Friday Ephemera
Sshhh. This hummingbird is sleeping. // Sonic booms and bending light. Wait for the ripples near the end. // I’m sure that isn’t really the title of the book. // The biodiversity of belly buttons. // The photography of Jay Mark Johnson. (h/t, Dr Dawg) // Collectors and their collections. // At last, a machine that will sort your Skittles by colour. // The rigours of academia. // Origami chair. // Idleness defined. // Edible gum party python. // Panoramic dentistry. // Panoramic washing machine. // Vibrative virtual keyboard. // Tiny violins for when you’re really, really sad. // “This is a visualization of over 100,000 nearby stars.” // The infinite jukebox.
That hummingbird vid would have been the cutest thing I’ve seen all week, but sadly, in the right hand side bar, the ‘related vids’ included one entitled ‘Sand Spider Hiding (Sicarius terrosus)’.
Yes. Very much terrosus in this household!
Infinite ‘Gangnam Style’. My wife will love it.
P.S. If you don’t hear from me I’ll probably be in hospital…
rjmadden,
“My wife will love it.”
It’s not a toy, you know. It’s a terrifying psychological weapon. To check the thing worked I endured twenty minutes of infinite Rick Astley. It must have rendered me senseless because I went back for more and tried some infinite Birdhouse in Your Soul by infinite They Might Be Giants.
Then the madness took me.
Here’s one.
Much enjoying listening to Don’t Stop on the infinite jukebox. It gets excited by the whole “Don’t Stop” lyric and won’t stop repeating it, which is either ironic or not. I can’t remember which.
The infinite Batman theme is a little demented too, especially if you start using the keys to play with the edits.
I don’t know what prompted me to look this up but now that I know, I have an unexplainable urge to share…The terminal velocity of a falling cat is 60 MPH…or 100 KPH under y’alls communist system.
In a 1987 study, published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, of 132 cats that were brought into the New York Animal Medical Center after having fallen from buildings, it was found that the injuries per cat increased depending on the height fallen up to seven stories but decreased above seven stories

Another BBC environmentalism scandal.
being the objective impartial (ho ho) BBC that we are, there is an expectation in some quarters that we will every now and then let them say something.

Time to cut the liars’ public funding.
Mags,
“…being the objective impartial (ho ho) BBC that we are, there is an expectation in some quarters that we will every now and then let them say something.”
Being better than us and so well-meaning, they’re allowed to lie. I’m sure that’s how it works. In their minds, at least.
I notice this meeting of ‘impartial’ climate ‘specialists’ was attended by… the BBC’s Head of Comedy. And one of the so-called ‘specialists’ was Andrew Simms of the New Economics Foundation. That’s these people. The ones who want to make us “better citizens” by making us poorer and taking away the “dispensable accoutrements of middle-class life,” including “cars, holidays, electronic equipment and multiple items of clothing.”
So. Some comedy, certainly.
The ones who want to make us “better citizens” by making us poorer and taking away the “dispensable accoutrements of middle-class life,” including “cars, holidays, electronic equipment and multiple items of clothing.”
And our taxes are funding them both.
