Yeah, it’s called weather.
Oh, you’d think if we stopped giving them food/shelter/medical care/dismiss any arrests&criminal activity (ask me about Shelter Court)and cash they’d just stay for the weather?
Pfffft.
So I remain quite correct in reminding that the majority issue is the weather
“Deluded” is not spelled, “correct”, and you might find this amazing, but you cannot reduce an entire state’s “weather” to that of one cherry picked city.
The average summer highs in Fresno are in the high 90s, pushing 100. In Barstow, over 100, (even Chino gets into the 90s). Both are slightly higher than Amarillo. Meanwhile in Juneau, the average yearly high is nearly the same as San Fransisco, and the only real difference is the winter lows. Meanwhile in Houston, the average lows are about the same as Los Angeles, and the average summer high only about 10 degrees hotter.
When one actually looks at climate records, it is obvious that “weather”, as opposed to handouts and flaming leftist policies, is a minor factor. You need to get out of your warren and try traveling about your state, once you leave San Fransisco, you won’t even need a map to avoid human waste and discarded drug needles (Needles, CA – average July high, 108.8F).

Hmmm. You’re going to have to explain whom it is you’re referring to when you state random California left-wing bishop of the Catholic church.
It the meantime, regarding Bishop Swing, William Edwin Swing is a retired bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States.
Yes Hal. My mistake. That totally refutes my point. Because left-wing Episcopalians are so thick in north Georgia as well. Because Catholic vs. Episcopalian was intinsic to my point. I have on a few occasions stumbled over references to Episcopalians and Catholic references, not that I don’t understand the theological differences. Or perhaps I should say hypothetical theological differences. I’m still pretty damn good at spotting an argumentative jackass, however.
Sing us a song Jane, the one about San Bernardino.

Uh huh. As you point out yourself, what came first, the weather or some program?
“Deluded” is not spelled, “correct”,
Quite so. Correct, even.
Now, in a discussion of entire states, as specified, such as the state of California, the state of Texas, the state of Alaska, an example of deluded would be to claim to . . . reduce an entire state’s “weather” to that of one cherry picked city., such as, Fresno, Barstow, Juneau . . .
None of those cities are a state.
You need to get out of your warren and try traveling about your state, even visiting parts of the country these states are in might be educational.
Because left-wing Episcopalians are so thick in north Georgia as well.
Yes, yes, we’re all very happy that instead of discussing, you would rather argue about actual religious practice vs what the right wing does.
Of course it would help you to remember that by definition and more so by practice, Bishop Swing and his associates are conservative, rather than left wing. By contrast, left wing is all about identity: white supremacist identity, socialist identity, polka-dotted identity, Etc.
But getting back to the actual discussion regarding those who are doing what is presumably quite admirable genuinely religious work on the ground in Georgia vs those who demand a game of faith based faith based Dungeons and Deacons, the current question remains to ask who are actually doing that work on the ground?
Is it the right wing Christians rolling their D12s, or is it the religious and therefore conservative Christians and and that conservative practice of You will do what you and all of the rest of us need to have done, or you will refrain from doing when something needs to be left alone, because what you believe in or what mere label you get identified as remains irrelevant.
You do your party piece, Joan, and we’ll follow along.

…an example of deluded would be to claim to…reduce an entire state’s “weather” to that of one cherry picked city…
Indeed, which, as everyone can see (though you fail to remember) is precisely what you did in your original fallacious statement wherein you only gave one data point, specifically LA. However, pointing out several cities with harsher climates than LA (which you did not do) gives a better picture of an entire state, especially one such as California in which the, “…climate ranges from polar to subtropical”.
Other states with high welfare rates, other than the equally leftist policy ridden Oregon and Washington, include Michigan and Maine, both of which are famous for their sunny, palm lined beaches, veritable Polynesian winters, and not at all for their give-away-the-store California style social programs.
Let me remind you, California is not just everything between San Diego and Marin county, and west of I-5, (just the worst part of it).
. . . precisely what you did in your original fallacious statement wherein you only gave one data point, specifically LA. . . .
Hmmmm??? Well, no, so let us further remind you that the focus was and is the state which, again is something other than some assortment of cities—Albeit I’ll grant that L.A. tends to get described as an assortmebnt of cities, but that’s a different discusion.

