere? One interest group I joined many years ago has now embarked on a woke project to remove “gender bias” from all documents. I fully expect to eventually be corrected on the proper pronouns to use when talking about certain members.

Make work for leftists since they’re incompetent at so many other, meaningful tasks.
Make work for leftists since they’re incompetent at so many other, meaningful tasks.
Or more of the usual manipulative mindset:
Create problems, offer yourself as the solution.
When I was in university, candles and paraffin lamps were all the rage amongst the hippy-wicca set. That stopped after a couple of them burned down their apartments due to not understanding basic fire safety.
But I thought those were vagina candles and now I don’t know what’s going on anymore.
Hot wax and vaginas is a totally different topic.
What?
“In the past decades French and German media have become very Americanized, far more in sync with the globalist monoagenda.”
No doubt. But there’s still a certain… shall we say bigotry (yes, let’s, if only because it’ll annoy them) about the automatic assumption that America’s internal problems matter and, more to the point, are even translatable to the rest of the world.

You missed a trick. This was in the replies to one of those tweets:

Except that in this case it is an organization in which all work is unpaid and done by volunteers. The current, increasing interest in politics is strangely at odds with the organization’s original, anarchic nature.
“This queerphobic bulls**t in 2021 is unacceptable. I’m speechless.'”
There are so many completely false claims of oppression of Muslims, yet here is a genuine one where a person (not going to argue with that person’s own narcissistic “gender fluidity” here) demands a Muslim does not follow her sincerely held beliefs for no sound reason and is not being condemned because that person pretends to be special.
Surely there are other salons? Probably even speciality ones. Yet you have to bully a devout beautician and her employer.
Ever since the “bake my cake or else” rainbow fascists started bullying Christians, people have been asking rhetorically why those bullies don’t harass Muslim bakers and others. I look forward to reading about the next chapter in this artificially created drama.
While searching the archives for something else, I ran across this post about radical feminist “performance art”.
Commenter Mike asked, “Do they actually think the bollocks they say relates to anything they’re doing?”
Was it a macro-aggression to describe radical feminist antics as “bollocks”? I wouldn’t want to be contacted by the British police for my comments here. 😉

I think you just described 95% of the past 10 years.
I think you just described 95% of the past 10 years.
Remember the appearance in the 1990’s of the term astroturf to describe fake grass roots activism?
Remember those “Black Hammer” ninnyhammers who were going to make New Wakanda ?
Oopsie.

In other words, a professional liar.

That or just a loon:
White supremacy has more uses than duct tape !
Black supremacy, or more moderately, superiority, does not require a black person to perpetuate it. Many, many white women whom I know and (previously) had some degree of respect for are proof of that. Not to mention a few white men whom I have known under similar situations. And a few of the latter being the (supposedly) alpha-male type. At least as they were/ are perceived by the greater so. By myself, not so much.
“By the greater society..” Not sure how that got cut off.
That or just a loon
Or someone who has been convinced that The Cause is just and urgent and who is also unable to extrapolate or project as to the implications and inevitable abuses that would result from “fixing the problem”.
(From https://lessonsfromthecrisis.substack.com/p/the-noble-lie-on-masks-probably-wasnt – “…it also illustrates a key weakness of groupthink among expert views- once something becomes the “institutional opinion” it automatically gets endorsement from every other major institution similar to the way an AAA rating was rebroadcast through the financial system in 2008. You think you’re getting a diversity of viewpoints which are coalescing around the truth, but in reality many institutions are just repeater stations who accept the incoming opinion unquestioningly and then derive all their other positions from there.”)

Every now and then I see an article about someone attempting with great difficulty to trace the origin of some some bit of universally accepted but erroneous scientific or medical knowledge: Every paper and textbook repeats the number or fact, but either does not cite a source or only cites another secondary source.