a) Flooding is frequently something homeless look for in climactic conditions – you are not exactly helping your case.
b) These are not Noachian times, Hal, at no time has all of California been flooding, once again, you are not making your case.
Oh, and in case you missed it, Darleen didn’t comment on other states.
Actually you did by claiming the reason why California has a disproportionate number of welfare cases because of the weather, which means you mistakenly think they chose California over all other states for that reason over all others. Someday your fog may lift.
Hal, Hal, it is OK for you to admit you are wrong and hopelessly confused, by now you should have it down to an art form.
Darleen’s statement was Re: there is a reason why California has . . . Darleen did not state . . . Los Angeles, or the narrow strip of the state that has mild weather most of the year.
She did not need to be that pedantic: First, everyone who is familiar with the problem knows that the moochers are concentrated in certain areas. Second, the homeless statistics are usually reported on a state-by-state basis.
Darleen didn’t comment on other states. She commented on . . . see if you can guess it . . . . California
Your snark would be more effective it were less pedantically dishonest.
I see, that explains why Texas and Alaska are overrun with welfare recipients and homeless
Heh. Indeed. The mild weather is indeed attractive, especially for bums who have no homes, but the crucial factors are the generous welfare programs and the tolerance of antisocial behavior.
And so Hal has deftly distracted us from the original points: (1) generous government entitlement programs breed dependency and various social pathologies, and (2) Christians, including conservative or “right wing” Christians are not callous or ungenerous to the needy.
Hal, at no time has all of California been flooding, once again, you are not making your case
Ironically, California has in recent years been rather short of rain. This year is a bit of a change–but as you say nothing Noachian.
I, for one, am quite conservative, as opposed to left or right wing
What kind of conservative are you, that you are so resistant when people point out how bad government policies in California led to the current situation?
And how do you distinguish between conservative and right wing? Here in America those who hate conservatives use the terms interchangeably.
One can wonder what your criteria are. For instance, are the owners of Chick-Fil-A conservative or right-wing?
https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/294768/
The Ugly Coded Critique of Chick-Fil-A’s Christianity: The fast-food chain’s “infiltration” of New York City ignores the truth about religion in America. It also reveals an ugly narrow-mindedness.

Just for reference, I’m done with this nonsense. The disingenuous arguments and such. I’m generally not one to use the term “troll” as it is used way too frequently to dismiss differing points of view. But I’m done with this one. Kinda creeped me out anyway when he made a point a few weeks ago to let me know he had been investigating who I am. Not sure if that was meant to be some kind of a threat but the likes of people such as this clown don’t scare me.

Apparently Google Advanced Search doesn’t dig into Typepad comments like it does with WordPress so not easy to find. It was sometime during the last halstorm or maybe the one before. Sometime earlier this year. He complemented me on my glasses and suggested I’d be an asset to his volleyball team (I’m fairly tall). I remember replying “Thanks. They’re Brooks Brothers” in regard to the glasses. It was kinda weird. Wasn’t really sure what the point of it was, nor what I said that inspired the effort. Not that I go to great efforts to conceal my brucewayneish identity, just enough to obscure it from HR types. Not that even that really matters much to me. I might dig around at lunch to day if it occurs to me what the subject matter of David’s post was at that time.
What kind of conservative are you…
PST, I believe he claims to hail from the Bay area where Pelosi is a “centrist” and Feinstein not left enough, so that would explain a lot, but you nailed it with “pedantically dishonest”.
WTP, I wouldn’t want to put you to any trouble.
he claims to hail from the Bay area
For some reason I had gotten the impression that he was from the UK. Maybe I read carelessly or maybe someone else said something implying that which he failed to correct.
Hal is the resident blog Humpty Dumpty. He demands to define any and all words, then defeats arguments based on failure to conform to his definitions. The question is, who is to be master, apparently. Bizarre definitions repeated many times include ones for “conservative”, “liberal”, “religious”, and “faith”, just off the top of my head.
For some reason I had gotten the impression that he was from the UK
The ceaseless pretense and adoption of things like “Ehn?” to feign shock will do that. One doesn’t have to be in the UK to engage as many untrue Scotsmen as he does, though.
I believe he claims to hail from the Bay area where Pelosi is a “centrist” and Feinstein not left enough
The San Francisco Bay environs, where the Overton Window has shifted so far to the left that Saul Alinsky, Antonio Gramsci, and even Ché Guevara are considered “centrist”.
‘morning, all—Yes, U.S. West coast over here . . . .
Sooo, I dunno if I’d say I’m honored at the attention, but then I haven’t stated anything the least bit unusual or innovative, I have stated nothing to make a fuss over. At all times I’m just noting what always has been and remains . . .
A basic observation would be that fact that there does appear to be two different political groupings.
One group consists of those frantically holding that parochial—secular sense—view that there can only be the left wing OR the right wing, which is that rather limited view from a right/left pole that was noted a while back.
The rest of us are those who are aware that political reality consists of three groupings: There are those of us who are centered and in balance and focusing on getting the job done—whatever that job of the moment, so that all of us do best benefit as best as can be done, and then the details of the preferences and actions of individuals will remain the choice of each such individual, whatever the issue. And then those other two groupings are those mere left and right wing extremes that bookend the effective group and merely yammer the right and left wing agendas.
—And then as far as labeling, ehn, noting that the effective are called conservative comes easily, especially given that recurring instance where the right wing liberal does not reason, does not calculate, does not conserve, and thus the right wing is not and will never be known as conservative. In the UK, of course, it gets even easier. There is that ineffectual right wing that screams about more or less anyone who doesn’t look like ’em. There is that ineffectual left wing that screams about more or less anyone who doesn’t sound like ’em. And, in between both, leading everyone, and recurringly even being the national government, there are the conservatives who are—for the benefit of those missing the point—called the Conservatives.
In the US, the pattern has even been the same, also as noted here awhile back.
Sooooo, where were we . . . .
So yes, as noted, Darleen stated California . . . and if you demand that all such instances must have some area by area differentiation, well, take it up with her.
—I’m not her, btw.
How to distinguish has always been stated, and rather consistently so, and here repeated again. And then for the right wing and left wing denials that the conservative is bookended by both, that would be further examples of that right pole/left pole behavior. . . . akin to someone standing at the north pole, where all directions are south.
?????!?!?!?!? Indeed. Being facetious can be an art, and then even so; You have got to be kidding. On all levels.
Finding the actual instance of what WTP is trying to allege is one of those effortless exercises for the reader—
search Typepad for volleyball, exactly as WTP points out, and then spot the glasses reference, as WTP also points out—
. . . but then when you do see that page, it does show the actual occurrence—which also actually might be the embarrassing point there . . .
First, WTP himself comments on glasses, and then he comments on glasses again. And his statement there includes This insistence that just because . . .
Given that he is asking for more exposition of basic political reality, further down the page I do provide that, and there particularly remind that the conservative is bookended by the mere right and left wings.
WTP may not have been planning to be an MC or straight man, or may have, he’ll have to state. At that point he does reply with . . . I just proved your point by exposing my ideological blindspots. Really. Don’t want to cause a fuss.
In turn, to thank him, I later note Nice glasses, btw. And yes, should we wind up in the same volleyball league, you are definitely going to be in the front row on my team. . . . . After all, WTP did indeed, himself comment on glasses.
. . . . . I have no idea who WTP is, aside from what’s been shown here over time . . . and even of that I’d prolly have to do some combing through the postings to get any more an idea—not my interest. In this discussion of conservative vs right/left, he’s particularly referenced North Georgia, but for all anyone knows from that, he might have read something or wandered through on a vacation.
YeahRight. Do show us any unusual or unexplained definitions. Go right ahead, knock yourself out. Yes, you will have to hope that everyone ignores all the instances where I do cite reality with actual examples.
Bizarre definitions repeated many times include ones for “conservative”, “liberal”, “religious”, and “faith”, just off the top of my head.
Why thank you, I hadn’t been looking for another example of right/left pole dancing but I’m sure David can slip you a couple of quid for your efforts . . .
Oh, and of volleyball??
As I Recall—it’s been rather a few years—A volleyball team can tend to be set up in two or three rows. The front row blocks incoming shots over the net, or at least tries to. A reason for that tries is what the second row can do on occasions. Someone in the first row will get the ball and then just stand there and hold it up in the air, particularly near and just above the top of the net. At that point, that player isn’t being a display, the player is acting as a golf tee. At that point someone from the middle row will pop up and, ideally, absolutely hammer the ball just over the net and straight down into the opposition sand, with no way for the opposing team to block the shot.
Once again, y’all have been absolutely first rate volleyball players on my team and once again the conversational and conservative ball has utterly plowed into the sand of the mere right and left with no way for them to block that shot.
—And denial doesn’t count, in case anyone wants to play Cleopatra on a barge. First off, to get the denial to have any traction, you would have to start by begging David to delete chunks of his blog. I expect he has far better things to do, and one excellent reason for him to leave all as is is his ability to thus be the local instance of The internet never forgets.
As I stated back when, And yes, should we wind up in the same volleyball league, you are definitely going to be in the front row on my team.
Again.
You’re very deft at the neat trick of combining glibness and logorrhea, I’ll give you that.
The definition of “conservative” as preserving and perfecting the status quo is indeed a novel one. It’s one you consider well argued, but it is enough of a variance from any of several normal usages that your repeated insistence on it as tautology to pick at the definitions of others – taking “conservative” to be good by axiom – is enough of a rhetorical monkeyshine that it’s highly irritating. That’s just one example. As is your insistence – just now! – that any argument with a linear taxonomy with conservative in the middle is strict adherence to a left/right axiom. That is utterly false. You defined the terms, took issue with any variance in adherence, and claimed that variance to be fault in another’s argument, EXACTLY AS I HAD STATED.
You’re an embarrassment.
In general, I have found that anything Hal writes is not worth my time reading.
I merely assume that he donates to our host; in such a case, he provides more value here than me.
but it is enough of a variance from any of several normal usages that your repeated insistence on it as tautology to pick at the definitions of others…is enough of a rhetorical monkeyshine that it’s highly irritating
Marxists have a long history of doing this: Redefine words to suit their purposes and then insist that their arbitrary changes are eternal truth and not subject to dispute.
It’s a pity that Hal is such a shameless liar; there might be a good brain somewhere inside that skull.
Re: Hal’s disingenuousness:
Jordan Peterson:
“Tell the truth, or at least don’t lie…Telling the truth is hard, because you have to know the truth, and that’s hard. But you can know when you’re lying.” And when you lie you not only harm others, you harm yourself.
You’re very . . . harm yourself.
Heh!!!
Of course, if y’all actually wanted any mileage, you’d try something other than But, but, but, but, nooooo, noooo, noooooooooo, nooooooo . . . !
